Rage, it’s not a bad game but DAMN is it disappointing
I really want to talk about this game so here i go.
First off, this game is like getting a Big-Mac and realizing They forgot the condiments. (Ketchup, mayo and mustard), it’s just so damn disappointing. It throws you into a world filled with so much potential. I mean it is oozing with So many potential stories!
I use potential a lot though..for a VERY good reason.
IT’S LACKING ALL THAT.
The game starts off with you leaving “the ark” (not from Brink) and then going into some guy’s buggy and doing quests for him,
You have no name, no backstory.
(Edit, ok upon further research. Your name is “Nicholas raine”)
Just a survivor from “the ark”
Nor does this NPC.
(he has a name though!) I’ve tried to hard to like this game
It has potential for something amazing
But it just comes off as a Borderlands clone. Now it’s not a bad game
But..it’s lacking so much.
First mission is to kill the “ghost” bandits. Ok,
No backstory is given to this gang.
They’re cannibalistic and insane,
So generic mad-max or post apocalyptic gang? Gotcha.
Going back to the gameplay
The world could’ve been amazing
COULD’VE,
It’s empty. With two towns and bandit hideouts.
There’s no day and night cycle.
So enjoy Arizona looking landscape/cliffs mixed with lots of sand.
You can leave your buggy or ATV at any time
But why bother? There’s nothing to see.
It’s empty. With just cliffs and sand.
Unless you want to go into a bandit hideout.
It comes off as a fallout rip-off
Or borderlands clone.
And it’s a damn shame.
There’s not a shitload of guns to collect
You get a throwing disk ️later in the game along with your typical shotgun and assault rifle,
No customization, (maybe for your buggy if I recall?)
Anyway I’ve played about 2 hours of this game total, and after the first level,
It’s hard to trot on.
It’s just dull.
And it feels like the world WANTS you to leave.
Because it doesn’t give you any reason to stay or carry on!!!
The game has horrible texture pop-ins on PC,
Even the DLC is dull. (Sewer missions and something involving the scorcher gang)
But..the shooting is fun,
Enemies react somewhat realistically to the shooting. (If you shoot them in their knee for example. They’ll grab their knee)
Hand to hand combat is really lame
And this game comes from ID software
The famous John Romero studio that brought us quake and doom!
But back to the game,
It gives you no reason to keep playing
Unless you want to meet “the authority” the main bad-guys of the game.
And want to unlock generic weapons.
Or collect “character cards”
You’d be better off playing Borderlands or fallout New Vegas for your desert post apocalyptic romp.
I really want to know what happened,
Am I on earth? An alien planet?
How did the mutants become, mutants?
Well. Unless you want to trudge though the game and find out, go on the Wiki
The game while it may seem enticing.
Just delivers disappointment.
It’s $5 at GameStop right now
But to be honest, I don’t even think it’s worth that.
It’s EXTREMELY linear and it just feels like Incentive to Buy fallout or borderlands.
Bethesda and ID, why?
I want to play RAGE. Not borderlands
I want to experience it’s world and have a unique story.
But im deprived of that.
Try the game if you want (it’s $5)
But you’ll just get a generic shooter with a generic post-apocalypse theme
That feels like an amusement park
You’re not given any character development
And you’re expected to beat the game and move on. Not stay and 100% it.
