In which Jamie's hopes and dreams come tumbling downย โฆ

[ tw: broken bones ]
The sky outside is beginning to darken, and Jamie thinks they have at least a few more hours of group practise in preparation for the performance tomorrow to do, before they break off to work alone, or head to bed for a good nights restโsomething a lot of them desperately need. His body aches, and he's beginning to notice sloppy mistakes in his dancing. Perhaps, if he sits out for a while, his 'battery' will recharge just enough to get him through the next few hours. The success of his performance relies on him feeling ready, rested, and him not overthinking everything. It's easier said than done.
Things had been difficult for Jamie since Mason's elimination. Even harder since Mason had left altogether. The future Jamie had imagined for them together began to crumble, and so did his previously unshakable belief that he'd debut with his best friend. When he'd only been eliminated, he'd hoped he'd make it back into the elite class, only to hear of his departure from the company. There seemed no coming back from that. It all left Jamie so unsure of what he was doing, where he was headed, and if he'd ever even make it without the support of his best friend. Sure, he had Suho and Chaemin, Robby and all his other friends, but none of them were Mason. None of them truly understood him the way Mason had.
For not the first time in Jamie's life, he feels a dark cloud begin to gather over his head. It's slow at first, creeping in like the drizzle of lukewarm rain in springtime, the sun still stubbornly peeking through the light rainclouds. That day, as he practises for the Scent of You performance, he'd noticed how oppressive it had begun to feel. The rain was no longer gentle and unoffending, it had a sharp, chilling bite to it that made him flinch. While he's surrounded by friends, somehow, as he peers around him at the familiar faces, he feels more alone than he ever has.
Jamie had never been very good at recognising when he was beginning to spiral, not, at least, until it was far too late. He'd wake up one day, many weeks after it began, and realise that his life had been falling down around him and he'd been standing, oblivious amongst the rubble, smiling as if it was all fine until that smile ran out and he was faced with the ruin of what he couldn't prevent. He hadn't yet noticed it, though. His gaze sits just above the steadily growing wasteland of broken dreams around his feet.
The music abruptly stops, and break time is called. A collective sigh of relief ripples across the room as the trainees disperse to prop themselves up against the walls for the next fifteen minutes, catching their breathe and sitting as still as they possibly can. Jamie turns to walk over to where he'd left his water bottle, his mind elsewhere, eyes cast only ahead of himโit's his fatal mistake. He doesn't see the rubble waiting to bring him down amongst the rest of the broken dreams.
It happens quickly.
Jamie's foot catches on something (which he'd later come to find out had been Sungho's foot), and as he falls forward, he reaches out his arms to catch his fall. He'd always wondered whether, in the seconds before tragedy, time would slow down, and he'd be able to see it all happen frame by frame. Instead, his eyes shut, anticipating a painful embrace with the floor. He isn't, however, expecting a loud snap! to echo through the room as his left hand meets the wooden floor. The pain is immediate, like a hot, incessant ache. As he lays there on the floor, eyes clamped shut, he realises someone's screaming. For a moment he wonders why, and who, until it dawns on him that it's his voice. He's the one screaming. The ache is constant, but with every minute movement, a breathtaking, shooting pain flashes through the entirety of his arm. After what could have been a mere second, or a whole five minutes, Jamie opens his eyes and finds himself lay on his back, right arm curled protectively over his very obviously crooked left one that he's holding to his chest.
Amidst frantic shouting and a blur of faces above him, Jamie can tell he's still crying out intermittently and a few tears are sliding down the sides of his face. It begins, then, to dawn on him; the reality of the situation. He'd just broken his arm, badly. So badly in fact that he doesn't need an x-ray to confirm it. This, however, isn't what makes him cryโit's the realisation that they won't let him perform tomorrow. He's under no misguided impressions that the staff will let him, with a severely broken arm, perform on stage less than 24 hours after an injury like this.
Finally, Jamie can see the rubble that had been piling up around him for a while now. He's been dragged down amongst it, and he can see it piling up, building itself up so high that it blots out the sun. There's nothing surrounding him now but the dark cloud, and the ruin of all he'd hoped to achieve. It's as if, in slow motion, he watches his entire future fade away. The debut he'd hoped to make, snatched away from him, and with it, the belief that he'll ever make it.
Jamie can't speak as his fellow trainees are shooed away and he's helped to his feet, escorted out. It's as if, with the loss of his future, his voice had abandoned him too. The thing he'd relied so heavily on had left him when he proved himself no longer a worthy vessel for it. The lump in his throat, he believes, will remain forever. A reminder of his failure.
He was rightโthey don't let him perform, and inform him that, for his own well-being, he'll be removed from the show, to give him time to recover. He'd broken both bones in his left arm, and is told he'll be in a cast for six weeks, that he shouldn't do any form of exercise at all for at least two weeks. With that, his fate is sealed, and he's sent back to the company dorms, his belongings from the Hyde Academy rooms already packed and sent back to his dorm room.
The room is unfamiliarโMason's belongings are gone, and Jamie's side of the room has a fine layer of dust covering the surfaces. He shakes out his blankets with his good hand, and despite it being the middle of the day, he crawls under them, clutches one of his plushies to his chest, and cries himself to sleep.

My sweet prince. Those two words and three syllables left him speechless. He could still feel the ghost of Jamieโs fingertips swiping over his hair, the softest act ever done on him, he practically melted in place. A shiver running down his spine made the hair on the back of his neck stand up, fading away all hope of control. Maybe itโs true, he certainly lacked experience. Maybeโฆ But when with the right someone, the pieces fall together into a perfect fit naturally. Rarely did the thought of his shortcomings make him doubt where they stand, trusting Jamie and hanging on to his words as if his future depends on it. The company, training, and responsibilities, they blur in shades of gray; and the thresholds of whatโs important seemed realigned in the favor of his heart. Surely, that was worth counting on.
A dazed look crossed his eyes, never good at receiving compliments, especially sweet ones coming from his beau. If only he knew Haneul had been looking for him for a while now. He even jotted down a list of an ideal type back in his academy days, dubbing it โP.Cโ short โPrince Charmingโ โ gazing into Jamieโs open, inviting eyes, he seemed to check all the boxes and others he hadnโt thought of. For a while they did fall into a routine, dancing around one other โ soft glances, soft touches, and soft words like passing planes in the night. Now they seemed to fly an open sky, together, and God, did he love how that sounded.
