Flare Survival Guide
I’ve gotten a lot of positive reactions from my prep guides/product recommendations so I thought I’d do one a little deeper about managing flares.
This’s all stuff I’ve collected and learned over the years because everything makes a difference. I don’t do medication recommendations but here’s some stuff that helps me personally get through flares.
The Comfort Draw (by my bed)
Painkillers and sedatives (again, no recs)
Ginger tablets for nausea
Anti constipation meds - painkillers will block you up badly
Peppermint chewing gum (nausea - although I’ve been informed this is not good for those with acid reflux)
Juice - some medications taste vile and it stays in your mouth
Breakfast drink/muesli bars (for when I can’t get out of bed)
Vapour rub - helps ease my breathing
Pain/anti-inflammatory balms/gels
Medical tape for bad joints
TENS machine
Bubble blowers (because why not)
Jellybabies/chocolate
Ear plugs (sensory overload)
eReader
Cheer up picture books
Cards from loved ones (invaluable when you feel alone)
Pain Draw (under comfort draw)
Heat packs
Physio bands
Knee pillow (keeps my hips level)
Lavender spray (anxiety)
My partner’s deodorant (ldr sucks)
Teddy bear
Hand cream (smells nice and stops your hands drying out)
Oil diffuser + candle/oil (for anxiety)
boomerang pillow (the best thing i ever bought)
soft lighting (little switch on the left - gentle lighting for sensory overload/anxiety)
Please rb this to your friends/family with chronic pain xx
If anybody has any other suggestions, I’d love to hear it.

“The low-maintenance woman, the ideal woman, has no appetite. This is not to say that she refuses food, sex, romance, emotional effort; to refuse is petulant, which is ironically more demanding. The woman without appetite politely finishes what’s on her plate, and declines seconds. She is satisfied and satisfiable.
A man’s appetite can be hearty, but a woman with an appetite is always voracious: her hunger always overreaches, because it is not supposed to exist. If she wants food, she is a glutton. If she wants sex, she is a slut. If she wants emotional care-taking, she is a high-maintenance bitch or, worse, an “attention whore”: an amalgam of sex-hunger and care-hunger, greedy not only to be fucked and paid but, most unforgivably of all, to be noticed.”
— Hunger Makes Me, Jess Zimmerman
Christ, this article made me legit well up in tears at work…
“Women talk ourselves into needing less, because we’re not supposed to want more—or because we know we won’t get more, and we don’t want to feel unsatisfied. We reduce our needs for food, for space, for respect, for help, for love and affection, for being noticed, according to what we think we’re allowed to have. Sometimes we tell ourselves that we can live without it, even that we don’t want it. But it’s not that we don’t want more. It’s that we don’t want to be seen asking for it. And when it comes to romance, women always, always need to ask.”
THIS. SO FUCKING THIS.

Dead ass scary. Society taught men to behave like this. We need to do something.

a msg to u from the dog that finally learned how to give me the dang ball
why is it that villains and not protagonists are always the ones breaking gender roles hmmmm
it’s called queercoding and it’s intentional and basically brainwashes kids into having negative associations with those traits
it backfired. now i’m just hot for super villains.

girls dont mature faster than boys, girls are punished from an early age for the same behaviour that boys are allowed to indulge in well into adulthood
i actually talked about this with a psych professor and she believes that women/young girls have been pushed into responsibility from young ages for so long that its actually triggered an evolutionary effect where young girls are literally developing mentally early in order to cope with the stress.
Girls literally start puberty like 4 years before boys but okay
no one’s talking about puberty
the good place is a good show because it has genuinely touching moments that discuss what it means to be a good person and how others can impact you positively etc. but also it has stuff like this
