I can't wait to watch the movie adaptation of the side story

Ok so if you ignore the fact that this is supposed to be an adaptation of a novel and just treat the movie as a standalone it is---! also not so good.
The beginning of ORV is already pretty (intentionally) bland as a typical gritty apocalypse setting but it had sprinkles of deeper themes and important plot points that would come up later. The movie completely ignored all the seeds that were planted at the beginning and muscles through the early scenarios like a train without rails.
The original setting is completely flipped over, none of the Star Stream rules are followed, character backstories and powers rewritten, everyone has an Inventory now? Every little detail that props up the overall plot completely ignored.
Some of the actions they take are the same (like Dokja not picking a sponsor) but without any of the other rules being followed, the reasoning behind their actions is erased.
Also why is everyone from strangers to Gilyoung calling him Ahjussi. it's not even a dig at his age anymore they're just calling him that out of nowhere.
Going in without having read ORV you would have been confused by the complete lack of explanations on any of the powers or what's going on. Going in with having read ORV you would be confused by the complete ignorance with which they treat the source material.
The sets, soundtrack, CGI, voice acting, were all pretty decent. If the movie had the same production quality but actually followed the novel it would've been great. Even the casting choices, I could get used to them with time.