He grinned brightly out of pure habit and found himself naturally giving into the night, grabbing Jamieโs hands and pulling him to follow. โOkayโฆ Cโmon,โ He wanted to etch his own tale of the heart, debauchery, and fill his senses with the thought of Jamie no matter the obstacles. His love tales so far could not fill a small novel and instead read like a haiku.
untold loves held close

then time stops with him.
The entire penthouse loft had a beautiful panorama of the city. As he led Jamie up the stairs, he felt more vulnerable than ever with the large space and openness of Jamie. However polished the exterior of his background may seem, itโs almost like a dirty secret. Bringing too many reminders to count. Jamie may see the loft doesnโt hold any memorabilia, family portraits, or any sign ofโฆ a Family. Aside from his dog, quietly sitting on his bed. โIโd like you to meet our guard dog, Coco. Sheโs friendly, justโฆ Doesnโt like her haircoat messed up,โ He laughs softly. He waits by the door, hand in his pockets, shy but his eyes remained on Jamie to see his reaction. Probably the one part of the loft actually disheveled, books out of place on a small library case; his โbedโ being an upholstered chaise couch; and an office desk, cluttered with CD cases. HIs plushie collection, however, is not a bunny out of place.ย
Back in San Diego, Jamie had dated a couple peopleโit had never been for long, nor had it really been anything deep, but they'd always gotten his hopes up for a sparkling future filled with the romance he so dearly craved. He'd wanted those to turn out right, and yet they'd never been what he was looking for. They'd merely been high school flings, heated and exciting, but it was always the kind of fire that burned bright, but fizzled out quickly. It had been fun, though. He'd enjoyed dabbling in romance, in pleasure, in figuring out what made others tick, what made pretty little giggles bubble up their throats, and smiles etch their way onto their faces, the kind that always made Jamie want to kiss them even harder. He'd not had anything like that in a while, though. He'd been so busy with training that the people he'd kissed had always just been friends, and they'd always both been doing it with the understanding that it was merely for pleasure. That was, until Haneul.
Haneul changed it all for Jamie. He was a friend who Jamie just kissed one dayโhe thought it'd be fun, that they could just be friends who had a good time together, and somehow that had turned into something that burned slowly, hotter than any fire he'd ever felt sparking inside him before. It was something that crawled out from his chest, it's warm fingers tracing steady paths down through his veins, along his limbs, until he felt that heat all over, flushed to the very tips of his ears as he stared at Haneulโthe flame to his spark. Seeing this place that belonged to him, and not a variety of other young men, made something a little heavy settle on Jamie's chest. Somehow, this seemed important, like a big step in their... relationship, whatever it may be.
Rich people's houses weren't entirely unfamiliar to Jamie. He'd had rich friends, and his parents had had even richer friends, but the penthouse seemed like even a step up from the fanciest of houses he'd been in back in San Diego. The view makes him pause for a moment, breathless, eyes wide in awe of the cityscape, stretching out as far as the eye can see. It's beautiful, the lights all twinkling like they're trying to reflect the night sky above. As beautiful as this place is, though, he doesn't miss the lack of a homely touch. Then again, some people live like thatโnot putting a personal mark on their homes the way Jamie had always liked to. He'd dreamt of having kids one day and marking their heights on the wall, hanging family pictures all along the walls and trying not to trip over toys strewn around the rooms. This penthouse, while beautiful, didn't feel much like a home to him.
Though, as he enters Haneul's room, his eyes scanning the surroundings, he smiles a littleโthis feels a lot more like him. It's still not complete in Jamie's mind. He wonders if he's noticing the lack of him there. He'd like to become a permanent fixture in Haneul's life, though even the mental admission of it makes him blush a little. It takes him a moment to notice the dog on the couch, and it takes everything in him to not bound over and fuss her. "Oh my god... You know how I feel about dogs, baby." He says, voice soft as he gazes at the beautiful creature. He wants so badly to cup her little face and squish it, to fluff her hair and rub her belly, but he holds himself back and instead turns to face Haneul. "I don't like to bother a comfy pup, but I really wanna get my hands on you..." His voice is low as he moves closer to Haneul, crowding him a little, his hands gripping his waist to pull him flush against his chest. His lips press against his, a little softer this time, but they linger for a while, unable to keep away for long.
So, clearly I dropped off the face of the earth for a while, but your bad bish is back in business! Jamie's smile doesn't quite meet his eyes as he crouches beside the stream, running his fingers through the running water, eyes peeled for any small creatures he can befriend. Not far downstream, he can hear Taegyeom moving about, though he doesn't look over. He'd begged him to accompany him to the stream near their campsite, in hopes of cheering himself up by taking his mind of everything that had occurred recently. Not only had Jamie's... Haneul, been moved to the Underclass group, Mason had followed shortly after, leaving Jamie without his best friend and his... whatever Haneul was. While he had faith in both of them, and believed they'd soon be back with him, it was hard facing the possibility of not having them with him eventually. His dream had always been, since becoming a trainee, to debut with Mason. Facing the reality that that might not happen was tough.
"Find anything yet?" He calls out, sitting back on the grass and looking over at Taegyeom. "I could've sworn I saw a newt here the other day. He was too fast though, so I couldn't catch him." Jamie says through a pout, then lays back, his hair splaying out around his head as he stares up at the canopy above them, and the glimpses of blue sky between the leaves. "Do you think I'm too dependent on other people?" He asks after a moment of silence, voicing a fear that had been brewing inside him for a while recently. Jamie's well aware that he's not going to get any words of wisdom out of Taegyeom, but he can't help but ask. The question had been bothering him for ages.
"Like I wanna debut. I do... But what if I don't debut with people I love? What if I'm split up from them? What if I end up lonely even if I do achieve my dreams? Will it even be fun achieving them if I can't share that pleasure with my friends?" He rambles, eyes locked on the sky above him, before he closes them and heaves a heavy sigh. After another deep sigh, he opens his eyes and turns his head to look at Taegyeom expectantly, desperate for at least some small consolation from him.

Jamie performsย Blue Flame, singing ONE's linesย โฆ
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐:ย 1,832 words
Hell yeah, what a great song to get to perform. Jamie had always liked 365, had looked up to them and enjoyed their music immensely, and now he was getting to perform it not just for trainers and company staff, but for thousands of people to tune in to see. He had no idea how many people would be watching him, but he knew it would be a considerable amount, and while that thought terrified him a little, he was beyond excited about the entire thing. He can't fall flat now, not after messing up in the last task. He'd let himself down, but he'd also freaked himself out, knowing that if he kept messing up he'd not be able to debut with Mason, who in his eyes always shone the brightest.
