Eloise was born last in a well off family. She and her brother Edmund were the babies of the Fergusons. As the youngest, she didn't have as many expectations or responsibilities as the rest of her siblings. So long as she didn't try to soil their reputation or get into too much trouble, she was given a decent amount of freedom. With the rest of her family, she moved to Aurora Bay when she was just a kid and that is where she stayed until she decided to attend college overseas.
To say that Eloise had no ambitions growing up wouldn't be true, she did figure that she would make something of herself. But freshly out of college, she found herself infatuated with a man who was fifteen years her senior and he seemed to like her just the same. He was going through a nasty divorce at the time and she found herself being the perfect replacement for the soon to be ex wife of his.
She decided to stay in the UK and get married to the man as soon as she could. He also came from a wealthy family and they had a good reputation among those in their status. Combining the two families seemed like a perfect idea and her father approved of the relationship. For the next several years it seemed like she was living an idealistic life. She even attempted to be a good step mom to his children, though some of them were already tweens and they didn't really respect her.
It wasn't long before cracks started to form. He didn't expect her to get a job, he was content with her being a stay at home mom. But he did expect her to fulfill the mom part and wanted his legacy to grow with children of their own. Eloise looked forward to motherhood but it didn't come as quickly as she had hoped it would. It took them nearly a year before they conceived and the pregnancy resulted in a miscarriage. This would happen once more before Eloise stopped seeing a plus sign on any test.
Eloise was considering IVF and other options when she got the devastating news that her husband not only wanted a divorce, but had been seeing another woman on the side. Worse yet, that woman was pregnant and he wanted the divorce to be discrete and quick so that he could marry her. He wanted to paint the picture that their relationship had been over for awhile now and that he had quietly moved on other someone else. He was even willing to pay Eloise a pretty sum to go along with his little fantasy.
Heartbroken and defeated, she felt like she had no choice but to comply. She couldn't give him the one thing he asked of her (a baby) and he found someone else who could. Too embarrassed to stick around, she took the money that her husband gave her to begin the divorce process and left for Aurora Bay. It may have been her home when she was a teenager, but she hadn't been back for many years and hoped to start anew.
Shortly after her arrival though she found herself bedridden and sick. Ruling out the flu and jet lag, she finally broke down and decided to take a test upon her doctors suggestion. Eloise didn't know what she wanted. She had seen a positive pregnancy test before and it always ended poorly for her. Yet she found herself kind of excited when the test came back positive. But she also was angry and bitter because she couldn't share it with the father and she had a feeling that if she did, he would tell her to get an abortion or bring up miscarriage. For all the time she was trying to get pregnant, it was always for him but now she wanted the baby and didn't want him to even know about it.
Now she is trying to settle in Aurora Bay and so far the pregnancy has gone longer than her previous ones. Yet she hasn't told her brother or her family yet. They don't even know that she is getting a divorce. But she won't be able to keep it all a secret for long. She's going to start showing and her husband has been hounding her to finalize the divorce and calling her out for taking money without following through with their agreement. But officially divorcing him will mean that the baby won't have rights to anything.
