On the off chance that AO3 gets censored, where are we putting all our Snape stuff? Can we have a plan B?
It’s highly unlikely ao3 is gonna get censored. And if it did, not anytime soon. The board takes like forever to make a decision on anything.
But a backup is always a good plan. I’m all up for going back to ye-olden web rings days where we had websites. I remember loads on geocities but as that’s gone, Neocities is a great replacement.
Seconding that it’s unlikely for AO3 to go all-in for censorship.
For anyone confused, there’s a candidate running for an OTW board position who has some made some concerning statements. It’s not likely she’ll be voted in, honestly. (Look for anything about AO3 and Tiffany G) Even if she was voted in, she’ll be one vote on a board that can out-vote her.
It’s a good idea, though, to not put all your eggs in one basket. Dreamwidth is also a possibility for text content hosting, although they don’t have image hosting. They do have communities, etc. baked into the design.
I have a Dreamwidth account because I liked LiveJournal and their TOS.
@heatherlly any thoughts?
I know nothing about the AO3 situation, though I agree it's good to have a backup plan. Do you want me to set up an archive on my site? I can get that done within a couple weeks.