It's not until they begin to practise and Taegyeom brings up Jamie's slight failings in the realm of being 'shirtless-ready' that Jamie realises he's expected to show some level of bare-chest. This fact utterly terrifies him and he's about ready to beg to switch parts with Taegyeom, who he knows would snap it up instantly. But, he doesn't want to be a quitter, and he'd never really managed to pull off sexy before, so surely he needs to try?! He can't give up before he's even given it a shot. So, he begs Taegyeom to help him try and help him make his frankly quite measly abs more prominent before the performance. He doesn't want to risk being over-dehydrated for the performance just to make his body seem more muscular, so he's going to have to just go with what he's got, which isn't a lot, if he's being honest.
It's around this time that the lack of Haneul around him really becomes far too noticeable. After crying his eyes out over his... something's elimination, he'd tried to focus all his energy on the performance, knowing he needed a distraction to stop himself from freaking out over Haneul getting eliminated. A few times he'd found himself up a little too late, sitting by the window that looks out over the mountain and wondering where Haneul is at that moment and what he's doing, if he misses Jamie as much as Jamie misses him. He misses climbing into bed with him every nightโhe'd been open in interviews about how hard he found it to sleep alone, and he missed sneaking off to the bathrooms, safe from any cameras, to steal kisses and whisper sweet nothings in his ear. He misses holding his hand under the covers and telling him they're going to debut together. He feels empty without Haneul beside him now.
Somehow, focusing on the performance isn't really doing enough to get his mind off it though, not when he knows Haneul would have made him feel so much better about performing even partially shirtless. If only he could talk to him, or just see him for a little while, but he's up here on this damn mountain, trapped away from the boy he... feels things for. He'd yet to really think about itโhe'd been so busy, and he'd not wanted to complicate it, not when it felt so nice to simply enjoy Haneul, but it's hard to deny that things feel so different with him compared to the other people he'd been with before. Yet, admitting how he feels right now, when Haneul had just been eliminated probably isn't the best thing to do, so as usual, he shoves it down and doesn't think about labels.
Instead, he thinks about how he's going to be humiliated when he performs with an open shirt and everyone sees his pathetic excuse for abs. Sure, he's got some definition, but it's nothing compared to Taegyeom's body. He'd describe what he had as '11-abs-plus', in short, he had two definite lines of muscle, with only slight lines cutting acrossโnothing to write home about in his opinion. He doesn't put as much time and effort into working out as he should, really, but that's where Taegyeom's help comes in. Suddenly all his free time is filled with core workouts, trying to get the definition he needed to make this shirt-open part not seems ridiculous.
Being completely tired out from practise, then working out every day, at least helps Jamie sleep better. The first night as he'd crawled into bed beside Mason, as he always did in the dorms, he'd lain awake thinking about Haneul, until he'd buried his face in Mason's shoulder and fallen asleep to his familiar scent instead. Mason felt like home to Jamie, and he didn't even want to think about having to deal with it if one of them got eliminated and he wasn't able to be beside him every day. Maybe that was to be Jamie's downfall. His desperate need to keep his loved ones right beside him. Jamie needed his people all the timeโhow did he expect to debut without them when he could barely handle a survival show without them?
Practise throughout the week doesn't go very well, thanks to Jamie's preoccupied mind and over-tiredness. Any time he's not practising, he's working out, and vice versa. He doesn't sleep enough, doesn't eat enough, and he realises towards the end of the week that he's being a hypocrite. He'd told Mason not to neglect himself last week, to get enough sleep, and yet here he is, overworking himself because he can't bear to sit down and let his brain think for too long. He'd not anticipated just how much strain this competition would put on him, and how absolutely unprepared he was for it.
But for the last couple nights before the performance, Jamie lets himself go to sleep at a sensible time, although he can't help but crawl into bed beside Mason, still unable to sleep alone. He wonders what viewers think, seeing Jamie never in his own bed, always slipping in beside a friend, cuddling up to them and burying his nose in their shoulder. Frankly, he's not sure he cares, though. There's nothing wrong in his mind with needing to fall asleep beside someone. He thinks of it like people who sleep with plushies, or hugging a pillowโhe just needs to hear someone breathing beside him to feel relaxed enough to drift off.
Finally, the day of the performance arrives and Jamie's nervous. He knows the lyrics, he knows the dance, and yet he's so scared that viewers will simply laugh when they see his shirt open and his measly excuse for abs exposed for the world to see. Jamie isn't usually insecure, but as he prepares, loose shirt already half unbuttoned, he wonders if he's really the right person to be doing this, or if this will bring the group down. Perhaps they shouldn't have included it at all, or given it to Taegyeom instead. Jamie isn't tall, or broad, or muscular, he's just average. It's too late to worry about now, though, as they take their positions on stage and Jamie takes deep breaths to calm himself. He needs to make sure he's focusing on his dancing, his expressions, everything that he tends to forget when he gets too into singing his heart out. If he just focuses on doing a good job, he won't worry so much about his bodyโor at least he hopes so.
As the music starts, and Jamie takes one last shaky breath, he puts his mind to the task of simply performing as he'd practised, pushing his worries aside as best he can. He opens the song, and thankfully, as it's easy enough to sing, he focuses on his expression, trying to seem seductive and almost mysterious. It's hard for him, being sexy but he'd spent the entire week working on it, asking for help from the other group members, and he can only hope that his hard work shines through now.
He's able to focus on nailing the dance before his next line at the pre-chorus, and as he focuses on anything but his overly exposed body, he manages to keep on the beat this time, his movements precise, strong, and yet graceful in a way that the song requires. That pit of nervousness still sits in the very depths of his stomach, but he just hopes it won't be visible to anyone else. It's easy to lose himself in his singing as he performs the pre-chorus, relying on the strength of it to impress, over any other aspect of him in that moment.
The longer the song goes on, the more confident Jamie feels, especially as he performs the second chorus, a slight smirk sneaking into his expressions, a somewhat mischievous sensuality falling over him as he puts his all into it. He loves this song, and he wants to perform it well, and to do that he has to at least pretend he feels sexy. How can he convince anyone else if he can't even convince himself?! So, he simply pretends. There's no way someone as pretty as Haneul would want to kiss him if he wasn't at least enticing in some way, right? Grasping onto that fact, he leans into the performance even more, desperate to prove himself.
