My name’s Lizzy. I know there are a lot of blogs already out there with help for intrusive thoughts, but I wanted to make my own since lately I've been struggling very badly with them. (And no, I don't mean thoughts related to things like wanting to cut your hair; those would be known as impulsive thoughts. I mean intrusive thoughts that are often violent, gory, creepy, and/or go against your moral standings. So, thoughts that you do not want, enjoy, or control).
Anyway, on here I'll be posting resources, advice, reminders, and other such things! Please keep in mind the following!

The only thing I can provide is validation and encouragement that you're not alone! (My own intrusive thoughts run the full gamut, pretty much. If you've thought it, I've probably thought something very similar).

Finch: mental health app where you care for a little bird! Offers many features such as focus timers, rant zones, nature sounds, fun questions, and more! You can even make friends on it and send them encouragement :) (my friend code)
Adorable Home: a precious game in which you have a tiny spouse, cats, and a little house you can decorate! You can check in and enjoy peaceful music, different scenes, and upgrades through collecting tiny hearts you earn through easy tasks! A truly adorable and relaxing game!
Seashine: a game set underwater in which you guide a tiny luminescent jellyfish through the abyss. Beautiful, relaxing music and distant whale noises; some scary enemies, so if you have thalassophobia this might not be the one for you. Very calming otherwise though, and the creator is coming out with an enemy-free version soon in which you can just float around to the music!
Cat Snack Bar: an adorable app where you operate different business venues with the help of chubby, adorable cats! You check in periodically to collect money and update your venue, but otherwise it doesn't require much brain power. A very cute game to help you relax!
Webtoon: a comic app that allows you to browse thousands of creative and often relaxing webcomics!
1010!: a fun little game where you match up blocks. Fairly simple and satisfying, and you can update your backgrounds to fun designs!
Papa's Cupcakeria: a relaxing and satisfying game where you make cupcakes! And of course there’s a whole series of games in the Papa Louie universe to choose from that are fun and calming :)
Libby: library app that lets you sign in with however many library cards you possess and place holds on/check out books or audiobooks that you can then read in the app; the books are automatically returned for you on their due date, so you never have to worry about them being

You have been battling these issues for so long, give yourself some credit for how much you overcame. For how much you fight. For how much you try. For the time you take to care for your health.
a lot of times a post will be like "youre not bad for having violent intrusive thoughts" and then someone in the notes will inevitably be like "yeah its only bad if you act on them" and like bro i cannot tell you how fucking unhelpful and misguided that statement is in this context.
like, yes, having negative impulses that you dont act on doenst make you a bad person, but intrusive thoughts are not impulses. the whole thing with violent intrusive thoughts (and intrusive thoughts in general) in OCD is that the person experiencing them very much Does Not Want to act on them, yet is terrified they'll "lose control" and act on them regardless of how much they don't want to.
treating these thoughts as if theyre actually something a person could potentially "give in to" and act out is fundamentally misunderstanding what intrusive thoughts are, and also plays into the very fear that a lot of people's thoughts are based on.

That's not even.. what's going on (re the last tweet). People with ocd aren't contemplating sexually abusing kids, they're afraid they might sexually harm a child by mistake, or be a pedophile without realising, or any number of similar anxieties, but the point is that it becomes an anxious fixation because the person finds it so repellant. It's such an incredibly common ocd symptom, but most people are understandably terrified to talk about it
I remember reading a study where a therapist was helping people with similar anxieties - though not involving children - work through them. One client said she was afraid she was going to murder the therapist, not that she wanted to but that she'd somehow lose control of herself or an accident would happen. The solution? The therapist brought a kitchen knife to an appointment (with the patients consent), handed it to her and basically said "okay, what now?" Turns out nothing now, nothing happened, and it helped the client deal with the phobia
Obviously that approach isn't workable with something like pedophilia/csa anxiety but I think it highlights the true nature of what the anxiety actually is. It's irrational anxiety that comes from a deep fear and disgust of csa, not a desire to perpetrate it
just a gentle reminder, even if you're feeling good right now it doesn't mean you're not struggling. being happy does not automatically mean things aren't hard, don't let anyone tell you otherwise <33333
