No trainer is perfect and even the most experienced rider makes mistakes. The most important thing is to realize this and try and correct the errors.

My reasons for doing things:
1. Spite 2. The Aesthetic
Thatās it.
I fully get Elisa Wallace's apologetic explination
But I am so goddamn disappointed in her selfishness on a clearly tapped out horse. You could tell 5 fences from home Johnny was out of gas and she didnāt pull him up. No. She pushed him harder. He barely made it. I was watching her try and her him to the last thinking āif he makes it over, heās either going to drop and need vet attention, or will HAVE to be withdrawn before show jumping.ā As I was thinking that, HE FELL. HE COULDNāT EVEN MAKE IT OVER THE LAST FENCE but he TRIED and nearly caused himself serious harm.
I agree with the FEIās decision to issue a yellow card. Horse welfare comes first, and while Iām unsure if they actually held that up outside this instance (saw a horse with a rider in pink DRIPPING blood from the mouth ON COURSE and when the rider dismounted), at least Elisa hopefully had a wake up call.
Overall, it was incredibly disappointing performance for Elisaās first international 4*. She let herself down, let Johnny down, and let America down with her actions.
In no way wanting to start drama but I couldnāt help but notice a couple of incorrect points youāve made in here⦠It wasnāt Elisa and Johnnyās first international 4*, it was their second international event (she competed successfully at Burghley last year). She also didnāt as you saidĀ āpush him harder,ā she nursed him home with no legs on (you can clearly see this) until approaching a jump, the commentators even commender her for this, stating themselves that she wasĀ āin no way abusing the horse, but simply nursing him home.ā - Words from Zara Phillips mouth. I do agree to the yellow card as well, but it disappoints me that a whole lot of people are voicing their uncalled for opinions upon her and the incident. What about all the other 4* riders who have made the same mistake and mistakes that are a lot worse? I canāt remember the name of the rider or horse but a couple of years ago an American rider was pulled up on a course and given a yellow as her horse had blood dripping from its mouth. Theres been countless incidents with riders around the world but nothing that has received as much hate as Elisaās, which is so wrong. I feel like theres a lot of people bashing her for this instance and forgetting the fact she is human, she made the mistake, accepted it (and the yellow card) and was deeply sorry and felt that she had truly let down her country and Johnny. Isnāt that enough? Why do people feel the need to kick the woman whilst she is down?
The course was brutal. Only TWO riders made it through double clear. Surely that speaks volumes? More riders had incidents on the course than the number that completed it. A horse DIED as a result of an incident on the course which lead to it getting up after a fall and running out of fear back to the stables through crowds, then falling on gravel and breaking its shoulder. Although it wasnāt the course that directly caused the death, it was the spark. The course was in no way straightforward, it was hell. A rider stated after completing the course that she feltĀ āunsafeā at times on courseā¦. if that doesnāt say something then I donāt know what does. The course drained every ounce of life out of 90% of horse and rider pairs.
itās horrible to see people stating that sheĀ ālet America down.ā I would be heartbroken if I saw that from multiple people. Sure, what happened was horrible. But theres no need for others to continually tell her that she let her home country down and is aĀ ādisgrace to the eventing world.āĀ
Not targeted at the creator of this post or anyone, just wanted to voice some words as the amount of hate I have seen across social media in regards to Elisa has made my heart ache for her. Step into her shoes for a while. :)Ā
P.s. Ā love your blog
@heartofequine I have since been corrected and educated, my friend ā¤ļø thank you for continuing a civil and polite discussion and also trying to help me understand from my dressage prospective. P.s. Thanks for handling this so well! I much appreciate it. Love you as well.
I love this ā¤ļø