Then, as Mason performs his part, Jamie knows what's coming up. As he stands at the side of the stage while Mason raps, he unbuttons the rest of his shirt and takes a deep breath, feeling just a little nauseous. But there's no time to worry about it before he's back on, focusing on the singing, the dancing, the expressions, and not on his entirely exposed abdomen. There's not much left of the song, only one more chorus, and everything goes smoothly, before Jamie finishes out the song with the last line, putting his all into it and hoping he did a good enough job to not be eliminated. He knows it wasn't his best performance ever, that his nerves probably shone through, but he really tried so hard.
Once the performance is over, Jamie takes a second to hurriedly button his shirt back up two thirds of the way at least, knowing he'll feel so much more comfortable when he's got a little more armour protecting him from the judges. They go down the line, giving their critiques, and then they get to Jamie.
"Jamie, you did well today. Your singing just keeps improving every time we hear you, and your dancing was much better than last week. The only critique I really have for you is that I could tell you were nervous and thinking about the 'abs-moment' the entire time. I know you wanted to try and prove yourself, whether to us, the viewers, or to yourself, and that you've mentioned you struggle with sexier concepts, but it was clear you weren't entirely comfortable with it. You don't need to put yourself in uncomfortable positions just to prove something to people, Jamie. Remember that. But, well done."
ย โHey you,โ smirking, trying to contain the excitement from overwhelming her face. Molan loved shopping and she loved styling - what better than to have a life size model, her own Ken Doll. What Jamie and Molan has is โPerfectโ - or so she says. They sparked small talk for a minute until Molan found herself chuckling at the barrage of questions from a seemingly excited Jamie. โBabes, we never โtry out stylesโ โ we create them. We wear the clothes, they donโt wear us โ now follow me!โ Molan grabbed Jamieโs folded arm and wrapped hers around it.ย
ย As theyโre walking towards the designer wing, Molan noticed a group of girls seeming to be whispering ..about them. Molan knew sheโd attract all types of attention with Jamie on her arm. His boyish looks and west coast style, was sure to cause a look or two. Thankfully, Jamieโs question re-gained her attention. โItโs simple reallyโฆ! the shorter the dress, the more of a chance a guy will give you his jacket.โ Molan shared a laugh as they continued to walk in stride.ย
ย Molan walked with such royal aesthetics, and she thought Jamie was the perfect compliment. She talked through their smirks and gestures to him - until they appeared in front of Yves Saint Laurent ยฉ.ย โBabes, first stop is always Saint Laurent, of course! But wait, you HAVE to try on the YSL shearling long coat, it comes in a rose color โ it would look amazing on you.โ Entering YSL was familiar to Molan, it was one of her favorite designers. The two were greeted at the door and offered champagne upon their arrival. Molan enjoyed having Jamie there toย โmake her happyโ, she hadnโt thought much about how he felt.ย
Jamie's well aware that his fashion sense leaves a lot to be desired. To him, an outfit is good if it's comfortable and he can move around a lot in it. Which typically means sweatpants are high up on his list of desirable clothing items. Of course, he'd seen pictures of fashionable guys wearing cool outfits, and yet he didn't have any idea how to go about putting together a cool outfit himself. "Easy for you to say, you're like... the fashion queen." Jamie responds through an exaggerated pout as he lets Molan tug him off towards wherever their first destination is. He's excited, honestly, his mind racing through images of him looking cooler than he'd ever looked in his life, and he makes a mental note to get Molan to take pictures of him as proof that he, once upon a time, looked put together.
He's oblivious to any eyes on them as he looks down at his companion with a bright smile, listening to her response and laughing. "Okay, that makes sense. I would give you my jacket too if your dress was so teeny weeny that I thought you might be cold." Sure, those dresses are eye catching, and have in the past had Jamie feeling like a cartoon character with hearts for eyes, he still found himself wondering, in the back of his head, about the girls in them's wellbeing. The same way he worries about their feet when they're wearing super high heels. They look painful and yet it seems like a lot of girls could run a marathon in a pair easy as anything. Maybe there's a secret class girls take to teach them how to do all this.
"Woah, like... desginer stuff? He hadn't even been aware that you were allowed to try on designer clothes. If he had he'd probably have done it before with friends. Though perhaps he'd not have been allowed in if he hadn't been with Molan, who looks expensive enough for somewhere like this. Now, Jamie's not some stranger to the finer things in lifeโhis family were definitely able to buy nicer things, afford more, live in a fancier home, but he'd never himself gone and bought designer stuff. He'd never had that taste for expensive things the way some other people he'd grown up with had. "Yo, champagne?! This place is so cool." He takes a sip and looks at Molan in surprise. "Is it always like this? Shopping in designers stores?"

Jamie performs Maverick as the Main Vocalistย โฆ
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐: 999
There'd been a nagging feeling in the back of Jamie's head over the past few days, one that had only occurred to him when the show had properly begun. What other group has he ever heard of that has had siblings in it? There was one, once, with twins, but other than that he can't think of any, and he'd heard of people leaving their companies so their siblings could debut instead. If he's right, this show will result in either him, or Robby, ending up completely broken. He thinks, as he watches his brother practise, that he'd rather he lost out than Robby. His brother is one of the hardest working people he knows, and if that means that Jamie has to stand by and watch him debut without him, then so be it.
Jamie just knows that Mason debuting without him, or him debuting without Mason would break his heart. Ever since the moment they'd met, Jamie had wanted nothing more than to debut with him, his best friend. Yet he watches as Mason works himself to the bone over the fourty-eight hours they have to prepare. Jamie isn't even sure if Mason sleeps. He tries to watch out for him, but with such a short time to prepare Jamie has to spend time focusing on himself as wellโhe knows Mason wouldn't want him putting aside his own practise just to look out for Mason, as much as Jamie wants to. But, he's sure no one misses the way he looks over at him every now and then, concern etched into his expression.
The minutes pass by, and before Jamie knows it, he's stood on the main stage on the day of the performance, staring across at Mason and noting just how tired he looks. He's worried, and yet he has to put Mason out of his mind because in just a few seconds he's going to be fighting for his life, fighting for his spot in this competition. And fight he does. The music begins and Jamie, tucked away in the back, knows he needs to be sharp, eye-catching, command attention despite being behind the other boys. He's a good dancer, but what he really relies on is his voice, and he knows in the second half of the song he'll get to shine. Yet, being in the back bothers him, makes him feel like he's being forgotten about, pushed out of the limelight.
