jannik knowing he'll hardly be able to make up for scarring carlos' gentle heart with coldness.... head canonically carlos feeling guilty over feeling hurt...... even if he knows that he should be tougher and meaner and less of a people pleaser when people are jannik he just can't help himself, ashamed at feeling offended when jannik is being a bastard (dictatornik and his "you fucking sitting" oh i know he has a temper reserved for people close to him) 🥺🥺🥺🥺 so he tended to just shove his hurt somewhere and bask in it away from jannik not to burden him, which had been scarring him further and further before jannik enlightened and decided to stop being cold and distant and found understood what he'd been doing to carlos. so maybe now he's trying to teach carlos to tell him when he's unhappy or hurt or uncomfortable, learnt to peak up on the smallest shifts in carlos' behavior knowing his secretive withholding destructive tendencies

counter proposal that when jannik seriously pisses carlos off for actively setting off his pet peeves carlos gets a big smile on his face that’s suuper obviously forced and is like “i’m fine 🙂”. and then he stops touching him, joking with him, total silent treatment… and you know what that drives jannik up the Fucking Wall 😭 for carlos it’s soooo much more effective than bickering with him, but way less fun. eventually jannik gets over himself and organizes a really nice date night where he apologizes and carlos is like “ok 😇 but you’re gonna mention me in every press conference for the next week” and tbh that really does it for their mutual exhibitionist/possesive tendencies and so they both get over it 😝
