Anders couldn’t help it. He snorted. Garrett just looked so offended with the cats in his lap, vulnerable in his bare feet and house clothes, and Anders ended up giggling so hard he had to lean on the door frame for support, burying his face in one arm. “Garrett — I don’t — think that that’s the biggest problem.”

"…there are more, aren’t there. How many cats did you bring home?”

Anders peeked out over his wrist. His face felt hot. He was blushing, he just knew it. “How many do you want there to be?”

In the end, there was only one solution, which was debated fiercely before both parties settled on a compromise they could both stand.

“What?” at sixteen, Anders had already escaped the tower multiple times and had always been dragged back, Karl nursing him back to health and giving him pep talks once he’d been released from the dungeons.

Lately he’d just been gazing at Karl with the oddest expressions and the older Mage wondered if there was something wrong with him.

“Are you all right?” he reached out to touch his forehead, his fingers glowing with green fire.

Anders smiled. “Just fine…”

“Your temperature just went up, are you sure?”

“Oh… yes…”