Yet that changes when he stands in the centre and sings. Sharp movements punctuate the lyrics, his voice strong and clear, something he can always seem to rely on. Singing comes easily to Jamieโperhaps he's one of the lucky ones, who've got innate talent. But he knows better than to grow lazy, to believe that talent can carry him above others who work hard for their skills. He needs to keep afloat, keep his head above water and fight if he wants this, and oh boy does he want it. Before landing here, among trainees, pushed on by a spur of the moment decision when he was still young, he'd not known where he'd end up, no clear ambitions sticking out to him in his head. The moment he'd stepped into a practise room, though, he'd felt at home.
Just as at home as he feels now, standing at the side of the stage belting the high notes. The nerves that had crept along in his veins before the performance are nowhere to be found. With the adlibs to focus on, Jamie can't help but notice, belatedly, that he's about half a beat off, and had been for a good few moves now. He tries his hardest not to panic, trying to pick back up, to catch up with everyone else, and not scream at himself in his head. He's a dancer too, not just a vocalist, and what had he done? He'd gotten too swept up in enjoying himself and he'd fallen short, tripped up, let himself down. He doesn't think anyone else but him and the judges noticed, but isn't that all that matters? It won't go unnoticed, but at least with his adlibs done, he can focus on really making up for his mistake, though at this point he's not sure if he can.
Then, before he knows it, he's standing in the finishing position, shoulders rising and falling as he heaves breaths. Jamie's disappointed in himself. He'd not shown his best, he'd let himself down, the people watching him down, and as he readies himself for the judges feedback, he clasps his hands behind his back and picks at the skin around his nails. When they get to Jamie, he feels his shoulder's sag, expecting the worst. But, as they speak, taking it one at a time, they compliment his voice first and foremost, starting with the positives, he supposes. He can't find it in him to enjoy it though, not when he's dreading what they'll say about his mistake. They comment on his musicality, and breath support, control and ability to mix his voice, and then, inevitably, the sigh happens.
Oh Jamie, they begin, was it lack of preparation? At least they ask it like a question, which gives him hope that they don't believe he was slacking off. He'd only had fourty-eight hours, of course there'd been some element of 'lack of preparation'. But, the harsh comments, at least, aren't too harsh. They remind him not to get too confident in his voice, that he can rely on it, because it's strong, but that that should mean he can focus elsewhere instead, not lose himself in the song until he's got the dance down to muscle memory. Fourty-eight hours isn't enough to get there. He thanks them for their critiques, bowing low, and holding his position for a moment, unable to enjoy the praise he'd received. He'd hoped to start the show on a high note, and this most certainly isn't a high note.
if there's one thing that robby knows all too well, it's that his older brother, jamie, is an absolute slob. ever since the two of them were kids, robby's been annoyed by how careless his sibling is when he does just about anything. though, he notices that it gets especially bad whenever he's enjoying a meal. every dinner they share together typically ends with a table that looks tidy on robby's side & like a crime scene on jamie's. when they're in public, it's absolutely embarrassing, but no matter how many times he chides his brother for this behavior, nothing ever changes. at this point, he's near about given up, & when he witnesses jamie talking with his mouth full, then sloppily serving a side of his food for him to try, robby rolls his eyes ;; half-tempted to just get up & leave.
โ is this how you behave on dates ? โ he asks, scoffing. โ like, i get you think your food is good & all, but people are staring at us, jamie. the waitress is glaring at you like she wants to kill you, & if she tries, i'll stand back & let her. โ it's spoken mostly in jest, but there's an edge of seriousness that harmonizes with his tone, as well. after he speaks, he entertains the idea of taste-testing what his brother ordered, & he carefully shovels some of the noodles & meat into his mouth ;; humming slightly as he chews. unlike jamie, he waits until he's done chewing to speak. โ you're right, though... that is good. maybe i'll get that next time. mine's not as good as i thought it was gonna be. โ he shrugs, then pushes his plate aside.
when the conversation shifts to the evaluation, he breathes a heavy sigh ;; clearly annoyed by the goings-on of his group, & also by the comment that jamie made. though, before he's able to respond with a sly retort of his own, the argument between he & mason is brought up. awesome ! just what he wanted to talk about... โ yeah. what about it ? โ he asks, glancing over at his senior. โ it's not my fault that mason was being annoying & i had to tell him to back off. i know he's your friend, but that doesn't mean that i have to treat him with softness. he tried to jack my position. that's not cool to me. โ robby speaks honestly, his elbows now present on the surface of the table.
โ what did he say though ? he probably lied to you to make me sound worse. just sayin'. โ
Jamie often forgets his manners, especially with Robby. It's as though, around his little brother, all the things he constantly worries about getting right, and keeping in mind about polite company and how to hold himself in public goes right out the window. He forgets that he's not at home, safe from outside ridicule, and although he knows Robby's never been a fan of how sloppy Jamie can be, he'd never minded bothering him when they were at home, or in private. Now, though, as he glances over to the waitress, who is indeed glancing over at Jamie with a grimace, he feels a familiar shame bubble in inside him. Being carefree sure does have it's benefits, but it certainly comes with equal parts embarrassment. So, hanging his head, and grabbing his napkin to try and wipe at his face as best he can, he mutters an apology.
"Sorry, I... You're right. Sorry." When he goes to dig into his food again, this time he tries harder to control himself, eating slower and making sure to finish his mouthful before talking. It's a bit harder to enjoy the food when he's being so conscious of how he's eating, but he doesn't want to upset Robby, especially when he can tell from his posture that he's not in the best mood regarding the evaluation Jamie had, admittedly, been stupid enough to bring up. Perhaps, he thinks, he should've steered clear of this subject, knowing it might be a touchy one at this moment in time. But, when does Jamie ever think before he speaks?
"No, no he didn't say anything. I heard from someone else. Just heard you guys argued over the position." He shrugs, slurping up some of his noodles, then, after a moments forgetfulness, hurries to wipe his face again, just in case. "Mason wouldn't do thatโtry and make you sound bad, I mean." Having the two most important people in his life at odds with each other puts an uncomfortable feeling in his gut; a feeling he's currently trying very hard to smother with the food he's right back to spooning into his mouth. The more rice, the less displeased he'll feel, he thinks, chasing the rice down with a big, long drink from his water glass.

