“heeseung! what are you doing here!” you exclaim, immediately throwing your arms around him, heeseung instantly wrapping his hands around your waist. you bring your face back to get a good look at him and before heeseung could reply, the two of you suddenly hear your dad

“oh good heeseung you’re here, come help me lift up the wood will you?” a pause. you slowly turn to look back at him, “you’re here to see my dad?…” panicked, heeseung defends himself “no! of course i also came here to see you! i just— your dad asked me for help yesterday and i forgot you said you were coming the weekend and i didn’t think it was a big deal so-“

“so? you didn’t come to see me! you came for my dad! and you didn’t even tell me?” you question “no baby i’m just trying to help your dad you know how much he needs this, who else is going to help him, and this might be my chance to get along with your dad!” heeseung starts to ramble again and your eyes soften. as much as you want to be mad at him right now, you can’t help but find it cute that he wants to make an effort with your father, especially since your father always works by himself on his random projects and he needs all the help he can get sometimes.

“okay that’s fine, i’ll let this slide since i missed you anyway” you smile and lean in to kiss him before, “heeseung! come help real quick!” you both hear your dad from outside, quickly moving your faces away from each other. heeseung gives you a quick peck on the cheek before leaving to help with whatever your dad wants.

you sigh as you watch him leave and began putting on your shoes so you can watch the both of them work outside.

ii.

the second time heeseung was involved with your family, he wasn’t even in your family home.

today you felt awfully tired and your coworkers weren’t helping at all. you just wanted to go home for the day and relax in heeseungs arms in the comfort of your shared apartment—with the occasional ranting on the side. one of the few perks that came with living with heeseung, a fairly new thing in your relationship.

however, once you got home you were greeted with unusual silence. usually heeseung would be there greeting you just at the sound of the door unlocking.

he must be playing games with the boys, you thought, well you were semi-right.

“baby?” you shout. silence. “hee?” silence. it’s not until you walk towards your shared bedroom that you hear the screams and shouts from heeseung and slightly from his headphones.

“heal me heal me! hurry!” you hear heeseung shout as you open the door. he doesn’t turn when you open it, too immersed in his game with whoever he’s playing with. usually you’ll hear the slight voices of jake and maybe even sunghoon but this time the voice is different, but slightly familiar. as you get closer to heeseungs screen, you get a glimpse of who he’s talking too and to your surprise, you see your own brothers gamer tag light up, identifying that he was the one talking.

with your sudden presence, heeseung quickly turns around but still facing the screen.

“hey baby, how long have you’ve been ho- he’s on me! get him!” he suddenly shouts mid-sentence

“um just right now.. are you playing with my brother?” you ask, a bit shocked at how he got in contact with him and when did they become so close?

“oh yeah, he texted me a few hours ago to hop on — hold on, hey man this is the last round, y/n just got home okay?” he tells your brother and you hear shouts coming from heeseung’s headphones at the mention of your name quickly followed by heeseung apologizing and promising he’ll be back on tomorrow when he’s free. you just let heeseung play as you do your own thing while you wait.

forty minutes later and you are so sure that wasn’t the last round. you’re cozied up on the couch eating some ramen with heeseung chopsticks left neatly on side waiting to be used. you watch tv as the situation hits you, since when did heeseung and your brother start playing games with each other? and why do you feel kinda jealous that heeseung, your own longtime boyfriend, pushed you aside just to play with him? with the day you’ve had you start to feel a bit angry.

finally you see heeseung come out of the room and make his way over to you. you began to speak, “hey traitor” heeseung quickly replies, “what, how am i the traitor what did i do?” he sits next to you, picking up his chopsticks left on the side for him. you slightly turn your body away from him, “since when did you and my brother get so close?”

heeseung leans in and takes a bite of the leftover ramen you made for the two of you to share, “remember that birthday your family had for your uncle? well when you left to talk to your cousins your brother started talking to me and we started talking about video games, and we actually play a lot of the same games.” you turn to look at him as he starts to rub your leg, an action he does to soothe you. he continues, “so…we exchanged numbers and i didn’t expect him to actually text me to play with him but today he did and your brother is a really good support. there was this one guy….”

you let heeseung ramble about the games he played with your brother and you can’t help but look at him with adoration. though you hate to admit it, you love the fact that your family is growing accustomed to him and it gives you hope for the future of you and heeseung.

“okay but im still mad at you for ignoring me when i got home, i had the worst day today” heeseung puts down the pot and attempts to get closer to you as he pulls you into his chest.

“i’m sorry, i would never push you aside like that again, you know i would do anything for you. tell me all about your day.”

iii.

a recent moment was when you had to cancel your own personal date just to go to a sudden family dinner with your whole family, even with some of your cousins.

at first you weren’t going to the dinner as it was short notice and you had already planned a date with heeseung that day. when telling heeseung you would think he would be on the same page as you. unfortunately, unsurprised at this point, heeseung tried persuading you to go.

“baby i know you don’t want to go because of our date, but your family rarely does events like this, it could be really important! we can just go to our date early and go later into the family dinner, it’ll be fine and work out perfectly!” heeseung explains while the both of you eat breakfast, the morning of said dinner.

