they make me siiiick. i think theyre equally embarassing cliche tropes fern is just significantly less selfaware xe just acts like that naturally whereas flowery learned it and just thinks thats what being cool is. guy that goes 'wow im so glad im normal' and then unironically aloud fullchest does the 'tch i dont even like you' thing. ew. and then flowery of course has to make up for it by being overly sweet and obnoxious. which just makes fern 5x worse.

also i ❤️ putting all my issues on my ships. fern i love you thats why im giving you the worst internalized ableism imaginable ok. i think xe feels a lot of guilt over asgore worrying about them and flowery "having to" (guy that takes 'someone has to take care of the flowers' too seriously) take care of them in the dark world.

the basis of their relationship is being opposed by the other (flowery is the 'perfect flower,' fern doesn't think sie even qualifies to be a flower) so i really like putting them in situations where they kinda have to work together. fern can be mad about being taken care of but it doesnt stop the fact flowery's doing it for their sake, even if it starts off selfishly. later, i think flowery having to become his own person separate from someone else's wants would be hard for him. being next to someone who has equally low self-esteem but kind of has to just keep going [god knows how asgore would react to his flowers dying] would make him respect hir a lot more.