Thereโs the matter of when you spend half your time with someone, thinking of them when theyโre gone, counting the minutes to a reunion; plans change, perspectives change. In their moment of bliss, Haneulโs reminded he was entirely too smitten and there was not an ounce of excuse in him left to hide it. It was as if he wanted to dig deeper into the manโs inner workings and learn more about Jamie whom heโs starting to share beds with. Haneul has never had the luxury of having someone stay for a night, heโd never woken up to another person embracing him and genuinely caring for him in subtle ways he craves. Then again, Haneul has been thorny in his embrace in the past, prickly when it came to pursues. Perhaps he was selfish to lean into Jamie so muchโฆ But he felt their connection to be different. There was pure affection hidden underneath Haneulโs gaze.ย
Haneul doesnโt interject, he captures Jamieโs lips with his, and somewhere in that tiny second where their lips meet, time was entirely lost. The taste of his lips still lingers, and the scent of him, of his cologne, made for an intoxicating match. It was made better when he plays with the idea of how special Jamie was in the grand scheme of things. โThatโs what I was hoping for,โ he whispers as his lips teases the others softly, before allowing himself to get hot over their closeness. Jamieโs tone felt good to hear, a shiver sprouting from his head to his toes. He could stare at Jamie for days, and his devilish good looks. Haneul settles a hand on Jamieโs torso, softly to ground himself, but wanting burrow themselves there.ย
โThis nightโs for you, you get to decide what we do.โ He'sa flirtatious force around those the other, only, a terribly striking difference from the polite,ย Trainee Haneul. His beaming grin softens around Jamieโs own radiant one, his first attraction.ย Jamie managed to tug on all the necessary heartstrings and he was ready for a next step, a night where Haneul gave himself completely to another. The image of Jamieย like this โ self-assured, leading, carves into his mind.ย He would have to keep better track of moments like these in the future, perhaps with pictures and videos, but heโs getting ahead of him.ย
โI should show you my room, yes?โ Heโs nervous, of course, his cheeks flush. His room was not all that personalized aside from the few plushies that travel between from his dorm room to his estates; not a huge collection, but certainly noticeable. Feeling brave, Haneulย leans into a deeper kiss, arching his back to press closer to Jamie, to feel his smooth, sculpted form.ย
Jamie had always been looking for his person. He supposes it's the libra in him, that pushes him to look for that person that'll stand by his side and accept every bit of him, even the bits that suck (which are a lot of bits). It's hard, though, searching for that person and finding that, time and time again, the person he's kissing just isn't right. They may be beautiful, and funny, and kind, and yet something won't click for him. There will be something that just doesn't slot into place, and Jamie will blame himself. Because how can they be wrong when it all felt so right? But this... Oh, this.
Jamie can't find a single thing that doesn't click when he's with Haneul. He'd always thought it would be wonderful, a huge relief to find his person, and yet, as he thinks about Haneul being that perfect person for him, he's filled with a sort of nervous terror. Because, he realises, it isn't all down to him now. He can want Haneul more than he's ever wanted anyone before, and Haneul can so easily turn around and tell Jamie he's not the one for him. That he just likes the kisses. It would be just Jamie's luck, he thinks, to find his person, and find out he's not theirs. The thought alone is too much to bear, so he doesn't think about it. He pushes those serious thoughts away and focuses only on how nice it is to be alone with Haneul now.
Drunk off his soft curves, his pretty voice, his plump lips, Jamie hums in affirmation as Haneul mentions his room, his mind dancing off to things that make his insides burn. But then they're kissing again and it takes his breath away. It's so familiar, and yet each time feels just as exciting. His arms curl around Haneul's waist, pulling him flush against him, loving the way his body seems to contrast with his own; Haneul's all gentle curves and softness, while Jamie's angular and toned. Another thing, he thinks, to convince him that Haneul's his missing puzzle piece.
Eventually, Jamie breaks the kiss and gently presses Haneul against the wall, leaning against him to pin him there. He lifts a hand to gently brush Haneul's hair off his face, then smiles so wide his cheeks hurt. "You're so pretty, you know that?" His voice is low, as though he's speaking a secret that only Haneul gets to hear. Jamie's hand drops to cup his cheek, and his thumb brushes over his cheekbone, and he swear he feels his heart trying to escape his ribcage. "Come on then, take me to your chambers, my sweet prince." He says with a laugh, finally letting Haneul go and stepping back, but reaching out for his hand.

"This is the life, man." Jamie floats on his back in the pool, staring up at the ceiling and wondering when he'll next get a chance like this to just relax. He's going to need it, honestly, if the competition show is anything like as stressful as he envision it being. He turns over in the water and doggy paddles over to a blow up ring at the edge of the pool, pulling it in and, after a moment of struggling, manages to get it over his head and rests his forearms and chin on it, kicking his legs leisurely as he looks over at Mason.
"Are you enjoying it so far? Do you think they're like... testing us? What if we're meant to be using this time to, like, practise or something?" Jamie's brain always tends to run at a mile at minute, which doesn't help him relax when he really should be unwinding. "They can't just show me a pool and expect me to not spend every second in it. I'm going to walk into that show as pruney as a person's ever been!" He's got so many plans for their week in the hotel, and none of them involve practising, as much as he thinks they should. A week off is what he needs before the gruelling however long the show's going to be.
"I might get a drink from that rooftop bar too tonight. I've not gotten a little tipsy in forever. Care to join me?" He asks, paddling over to Mason and flicking some water at him. Jamie always likens himself to a dog, and when it comes to pools, he's the first to canon-ball right in. Luckily he'd not had a mobile phone when he'd been leaping into friends pools when visiting their houses, or he'd have absolutely forgotten it was in his pocket and broken it. Now, he makes sure he changes before jumping into pools, just in case.
Mason was basically shaking since the meeting, stimming nonstop by shaking his hands back and forth in excitement. His signature too-big smile was full on, unable to stop it. Because not only was he about to be on a show that could potentially lead to his debut, but he was going to be on it with his best friend in the entire world. It literally couldnโt get any better, so how was he supposed to contain his excitement? His pure unfiltered joy? It was impossible.
So, now the roommates were packing up for the move to their new home. Mason was overthinking this a lot, given they were told they could only bring two bags. Mason wasnโt sure if all of his things would fit into two bags, so he was dividing his clothes into two piles; ones he knew he wanted and ones he could send to his parents to hold onto until further notice. However, a lot of Masonโs clothes lookedโฆ well, very similar. It was an autism thing; when he found a piece of clothing he liked, he would basically get variations of it instead of actually new clothing.
โWhich one is better?โ he asked in English, holding up two nearly identical blue plaid flannels for Jamie to choose between. If there was anyoneโs opinion he valued, it was Jamieโs, especially in the visuals department; Mason knew Jamie had that shit down way better than he did.
