The Haunted

It’s definitely beautiful during the day but can be ominous at night. Just make sure to be careful! The gates of hell barn is still standing as far as we know. There’s no telling what’s over there still since we haven’t been up that way in a while. Happy hunting!

The house that I reside in isn’t old or new. The house does creak and pop occasionally, but tonight was particularly eerie. I stepped out of the shower and heard someone downstairs in the kitchen. Knowing the only other person at home was my little sister, Molly, who was supposed to be asleep, i went to check on her in my dad’s room. She was out cold. I shrugged it off and went to get dressed only to hear a girl giggling outside my window. My room is upstairs. It was followed by a boy talking back. I peered out the window and, upon seeing nothing, booked it to my dad’s room. For the next hour I sat in a bedroom full of mirrors while listening to someone walk up and down the hallway. It followed me from room to room. Maybe the hallway ghost followed me all the way from my old house out east.  -M

This is a true story that happened to me and my family the days following April 7. 1961. Living in the house were my mother, my nephew, age 11, and me. My boyfriend would occasionally come to visit from Fort Sill, Oklahoma and would stay the weekend. We married on April 7, 1961 at Perryville, Arkansas. During this time, a day or two after our marriage, we had all gone to bed. Leon and I were still awake and heard someone walking in the hallway. We discussed who it might be. I said, “I guess Billy Wayne got up to get a drink of water.” Leon said, “No, it must be Mama. Billy Wayne would have run”. Well the footsteps continued and stopped in front of our door. I was so scared I felt like screaming. For some reason I pictured my mother standing there with a knife; not being able to stand it anymore I whispered to Leon, “Do you think it was Mama?” He said, “Call her.” I called out “Mama?” She answered from her bedroom totally unaware of what was happening. Billy Wayne was also in bed. Although Leon had heard the footsteps and discussed whose they were he decided to get up and investigate. He said it must have been the T.V. antenna flapping in the wind. Would that sound like footsteps in the hallway that eventually stopped at your door? No way. My mother had heard the footsteps before; she believed it was my father who had died in 1955. After my father’s death we moved back to Texas and then my senior year moved back to the farm in Arkansas. Although this is the only time I heard the footsteps my mother heard them many times. It was very frightening. Leon (now called Vic) and I stopped on the road in front of the farm a couple years ago. The property owner came out and visited with us. I almost asked her if she ever heard footsteps but didn’t. Sure would like to know. - SKR

I don’t know what’s been with all of the doors in my life lately, but they’re really starting to mess with me. In the last few days I’ve had quite a few peculiar instances where doors are not my friends. I’ve already posted about the bathroom door at my work the other day, but the next day I was visiting my dad’s house (the one with the basement shade) when a few weird things happened again. I was the only one in the house when I realized that I had the oddest feeling that someone was up stairs. It feels similar to that feeling when you just know someone is looking at you but you can’t find them. Right after that thought popped into my head I decided I had enough of just sitting inside and waiting for everyone to get home so I was going to go outside when I realized the front door was wide open. This made me stop short because I specifically remember closing and locking the front door after the last person had left the house. Instead of going outside, I closed the door and locked it again because I had the feeling of being watched again. What made this all even creepier was it happened in the middle of the day. After that happened I went upstairs to my sisters room because I was tired and was going to take a nap. I was laying on the bed and the door that was wide open started closing on it’s own. The window wasn’t open, the air conditioning wasn’t even on, there was no draft whatsoever. The door closed a little and then stopped, then a little more and stopped. I was staring at it and it was completely still and then slammed shut like someone had pulled on it. It freaked me out but I tried to ignore it and just went on with my day. Those were the only weird things that seemed to happen on my stay over there last time, but yesterday afternoon in my own apartment, my bathroom door closed by itself as I watched it happen in the mirror. Thankfully I was already on my way out anyway. So I didn’t have to stick around to see what else would happen. - K

Tonight after I turned all the lights in my apartment off, I crawled into bed. I have two cats that rub up against anyone that's near them on a regular basis so when I laid down and felt one brush against my knee it wasn't a big deal. Too bad there was nothing there when I reached down to pet it and my cats were all the way across the room from me, already asleep. - K

Not too long ago, a few of my friends and I were at my dad's house when I needed to go into the basement for something. It was the middle of the night and we had just come back from "causing trouble" in the neighborhood, which really meant we were needlessly harassed by cops for wandering around at night. Anyway, I went to open the door to the basement and all of the sudden I felt like something was on the other side of the door and like I was in danger. I got really freaked out and called A over to stand with me so I wasn't alone. I opened the door slowly but stood behind it so I wouldn't have to look down the dark stairway and she looked instead. Her eyes got really wide and her face got pale before she freaked out and I closed the door before calling our other friend Jordan over so he could go down the stairs first. When Jordan came over and opened the door, the dangerous feeling subsided but it still felt like we were being watched by the shade that lives in the basement. I just hope he stops getting so hostile. - K

