but can we TALK about the racialized subtext of "his wife has filled his house with chintz" linking together femininity, indian export goods, commercialism, and superficiality vs "to keep it real I fuck him on the floor" linking together masculinity, AAVE, authenticity, sexuality, and vulgarity? if our aim as critics of poetry is to reevaluate this text and arrive at a feminist interpretation then we must also consider the poem's vexed relationship to race so as to not be anti-black in our criticism of the piece's presentation of masculinized sexuality nor uncritically reproduce and elevate its image of orientalized femininity.
also, from looking at the original post (non-explicit gay sex photo but still a gay sex photo so you've been warned): there isn't even any chintz in the photo. the design elements in the room all look broadly western european with the exception of a tall ceramic vessel that may be decorated with a reproduction of a chinese ink painting. chintz is an indian textile pattern, you'll see it on dresses, bedspreads, wallpaper, tapestries, upholstery, etc., but nothing like that is in the image. to imply that the house's interior design is frivolous, artificial, and unusable, the poem utilizes "chintz" despite the obvious lack of chintz because "chintz," as a popular asian export good that went on to be imitated by european manufacturers, is considered kitsch, cheap, and womanly. and, though the angle partially obscures them, the two men in the photo both appear to be white, so the poem uses the AAVE phrase "keep it real" despite the lack of black people to invoke the perception of AAVE as raw, crass, and primal. in both cases, the racialized language is being ascribed to european/white subjects to impart the white subjects with different moral values.
i won't pretend i've never been guilty of shopping for clothes at the soup store, but sometimes i see people criticizing media for not delivering an experience it was never intended to deliver and just get a little bewildered by it. just saw a very sincere post from someone critiquing splatoon's narrative writing for being "stunted and juvenile." well yes. it's side content in an all-ages pvp shooter. it's not even that i disagree with the critiques being made in the post it's that i just can't understand why they are being framed as if character-forward or complex narrative writing is something it is natural to expect from the splatoon franchise for some reason.
I love this blog so much for basically being an enormous library of interior background references but MAN. There is something Vile and Poetic about that saying being painted on the wall of one of the bleakest-looking school hallways I've seen in a long time. It's like that poem about the stars being painted over in landlord white. Incredible.
I work with kids and sometimes we have to do safety lessons with them about like, not telling strangers on the internet your home address or something. And sometimes the kids wont understand why, so you have to impart upon them that, well, some adults want to hurt children. And thats kind of difficult to do, because you have to beat around the bush, both because you dont want to scare them (while still making them understand how serious it is) and because you might lose your job if you explain it too straight forward.
Luckily, for some reason, the villain of one of the most popular franchises with children for the last 10 years happens to be a serial child murderer. So when a kid asks why they shouldnt trust strangers, instead of hand wringing and humhawing my answer out, I can just say "we dont always know when a strange adult has good intentions with children, or when they are William Afton."

Regardless of how wronged and hurt you are, regardless how much of a horrible piece of shit the other person is being, you still should not say bigoted things about them.
Bigotry is not a more advanced degree of insults that stings more, it's a reinforcement of the framework where certain marginalized traits are inferior. This is not about you and that person. This is about the society you live in.

hi 👋 you can call me kennedy mclune (it's more or less a pen name). i'm a comic artist/writer with an overarching project about colourful people that's apparently so interesting to me, i've been working on it for practically 9 years straight (haha oh no!!)
what you need to know is that there's 4 storylines (collectively "the magnicanon"), but most of them are "dormant" except for one, which i call "Luna Sloth". the main character is a weird dejected gay guitarist with moth wings (just roll with it). this account is used as an archive for both that and extremely occasional other non-fandom doodles of mine
the best way i can describe luna sloth is that it's a young-adult comedy comic about the aforementioned gay moth (emmy) and her psychic damage, her mysteriously-forgettable scarf-wearing multiinstrumentalist best friend (indie), his aloof goth college classmate with unusually good eyes (iris), and the former-cheesy-sitcom actor they run into at a supermarket (mary) who's just kind of unhinged and annoying in 50 different ways (said lovingly).
there is Romance In It but not as the entire focus, and i like to think it's doing something interesting with the topic, especially since there's a whole plot where an aroace character tries to deal with having a relationship (about as successful as you're imagining). there also may be a yuri eventually but shh. and a big plot about mary's backstory on tv where symbolic ghost hallucinations and hand injuries are involved
between this and the fact i'm meticulously putting the plot together behind the scenes before "officially" drawing it, i like to think you'll be pleasantly surprised by the amount of thought being put into the thing... just give me time to cook everyone... 🙏

it does actually bother me whenever it's like... a bunch of guys and 1 girl. like the smurfs. that's weird. the minions are also weird for it being all guys. stop doing this

the curtains were blue, which may or may not symbolise the main character's loss and depression. but even if it wasn't intended, you make the subconscious connection either way, and it explains why so many people take the story as being so resonant/well done
it's actually so crazy how much the simpsons would fucking suck if it didn't have any of the simpsons characters. just a bunch of shots of empty houses and streets for half an hour while nothing happens. that would be so badddd lol
yeah that tends to happen when you remove characters from media. without characters its all just background. i guess movies set in scenic locations would still land as kinda nature docs but even then

people can have whatever opinions they want re: the japaneseyness of dr chapter 5 being out of place or not, but in doing so i would just humbly ask them to consider 1 thing. toby fox is an obvious omegaweeb who deliberately makes things for his japanese audience as well as the english one (simultaneous language releases and all)
there's a chance chapter 5 was especially leaning into this, so in order to critique it accurately (imo), you'd probably need to get in their head and learn whether the sudden fantastical japanese stuff everywhere seems equally out of place to them as it does to you. i could point to flowery being a shitass anime boy as an example (or the touhou influence?), but i can do you one better: the mew mew fight's dating segments are basically a tokimeki memorial parody, aka a game that never officially released in english
(and probably even more things i wouldn't know)
