The plan had seemed significantly funnier about three hours ago.
The idea started with Hannahβwhich, in hindsight, should've been your first warning sign.
"Hear me out," she'd said, abandoning her Philosophy textbook entirely to lean across the table toward you and Allie. "You should tell Logan you're excited for the date he planned."
You had frowned. "What date?"
"Exactly."
Across from you, Allie had immediately burst out laughing. For a long moment, you simply stared at the two of them, confused. Then, the realization dawned on you. "Oh, that's evil."
hiii i love the way you write, could u do some cute moments between joe and reader with their baby boy?
awh this is SO sweet, dad joe has genuinely become one of my favourite things to write lately, so yes absolutely <3
i think i wanna make this one more like lots of little moments instead of one big plot? just soft domestic joe and tiny baby chaos pahah

Joeβs terrified of him at first.
In the deeply sincere way of somebody suddenly handed something impossibly tiny and precious and expected to keep it alive forever.
βWhyβs he so small?β Joe whispers roughly six minutes after your sonβs born.
You stare at him exhaustedly from the hospital bed. βJoe, heβs a baby.β
βI know, but-β Joe gestures vaguely toward the sleeping bundle in the nurseβs arms. βHeβs, likeβ¦ really little.β
The nurse laughs softly while bringing him over.
Joe immediately panics.
βNo, no, I donβt-β
βYouβve got him,β you say gently.
Joe looks at you with pure betrayal. βYou canβt say that with confidence when Iβve never held a newborn before.β
Still, he reaches his arms out eventually.
Carefully.
Tentatively.
Like somebody handing him live explosives.
Then the second your son settles against his chest, everything in Joeβs face changes at once.
Gone.
Every ounce of panic.
His entire body softens so fast it almost hurts to look at.
βOh,β he whispers.
Your chest aches instantly.
Because suddenly Joe looks completely overwhelmed by love in a way youβve never seen before. His thumb brushes carefully over your sonβs tiny cheek while his eyes flick constantly over every little feature like he physically canβt believe this baby is real.
βHeβs got your nose,β Joe murmurs quietly.
βHe literally came out ten minutes ago.β
βAnd heβs perfect already.β
You think that might be the moment you realise fatherhoodβs going to ruin Joe emotionally.
The first few weeks are mostly exhaustion.
Sleep deprivation.
Cold coffee.
Laundry.
Tiny cries in the middle of the night.
But underneath all of it sits something warm and soft and almost unbearably lovely.
You wake up one morning to silence.
Which immediately feels suspicious.
The flat glows gold with early sunlight while you shuffle sleepily into the living room still wrapped in one of Joeβs hoodies.
Then you stop.
Joeβs asleep in the rocking chair.
Your sonβs tucked against his chest in one of those ridiculous baby carriers Joe spent three hours figuring out how to use because βthe instructions were emotionally aggressive.β
Both of them are dead asleep.
Joeβs head tipped back awkwardly against the chair while one large hand rests protectively over the babyβs back even unconscious.
Your sonβs tiny fist is tangled in the collar of Joeβs t-shirt.
Something in your chest physically folds in on itself.
God.
You donβt think youβve ever loved anyone the way you love them.
Joe stirs slightly at the sound of your movement, blinking blearily up at you.
ββ¦hey.β
βYou fell asleep.β
Joe looks down immediately like he forgot the baby was there.
Then, softer, βOh.β
You laugh quietly. βYou say that every time.β
βHeβs still kinda surprising.β
Your son makes a tiny sleepy noise against Joeβs chest.
Joe melts instantly.
Actually melts.
βOh my god,β he whispers, horrified and emotional all at once. βDid you hear that?β
βYouβre obsessed with him.β
Joe looks at you like thatβs the stupidest statement ever made.
βObviously.β
The first time your son laughs, Joe nearly cries.
Which would be less embarrassing if he wasnβt laughing at something objectively stupid.
Youβd been trying all week to get a proper laugh out of him.
Funny voices.
Peek-a-boo.
Little toys.
Nothing worked.
Then Joe walks into the kitchen one afternoon holding laundry and accidentally smacks directly into the doorframe.
Not hard.
Just enough to make him yelp, βJesus Christ-β
And suddenly your son bursts into hysterical baby laughter from his highchair.
You freeze.
Joe freezes.
The baby laughs harder.
βOh my god,β you whisper.
Joe drops the laundry instantly.
βNo way.β
He walks closer cautiously like approaching a nervous animal.
βBuddy?β
Your son looks directly at him.
Joe lightly bumps his forehead against the cabinet dramatically.
Another delighted squeal of laughter.
Joeβs face completely crumbles.
βOh, Iβm funny?β he says emotionally. βYou think Iβm funny?β
Youβre laughing too hard to speak properly by this point.
For the next week, Joe keeps pretending to walk into things just to hear him laugh again.
It works every time.
By six months old, your sonβs favourite thing in the world is Joeβs hair.
Which would be cute if he didnβt yank it with the grip strength of a grown man.
βOw,β Joe says flatly one evening from the sofa. βOw. Assault.β
The baby giggles happily from Joeβs lap while both fists remain tangled firmly in his curls.
You barely glance up from your book anymore. βHe likes you.β
βHeβs trying to scalp me.β
Your son gives another aggressive tug.
Joe winces dramatically.
