"My 84 year old Navajo grandmother gave me one of her bracelets (that my silversmith grandfather made for her in the 50s) after seeing me as myself for the first time. It was one of the pinnacle moments of my transition and definitely made me cry.

i came out to my grandma at the beginning of the year over the phone. She really didn't (and I knew) know what transgender was or anything but this past weekend, we were able to see each other in person for the first time since i started my transition. For being 84 years old, the chat went as great as it could have gone! She caught me as I was leaving and she gave me a silver bracelet with turquoise and coral stones. She told me that this style is what Navajo women wear.

"Where did those forty years go to … my one outstanding memory of Elio was when a fried and myself were showing two lovely JPS girls around the pits and next door were Lotus.

Elio was outside just prior to to a practice session starting.

Obviously gathering his thoughts when one of the girls asked if I would ask Elio for a photograph with her and her friend.

I tried to explain that now was not really the right moment, but suddenly she called out to a chap behind us … please can you take our picture!

Well “low & behold” an extremely well known Scottish accent replied yes and asked for me to pass over my camera.

Below is the result … not just a cracking photograph of Elio, but a true representation of who he was and how missed he is … certainly one of life’s nicest drivers … dare I say along with Gunner, also taken far too soon … Sad days!"

At Long Beach, Ferrari Clay Regazonni took pole position with Tyrrell's Patrick Depailler second, forcing James Hunt and Niki Lauda onto the second row. The top four maintained their positions at the start, and almost immediately, Regazzoni began to pull away. Hunt now tried to pass Depailler for second; they collided; Hunt was forced to retire, and Depailler went wide, allowing Lauda to sail through to second place. Depailler kept third position until a spin dropped him well down the order to seventh, but he charged back up in third after Tom Pryce's Shadow, and Jody Scheckter in the second Tyrrell retired after driveshaft and suspension failures, respectively. Regazzoni went on to take a dominant victory, with Lauda completing the Ferrari 1–2, and Depailler third.