“that is true…” you trail off “they only do surprise dinners like this when they share something important…” you began to pick at the fruit on your plate. heeseung continues “yes exactly, you would beat yourself up if you missed something important babe” you let out a groan in reply,

“ugh i hate how much you know me” “mmm you love it” heeseung replies while smiling knowing he successfully persuaded you.

deep down you were glad heeseung persuaded you, heeseung has no reason to go but he knows how much you value the fact he gets along with your family easily. your past relationships didn’t care about making an effort to your family and you never really saw a future ahead with them. with heeseung, it was different. if your family accepted him, the future for the two of you would be more transparent.

entering the restaurant you immediately see your family in the corner booth. as you motion to wave hi, you family instantly gets up to greet heeseung. the kids running towards him, your brother giving him a handshake, and your dad asking him if he wanted a drink.

“i could’ve sworn i was actually blood related to them” you whisper to your sister and she lets out a small chuckle in response, motioning you to take a seat. looking at heeseung you notice him bending down to talk to the kids, holding crayons and a kids menu that the kids probably forced him to hold to figure out some kind of puzzle in the kids menu.

at this moment you take a chance to really look at your boyfriend. to look at how your family interacts with him. when telling your parents you were moving out to live with heeseung they seemed opposed to it, they didn’t know heeseung enough to trust him to take care of you and since then heeseung has been making the effort to let them know that you were in good hands. looking at it now, you realize how much they really care for heeseung and treat him as their own. you really do appreciate heeseung for this even though you don’t show it much, this means a lot to you.

“stop bothering him and come over here!” your mom motions to your niece and nephew to go sit next to her, snapping you out of your thoughts. heeseung quickly takes his seat next to you, still holding the crayons and menu. he places the items down and wraps his arm around your waist. your sister giving you teasing eyes.

“okay now that we are all here together i would like to make an announcement.” your sister suddenly speaks up, “the reason why i planned this out tonight was because i wanted to share that im officially…getting married!” you sister cheers while holding up her dominant hand to show off her ring finger.

your family all erupts into cheers and you quickly get up to hug her, “this is really huge for you! i’m so happy!” the rest of your family gets up and shares their own congrats as you take back your original seat.

heeseung immediately wraps his arms around your waist and whispers in your ear, “now imagine if you missed this, i knew you would’ve regretted not going.” you scoff at his words and shove him off of you as he laughs and continues to hold on to you. during your guys interaction, you fail to realize that the focus is now on you two. your mom quickly speaks up,

“now when will we be hearing that announcement from you guys?” the table erupting into cheers and groans from you two. while the kids continue to push heeseung to do their puzzle again and play a round of tiktactoe on their kids menu.

iv.

the final moment that clicked for you was heeseung’s involvement with your sisters wedding.

as the date got closer heeseung notice how stress you were, balancing work while planning out a perfect wedding for your sister. in attempts to get you to relax— even for a little bit. heeseung decided to do a week worth of wedding work for you while you focus on other things. this meant heeseung had to do his own research.

heeseung began to ask your mom and your brother to help him rehearse names of distant relatives, memorizing details of your sister’s favorite flowers, and even going as far as asking your mother about the family traditions so he could get everything right.

and this didn’t go unnoticed by you, when your mom had called you the day after meeting with heeseung, you were a bit suspicious.

“oh y/n! i’m really proud of heeseung these days” you mom exclaims through the phone, “why so?”you reply

“he’s been really active in the wedding lately, have you not noticed? he went out to even ask me about the traditions you use to do when you and your sister were really young and to explain who’s related to who!” you take notice in how happy your mom sounds right now. “oh really! i didn’t know, i thought he was just getting the flowers for the wedding…” you trail off recalling the conversation you had with heeseung before you sent him off.

the conversation continues as your mom praises heeseung until you hear the door lock click and the sound of heeseungs voice calling for you.

“babe i’m home!” heeseung shouts. “okay bye mom i’ll call you back later,” heeseung walks into the room, “who were you on the phone with”

“just my mom” you trail off “heeseung have you been hanging out with her lately?” he replies, “yeah why did she say anything about me?” he perks up, “she said so many things about you i can’t even keep track anymore…” heeseung knows what’s coming and he pulls you into a hug as he hides his face in the crook of your neck.

“i’m sorry i should’ve told you and asked you questions instead but im just really curious about you and your family dynamics. i want to show your parents that ill always take care of you and prove to them that im right for you.” he says with a soft voice, “heeseung why would you be sorry, im so happy that you get along well with my family…”

“all of this has made me realize how much you truly mean to me. after every extra effort, every moment you went out of your way of trying to make the perfect impression on my family, i really really truly love you for that and i will always treasure this.”

heeseung lifts his head from your shoulder to look you in the eye and from the sudden eye contact you blurt out, “heeseung you truly are the one for me and i can’t ever see myself without you. i love yo-“ before you can finish the sentence heeseung captures you into a long kiss.

the kiss began to escalate as he delicately places you on the bed, heeseung pulls away and takes in your features, slightly out of breath he speaks,

“y/n, i love you with every being of me and just remember everything im doing is all for you. we should just- we should- i want to marry you.”