The house that Megan, A, and my dad currently live in is in the small town that most of our ghost stories occur in. That house is also haunted by a shade in the basement. Now, this shade will come up the stairs and peek around a corner into the living/dining room/kitchen like he’s spying on you. You can always catch him quickly retreating back behind the corner like he hopes you won’t see him or sometimes he won’t even move when you catch him looking. We’ve all seen this shade multiple times and the only person that can make him go backstairs is Megan’s boyfriend, who (whom?) the shade hates for some reason. This shade has recently started slamming the basement door by itself and coming into the kitchen and ringing some wind chimes that hang in there. An even newer habit that this shade has picked up is when you are running up the basement stairs it runs up after you really fast so there are these really loud stomping foot steps running after you. It’s pretty terrifying. The other night I was at my dad’s and I was writing this very post when I could feel it getting mad about me writing it so I was going to go upstairs so I wasn’t by myself (Megan and my dad were asleep upstairs). So anyway, I bent over to unplug my computer when something let out a really loud sigh in my ear. I jumped up and turned around with my back to the wall. I remember the air in that room was so uncomfortable that I started yelling for my dad until he came down from his room. I left right after that because it wouldn't leave me alone. - K

Back in the Silver apartment, Andy's girlfriend and I were cleansing it. We hadn't cleansed it when we moved in like we probably should have, so it was after a couple of months of living there that we did this. Andy had bought some wood that you burn like sage (balsa wood maybe?) it gave me and his girlfriend a headache and it made Andy and my ex feel like they were getting hugged, but that's a story for another time. Anyway, you always start with the most northern point of your apartment and work your way around. So we started with Andy's room, his bathroom, the living room, kitchen, and then when we made it to my room we felt tense. I remember we both looked at each other with a funny look but we ignored it and kept going. We moved around the room and came to the closet when something really weird happened: the smoke from the wood/incense wouldn't go into the closet. It's like there was an invisible wall that the smoke was bouncing off of. Also, when we got near the closet and tried to get the incense in it, this ridiculous thickness took over the room. Like you couldn't breathe and you could just feel the rage radiating off of something. At that moment in time we put the balsa wood out and left the room. Now, I always used to leave my door open, it wasn't a big deal, but now all of us just wanted the door closed because it felt like something was standing in the doorway watching us. You could feel that we had really pissed something off. I started having dreams about a really large shade crouching in the bottom of my closet. My ex started having scary dreams too and woke up one night because something was choking him in his sleep. Andy's girlfriend and I were trying to figure out what the hell to do. My room wasn't safe to be in anymore, you could still feel whatever it was that was in there even when the closet door was closed. I remember in my dreams there was a man in my closet that had hanged himself in there. I did a tarot card reading about it and the reading was about a young warrior who couldn't handle the requirements of battle and sought a quick demise instead of one in war. Our apartment complex was part of the old Air Force base and for some reason this made complete sense to us. It felt like the man in my room was comfortable with that explanation as well. So after that, Andy's ex and I went and talked to the closet. Yeah, you read that right. We opened the closet door and communicated that we didn't mean to disturb him and that we were very sorry. We weren't trying to get rid of him like he probably thought we were (sage and that wood we burned drives away small stuff but just pisses off the big stuff) and that this was his home and we were just visitors. We told him that if he left us alone, we'd leave him alone. You wouldn't believe the instant change in the atmosphere, it was like someone lifted a lead blanket off of the whole apartment and everything was good again. He went back to just hanging out in the closet and we would talk to him every once in a while when we were in the room. - K

My ex didn't see him at all which was one indicator. When you see ghosts you can feel them as well. Even when you can't see them you can feel a distinct energy. Just like you know how your mom or your best friend smells, does that make sense? You can just tell these energies belong to different "people." A lot of times your body will go on alert as well, like all of your hair will stand up on end or you'll get a really weird or uncomfortable feeling. - K

Back when we used to frequent the abandoned neighborhood, Twin, my ex, and Twin's ex (we'll call her Crayon) took a trip out there one night a little over two years ago or so. It was toward the end of the night that we stumbled across a house we had never been in before. We had seen a couple of creepy things like a door swinging open and shut on its own in the garage of a house, just over and over it went until it flew open and stayed that way. Of course the creepy noises that come with old houses were present throughout the night, but nothing much other than that. The house that we found that I'm talking about now was full of baby stuff. Cribs, car seats, old clothes, everything you could think of was stored in this garage. We had parked in the driveway and looked in through the open garage door at all of the baby stuff in wonder. Twin and I got excited about going in while both of our ex's decided to stay outside by the car. We shrugged it off and walked through the garage and down into the house. The house was one of those that the bottom floor was half-underground so there was a half set of stairs leading down into the house itself. We were very quiet about creeping around this house because we were both getting weird vibes from it. Eventually we made it to the main hallway of the house and all of the doors were shut. We didn't want to open any because it felt wrong to touch them, like knowing someone is on the other side holding the door shut and you just don't want to piss them off. At the very end of the hallway above a door was the opening to the attic. It was closed but we could hear something upstairs. Like someone was moving around, something human sized. We heard the thumps getting closer the the entrance to the attic and decided it was time to get the hell out of there. So Twin and I turned around and quickly went the way we came. When we reached the door to the garage we stopped (Twin was in front of me blocking the whole hallway to the door) and Twin looked over his shoulder and behind us like he had heard or seen something. I was looking straight forward, out the doorway at our ex's standing outside watching us. I remember this moment almost in slow motion, the door slammed shut by itself. I remember the look on my ex and Crayon's faces when the door started to close between us, I remember screaming out some sort of fear-driven "no!" I also remember Twin's head whipping around after the door had shut and he yelled out something about, "What the fuck," or some sort of other confused exclamation. Twin rushed forward and ripped the door open and we ran up the stairs and toward the car where the other two had already gotten into it. We were all breathing heavy and decided it was time to leave because we had had enough of that tonight. - K
