1. Cats go nuts for it.

Valerian contains a chemical called valerinone; this is similar to nepatalactone in catnip which triggers a positive response in cats. Not all cats respond to catnip, and not all cats respond to valarian, but we have found that some of our cats who ignore catnip can’t stay out of the supplies of valerian, so if your cat isn’t a catnip feind, valerian can make a great alternative.

2. Helps you glide off to sleep. Valerian is a muscle relaxant, so it can assist with relaxing your body. It is a main ingrediant in a lot of natural store bought sleep aids. Works well as a tea just before bed.

3. Can help with depression and anxiety. The effectiveness of valerian as an aid for anxiety is still being researched and there are not conclusive studies at this point. However there are a lot of responses saying that it is effective in helping with depression and anxiety so if you suffer from these give it a try and see how it goes.

4. Ease period pains. Valerian is a muscle relaxant and acts like a painkiller. I suffer from PMDS and have found that valerian is great for relieving some of the tension with cramps and for taking my moods down a notch. 

5. Spells. Great to add to Protection, Purification, Sleep and love spells.  A small amount in a pouch under or in your pillow case is a great way to assist with sleep and protection. 

The Bone Goddess by Rhiannon Lavis - Part of the team at bonefox

The Bone Goddess is something I drew a couple of years ago, but she had been in my head for years before that. I keep wanting to draw her over and over.

To me, she is a spirit of death. But to understand her you must understand the role death plays in nature. Death is not evil or cruel, it is a necessary part of natures cycles; in order for things to live, other things must die. Animals must consume other animals or plants, plants must consume the nutrients found in the bodies of the dead. We came from the earth and return to it, over and over in a perfect cycle where nothing is wasted.

The Bone Goddess oversees that cycle, she ensures that creatures die at the right time, that their bodies are not wasted. She is decay and the feasting of roots on bodies. She cares for the scavengers who assist her task, such as vultures, hyenas and sharks. Her companion in this artwork is a Griffon Vulture.

She abhors waste and anything that interrupts the cycle of death to life. Her enemies are poachers, trophy hunters, and those responsible for the needless deaths of war.

Made these little sleeping charms last night with darkkittyrose I embroidered the bindrunes for sleep and one I made for protection from nightmares and anxiety. Kitty made them into pouches, sleep rune on one side and protection on the other and filled them with sleeping and protection herbs from her stash.

I put one under my pillow last night and slept better than I have in weeks.

If you want to make some, use only natural fibres for the thread and bags, and I picked colours for the thread that I associate with what I wanted. For me that was dark lavender for sleep and a warmer deep purple for protection.

I put lavander oil and sage oil on the threads as I sewed the runes on. Lavander for the sleep rune and sage for the protection one. (The protection rune is the one on the right)

In the bags Kitty put:
