One motion smear. One motion smear is all that is left on this scene. Then, it's finally done. It took longer than expected, just because there was SO MUCH rendering to do, despite my best efforts to space it out, and setting up a remote PC for rendering so I could work at the same time. (And reviving an old laptop with Linux, so I wouldn't even have to run the remote PC on the same computer while animating, since every ounce of performance counts for smoother animation feedback.) Of course, setting up the remote PC and the laptop also took some time...but, it's all done for future scenes now!
I've also been doing some work to prep for future episodes. I never want to spend this long on a single episode again. You might remember that recently, I finally plotted out exactly what's happening in the Formicosa arc (the first half of the story--the second half is already pretty solid). Now, I've gone through and outlined it episode by episode, up to episode 20! I'm planning to outline the rest soon.
The way I've written this series, I have most of it already done, just in disconnected snippets across multiple files. At this level of outlining, now, I really just need to go in and put it all in order!!!
Once this is done, I intend to try to get it all voiced over the course of a few months or so (not counting lectures). The point of this is, now that I've been hiring additional people to help me, I'll be able to start simultaneous work on multiple episodes at a time. In particular, I'm going to be offloading some of the work on boarding and a lot of the work on staging, so I can focus on models and animation!
So. Your takeaway from this should be...look out for more casting calls soon!!!

Next week, we start on the scenes that have very little animation to do. I'm hoping I'll be able to breeze through these. Though a couple longer scenes remain, both are extremely simple. i feel like we can’t really talk any shit about birds who get tagged by scientists becoming extra desirable to other birds bc like imagine if someone was abducted by aliens and given a mysterious unbreakable bracelet. and then when you ask them about it they get this complicated and distant look in their eyes and admit they don’t know what it is but the aliens put it on them and they can’t take it off no matter how hard they try. and you go oh that must have been terrifying and their expression softens a bit and they say it was, but it made them realize just how precious our brief time on earth really is, and they don’t know when they’ll be taken again but it’ll probably be for good this time so until that day they want to live every moment to the fullest, watch every sunrise, cherish every beautiful thing. then they reach over and gently pluck a fallen leaf out of your hair, and for a second you’re distracted by the dazzling shimmer of the cuff around their arm but then you realize they’ve been looking at you with this soft sort of smile on their face so you lean closer and idk the point is i think it would work on us too probably