Jamie's pretty sure he's never been as excited in his life as he is right now. He's bouncing on the balls of his feet, physically unable to contain the excited build-up of energy that feels as though it's about to explode out of him. This is going to take him one step closer to debut, and Mason's going to be there with himโthis is their chance to make it together. As much as Jamie would like to debut with all his friends, at the end of the day, if he has to choose just one, it's always going to be Mason. This feels like it, he can almost taste debut on the very tip of his tongue. He just has to do his absolute best, and make sure both he and Mason make it to the end.
Packing up their dorm, however, feels... odd to Jamie. This is their room, where they'd spent every night almost for the past two and half years, since they first met and moved into their shared room and found out they were literally soulmates. But, as he shoves his newer, nicer, less damaged clothes into a suitcase, trying and failing to fold them, he checks his list of things he needs to pack. He'd gotten Mason to help him write it, since they both knew just how terrible Jamie was at packingโhe'd forget his head if it wasn't screwed on. He'd packed most of the clothes he wanted to takeโalmost all clothes to train in, alongside a couple nicer things just in case there arose a situation he needed them for. But he had to get his toiletries, electronics, chargers, a couple pairs of shoes, and god knows what else.
As Mason asks for Jamie's advice, he doesn't even really bother looking at them, as he knows both look nice on Masonโhe'd seen him in both before. He walks right over and feels each one, rubbing the fabric between his fingers and then picking the one in Mason's right hand. "This one's texture's nicer." He answers, then walks backwards to his bed until his knees hit it and he falls onto his butt beside his suitcase. "This is hard. I can't remember what I've packed and what I haven't." He practically whines, then falls dramatically onto his back, arms outstretched. "I'm excited, but I hate packing."
Formal interview? The mere mention of formal has Jamie sweating. Nothing about Jamie is formal, or even can be formal. This sounds important though, so hoping itโs just a normal review of the evaluation, he puts on his barely worn, only slightly creased shirt and dress pants, brushes his hair, and arrives, surprisingly, right on time. Heโs nervous, and itโs obvious in the way he canโt sit still in the few minutes he sits outside the interview room, waiting to be called. His knees bounce and he rubs his hands up and down his thighs, the repetitive feeling of mild burning as he creates friction between his palms and the material of his pants is surprisingly soothing.ย
Then, after what feels like forever, Jamieโs called into the room and he takes his seat, making a very conscious and sustained effort to stop fidgeting. He plants his feet flat on the ground and wills them not to move for the entirety of the interview. The interview begins with a review of the groupโs overall performance, and instantly Jamie relaxes. It all sounds better than heโd expected to hear, and he canโt keep the smile off his face. Heโd enjoyed their performanceโhad genuinely felt like he was having fun throughout the entire thing, and he was glad that that energy had seeped out into those watching them. The more heโd practised the song, the more he wished he could debut with it, or a song like it. The upbeat sound just felt so right for him. He was filled to the brim with energy, and to be in a group that meant he could let it out like heโd been able to during Beatbox would be truly more than he could hope for.ย
Yet that however kicks the smile off his face and reminds him where he is and what heโs here for. He nods, expression now much more serious as he listens intently. But, then the question is posed to him and Jamie stumbles over his thoughts for a moment, not expecting to be asked to speak. โUh- I had a lot of fun with the performance, actually. It felt like a song that neededโฆ genuine pep to get the energy across to the audience. Butโฆ thereโs always room for improvement.โ Jamie knows heโs nowhere near perfect, but he likes to think that that song had been the perfect fit for him to really show off what heโs good at.ย
The individual results, however, leave Jamie stunned, mouth slightly open for a second, before he clamps it shut and swallows thickly, unsure of how heโs allowed to react. Itโs hard not to smile, though he tries hard to bite it back, when his voice is complimented. If thereโs one thing Jamieโs confident in, and proud of, itโs his voice. Heโs put so much into honing his vocal abilities in the last two and half years, and it seems to be paying off. But then, they start talking about the survival show, and the pressure now on his shoulders. Itโs good to know they think his efforts arenโt going to waste, but now, with eyes so focused on him, he can feel his stomach twist into nervous knots.ย
Weโre aware of your audition to Kiss Studiosโฆ Jamie feels just a tad feint at that, as if theyโre about to scold him for disloyalty. But, the more he listens, the more clear it is that theyโll accept whatever decision he decides to make, and heโs almost certain that, through this conversation, and the assurance that they believe heโs doing well, he has potential, that he just needs to keep working hard, heโd made up his mind to stay at Wonder. His dream isnโt just to debut, he wants to debut with his best friend. He wants to debut with Mason, and if he decides not to stay at Wonder and partake in the survival show, then heโll not debut with him. Heโd known that auditioning may lead to him not debuting with Mason, but then heโd not been sure of his future at Wonderโif the higher ups there even saw potential in him. Now, though, heโs ready to fight to the death for a chance to debut with his best friend, as theyโd always promised each other they would.

There's an element of risk that comes with a decision like this. On one hand, Jamie wants so badly to debut, and yet on the other, auditioning for a group under a company that doesn't know as much about him as his current company is a riskโhe could end up in a group that he hates the concept of, purely because he looked the part, despite what his personality and preferences are. But, this is such a huge opportunity, and Jamie knows that he's not going to get a lot of say in the concept of a group he debuts in no matter where he is. His one greatest desire for debuting, after all, is to debut with Mason. From the moment they'd met they'd known that they wanted to stick together forever; soulmates, Jamie likes to call them.
Mason would want Jamie would go for this though, and they'll be friend no matter whether they're in a group together or not, but he can't help but think that maybe he shouldn't do this. His heart hurts at the mere thought of not debuting with Mason. But, deep down he knows he has to, because he can't put his future on hold for anyone, not even his best friend, as much as he wishes he could. So, he goes about choosing the song he's going to perform, and yet it takes a lot longer than he'd anticipated it would because he can't decide whether he should just sing, or sing and dance, and if he's doing both, how can he do it well enough to showcase how good he is at both?
Eventually, he lands on a song he thinks he can pull off both vocally and dance-wise. Practising it, however, leaves him drained day in and day out. He's not only learning this on his own, but he's got the evaluation to practise, and his solo lessons to take for vocal practise and the variety of other skills he needs to know to be an idol. He finds himself, one evening, sitting on the practise room floor with his head in his hands wondering if he's even cut out for this. His voice might be good, but he's exhausted, and he's so close to just giving up. His whole body hurts, and he's got a headache, and he just wants to cry with frustration because he can't get one of the dance moves to look just right. He's thinking of asking someone for help, but then he worries that no one will because they're all up against each other in this.
