Announcement from Mod Pepper (on behalf of the team)

Hey gang, 

We hope this message finds you safe and healthy and that the same can be said for everyone you love. When we started this journey last September, we had no idea how much the fandom would embrace the idea of creating happily ever afters for all our favorite characters. And embrace you did! The stats do not lie - a few ideas from us and y’all ran with it to the tune of hundreds of thousands of words. 

But the world - as we all know - is different now and our lives are as well. While both events brought us so much joy, MHEA will not be running future events. This decision was not come to lightly, but it is the best one and we hope you trust us in this. 

However, that does not mean the happily ever afters have to end! We’ll be leaving this blog up for the foreseeable future, and with it - all the prompts for both events. Take, use, create to your absolute heart’s content. 

It’s been our joy facilitating your creativity these past few months, and it’ll be our joy to watch it as fellow fans from here on out. 

Keep Well & Believe in Happily Ever Afters, 

I (mod Juuls) will also be keeping the Tumblr maintained. I won’t be around as often as before but all you need to do to get ahold of me is message me @juuls, send an Ask here to @heamarvel or to @juuls, or just tag me in a post! I’ll be adjusting the Tumblr a little more so that relevant info is within easy reach, such as our Harlequin and Holiday prompts.

As you can see here, we do still receive, upon occasion, fics or art that have been filled late, or that we didn’t even know they were writing, etc. But we won’t deny these people the chance to share their HEAs, so we will happily reblog any post you make about a fic, etc. that is taken from one of our prompt lists.

We think that it’s amazing you want to keep creating (we had a few questions on this earlier, in fact!) and there is no way in hell that any of us will stop you from doing that. Especially in times like ours.

Summary: When a scandal drives Tony Stark from his family and home, he takes a position as tutor to the children of a far-off boyar. He arrives in the country to find the boyar himself absent and the castle staff mistrustful. The children are their own challenge, the elder openly hostile and the younger entirely too clever for her own good.

Despite various mishaps such as the appearance of a ghost, the boy getting himself arrested, and Tony getting lost in the woods, the work is satisfying. Tony is beginning to think he might be able to make a place for himself here… And then the boyar comes home.

Now, things are really hard.

Notes: This is sort of Jane Eyre/Mary Shelley meets Marvel. We couldn’t post it in time for the event, but it was inspired by the @heamarvel Holiday Challenge, prompt #2: “After losing their job as an au pair in New York, Character A accepts a position as a nanny in the castle of a small European principality no one has ever heard of. Character B is a single parent & ruler of the country.”

Tony held on to the coach bar, swaying with every bump and jolt.

“Just how much farther have we to go?” he asked the driver. He was almost glad that he had so little luggage to bring with him; if he’d had more than a simple case, it would surely have been jostled loose and fallen on his head by now.

“Top o’ the hill,” the man said, pointing with his whip. He sneered as he said it, and Tony wasn’t certain if the man meant to use the whip on the horses, or on him.

The hill (so called, though it seemed a little more precipice-like than any hill Tony had ever encountered) was dim and black, clouds covering it. A few lights could be seen, not so much twinkling like stars, but more guttering like dying flames. And then the clouds parted, just a little, and by moonlight, Tony could see–

Castle.

He was going to an actual castle. Complete with walls and towers and probably a damn moat for that matter.

Dungeons.

He held his breath for a moment, staring into the darkness until another glimpse of moonlight shone on the edifice again.

Yes. Definitely a castle, and not a manor house with fanciful turrets, or a walled town. Castle.

Lord Barnes, then, and not merely Mr. Tony wondered why the factor hadn’t corrected him from the start. At least he knew now, and wouldn’t embarrass himself utterly on his first meeting with his new employer.

Some overall stats for the Harlequin Hoopla:

We’ve got 127 works in 2 languages - that’s about 21 works for every week of the event.

Total words written: 439.508 - that’s about 4,6k words per work! The minimum for most categories was 500 works, so we’re completely blown away by how amazingly productive you guys are!!

35 ships have been sailed, including 7 poly ships, 4 femslash, and 22 rare (meaning less than 2000 works on AO3) ones. 63% of all ships in the event are rare ones, how awesome is that?!

The most popular ships, according to number of works, are: Stony, Karedevil, Stucky, WinterHawk, Stuckony. Wordcount-wise, those five are joined by StrangeFrost and x reader.

The most popular characters, are, unsurprisingly: Bucky Barnes (235k words and 46 works), Steve Rogers (232k words, 62 works) and Tony Stark (157k words, 54 works).

53% of works fall into Romance and SuperRomance categories - seems you want to read fluff… but smutty Presents isn’t far behind, with 23%!

Stucky

Bucky Barnes and Steve Rogers, to the end of the line. This time, a happy ending, thank the stars! Between just five authors, they managed to crank out almost ninety thousand (90,000!!!) words for this star-crossed pair.

As you can see, this ship is our number one most popular ship by word count, and it sits very comfortably at second as far as the amount of works go. One author alone pumped out over 2/3 of the content, and another author wrote six fics… and then translated them all into Polish. Or vice versa — either way, that’s amazing.

What a talented fandom we’re a part of!

Ah, Steve Rogers and Tony Stark, our delecta— ahem, sorry, our delightful leaders! What’s a multiship event without these blockheads going at it, whether they be making up after a fight or making up after a fight. You get me. ;)

Our number one most popular ship by number of works and fourth by word count, we saw an average of 2,315 words for them. The longest fic was 22k words, and the shortest was 617 (a brief but really cool fic). 

The premises of these Superhusband fics were more varied than we saw for any of the others! Marvel 616, MCU… we even saw some Avengers Assemble—which was great and something we would love to see more of—and amidst all of that there were so. many. AUs. The Suspense line was definitely a hit.