Yet, each time he ends up like that, on the floor feeling like this is the end for him, he inevitably gets back up and carries on. It's a constant battle with skills, self-belief, tiredness and sheer willpower, and Jamie feels, sometimes, like someone's taken the plug out and every drop of each inside him is flushed away within seconds. At night he'll crawl into someone's bed, usually Mason's or Niel's, and he'll pass out with his nose pressed into the junction where their neck meets their shoulder, wishing he could just stay there forever, but every morning he has to drag himself out of bed again, back to feeling inadequate as he glares at his reflection in the practise room mirror.
Finally, he's ready to record the audition video though, having planned it all out, perfected the performance, and prayed to whatever god might be out there that he manages to do well. He begins, standing in front of the camera that's set up on a tripod in front of him, by introducing himself. He'd written it all out first, so he didn't forget anything, and goes through everything he'd put down.
"My names Jamie Han, I'm nineteen, and I've been a trainee for almost two and a half years. I was born and raised in San Diego, Californa, and I'm a super good skateboarder. My dream is to become the next best main vocal in kpop!" Maybe it's a little wild to declare his dream as something so high and currently out of his reach, but it's true, he wants to be the best (the very best, like no one ever was). Then, with the remote in his pocket, he presses play on on the speakers across the room to start up his music, getting into his starting position, tying a long piece of fabric around his wrists, and taking a deep, slow breath to prepare himself.
The song is a little out of his usual comfort zone, but then he'd been really trying to branch out a bit recently, go for a more mature vibe sometimesโhe didn't want to be stuck in a box of only doing one thing, that wouldn't help him debut. He needed to be versatile, and so he'd picked a song he really liked, and frankly wanted to pull of badly. So, he'd been trying to see himself as able to be sexy recently, and as he worked into the night on his own, he'd gradually began to feel itโthat he could do this.
And then it begins, from his knees, to his feet, the dance all in the sharp movements contrasting against the slow, perfectly angled ones, and his voice slow and calm, building up until he stands and bites the fabric tie off his wrists and tosses it across the room, eyes locked on the camera as he shows off his voice, then goes into the chorus. It all passes by quickly, and yet he's got laser focus on the small things he needs to do; his expressions, head movements, hand positions, perfect body angles, and the breath support needed to get through both singing and dancing at the same time. It's not easy, and he'd been building his stamina up over the last two years to be able to get to where he is now. He just hopes it's enough.
Then, before he knows it, it's over, and his chest is heaving as he stands in the center of the room, arms out and shoulders rising and falling, the only sound in the room now the sound of his heavy breath. After a moment he lifts his head, straightens his shoulders, and through his heavy breaths he thanks whoever will be watching, bowing and smiling, then switches the camera off with the remote in his other pocket. He could pick apart his performance, go over the recording over and over, but he realises he has to know when to step back and let it be what it is, and he needs to just let it be now. He'd done his bestโfrankly better than he'd ever done before, and he's satisfied, at least for now. Who knows how he'll feel that night when he lays awake and ponders if he twisted his wrist enough at that one point in the song, or if his voice sounded weak on the high notes.

Jamie performs for his evaluation โฆ
๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐: his teammates
Weeks and weeks of practise, and here it is, the day of the evaluation. It had flown by, the practise that took up each and every day revealing more and more to Jamie, over the month, that still had so much room to grow, and develop as a singer. He was nowhere near perfect, nowhere near the level he wanted to one day be, but as they performed their eval song over and over again, and he worked on his breath control, his expressions, his energy levels, he knew this was it for him. There was nothing else Jamie could imagine himself doing. He had to become an idol. He just had to.
Working alongside the other boys had brought them together even more so than they had been before, though Jamie knew, at the end of the day, they were all rivals when it came to debuting. Yet, somehow, Jamie could never look at a few of the boys that way. Taegyeom, he could see being his rival; another vocalist, someone who's just as good as Jamie, who's frankly more handsome than him, taller than him. Taegyeom really did make up for the things Jamie lacked, even if it wasn't in vocals. But with Mason... Jamie could never, and would never see Mason as a rival. He is, and always will be, Jamie's best friend. No one besides Robby knows Jamie the way Mason does, and if he knows he can rely on anyone, he can rely on Mason.
Then, there's Haneul, who frankly Jamie see's as a distraction sometimes. Not in a bad way, and certainly not because of anything he does, it's just Jamie's brain that's at fault there. He can't look at Haneul and not blush sometimes, can't see him smile and not bite back one of his own. So, to put it simply, training had, at times, been difficult for more reasons than the choreography was hard. But, they'd made it here, and as they stand, ready to perform, Jamie looks around at them all and breaks into a grin. Hwan had led then well, Jamie had tried to keep their spirits up the whole time, and finally it's time to show just how good they can be. Because they can be incredibleโJamie's certain of it.
Thank god Hwan starts off the song, his energy carrying them into it, and Jamie, with his back partially to those watching, shoots a smile at the other boys, before they all begin to dance. Then, it's a rush of movement and strong singing. Jamie had practised singing while jogging on the spot to try and keep his voice as stable as possible while moving, had lay on the floor and belted the lyrics to the sky, had done cartwheels while singing scales, and done a handstand while singing the hardest part, just to over-prepare. He never knew when an evaluation could be a way to pick people for the next debut group, and this could be it, so he had to prove he was ready.
Jamie has one line in the start of the song, before the first chorus, but that doesn't matter when he's trying to show that not only is he a good singer, he's a good dancer too. He's a performer, and this is what he was born to do, so he's going to make people take notice. As he's in the center for the first time during the chorus he beams and cheekily winks to the people watching, reminding himself that this should be fun. If he isn't having fun, how can he expect anyone watching to have fun? His energy, he learnt long ago, can be contagious, and so that's why he likes to think he's the mood-maker of the group, always ready to cheer the other boys on and make them forget their worries and feel the music.
Before Jamie knows it, the songs coming to an end, and he picks his energy up just a little bit more, hoping that it will spread throughout the group members, wanting to lift them up, fill them with excitement and hope that this will be the best performance out of all the trainee eval groups. Then, it's over, as quickly is it began, and Jamie's chest is heaving, head spinning, but mouth drawn wide in a bright smile, as though he'd just had the time of his life. No matter how scary it had seemed before it began, he realised he forgot about all that when the music started and his muscle memory kicked in and he could just enjoy it.
After a few seconds, brain still buzzing, Jamie bows with the rest of the group, wondering what feedback they'll receive, and if he did anywhere near as well as he felt like he did. He'd done all he could do, now he just had to see whether he was on the right track, or sorely misguided.