βOh my god, buddy. I need that.β
Still, he makes absolutely no attempt to move him.
If anything, he just shifts him higher against his chest while the baby continues grabbing fistfuls of curls with complete delight.
βYou know,β you say casually, βmost people would put him down.β
Joe looks horrified.
βHeβs bonding with me.β
βHeβs using you like a stress toy.β
Joe presses a kiss against the babyβs head anyway.
βYeah,β he says softly. βI know.β
Around two in the morning, neither of you can figure out why he wonβt stop crying.
Youβve checked everything.
Nappy.
Bottle.
Temperature.
Teething.
Nothing works.
Your son just keeps crying miserably against Joeβs shoulder while the kitchen glows dim and soft around all three of you.
Joe sways gently beside the counter, exhaustion written into every inch of him.
βYou think he hates me?β he asks quietly after twenty straight minutes of crying.
You stare at him.
βJoseph.β
βIβm serious.β
βHeβs a baby.β
βHeβs a baby with opinions.β
Despite the joke, you can hear the genuine worry underneath it.
Joeβs been like this since the second your son was born. Every cry feels personal somehow. Like if he canβt fix it immediately, heβs failed.
You step closer carefully then, smoothing one hand gently down his back.
βHey.β
Joe looks at you immediately.
βHe doesnβt hate you.β
Your son hiccups sadly against his chest.
Joeβs whole expression caves in.
βI just wish I knew what he needed.β
The vulnerability in his voice nearly kills you.
You reach up carefully and brush tired curls away from his forehead.
βYou know what he needs right now?β
Joe shakes his head slightly.
βYou.β
Something soft breaks open across his face.
Then your son lets out one final sleepy sigh before settling suddenly against Joeβs chest.
Both of you freeze.
Silence.
Joe looks down slowly.
ββ¦youβve gotta be kidding me.β
You burst out laughing immediately.
βHe just wanted cuddles.β
βI have BEEN cuddling him.β
Your son snores softly.
Joe looks deeply offended by this development.
Then quieter, staring down at him, βI didnβt know I could love somebody this much and still survive it.β
Your chest aches instantly.
You lean forward and kiss him softly beneath the dim kitchen lights while your son sleeps between you both.
Joe kisses you back carefully, one hand still rubbing absentminded circles against the babyβs back.
Never really stopping.
The first time your son says dada, Joe stops functioning properly.
βDada,β the baby says proudly from the living room floor, surrounded by blocks.
Complete silence follows.
Joe stares at him.
Your son grins.
βDada!β
Joe looks at you with genuine panic.
βDid he just-β
βYes.β
βOh my god.β
Your son claps for himself excitedly.
Joe looks seconds away from tears.
βYou know heβs probably just making sounds, right?β you tease gently.
βNo,β Joe says immediately. βHe meant it.β
βJoe-β
βHe knows me.β
You laugh helplessly while Joe scoops the baby straight off the floor and into his arms.
βSay it again,β he whispers hopefully.
Your son grabs his nose.
βDada.β
Joe actually chokes slightly.
βOh, Iβm done for,β he mutters emotionally into the babyβs curls.
You donβt think youβve ever seen anybody so happy.
Later that night, your son sleeps between you both in bed after refusing to settle in his cot.
One tiny hand curled into Joeβs t-shirt.
The other clutching your finger.
The room glows silver-blue in the moonlight while the baby breathes softly between you.
Joeβs been staring at him for nearly ten straight minutes.
βYou okay?β you whisper sleepily.
Joe nods once without looking away.
Then, quietly, βCan you believe we made him?β
Your chest tightens immediately.
You look down at your sonβs sleepy little face. Joeβs curls. Your nose. Tiny hands. Tiny breaths.
A whole person.
Made from both of you.
βNo,β you whisper honestly. βNot really.β
Joe finally looks over at you then, eyes soft and tired and so full of love it almost hurts.
βI think this might be the happiest Iβve ever been.β
You kiss him softly in the dark before settling closer beneath the blankets.
Joeβs hand finds yours automatically over the babyβs stomach.
And somewhere between the quiet breathing, tangled sheets, and the way Joe keeps looking at both of you like you hung the moon personally, you realise this is probably what loveβs supposed to feel like.

warnings just making out lol
enjoy!
You woke slowly to the feeling of Joeβs hand resting against your stomach, his face buried into the pillow beside yours.
For a second neither of you moved.
The room was quiet except for the ceiling fan and distant waves from the nearby beach.
Joe opens his eyes first, still half asleep, looking at you through messy curls.
βYouβre awake,β he murmurs, voice thick of sleep.
βMmm, so are you.β
He shifts closer automatically, arm pulling you against him until your legs tangled together beneath the sheets.
The sunlight coming through the curtains paints soft gold across his skin.
He looks peaceful like this. Different from the version of him everybody else knew.Β
Just Joe, warm and sleepy, now with a little tan from all the sun, holding you like he doesnβt really know how not to.
Outside, Rio is already alive.
You can hear music faintly from the street below and the rush of traffic along the coast.
Joe presses a bunch of lazy kisses against your shoulder, making you chuckle lightly.
βWhat do you want to do today?β he asks quietly.
βYou promised me a full beach day.β
βIΒ didΒ promise that.β He smiles back.
βNo phones, or unexpected phone calls Mr.β You utter as you push his chest with your index finger.
He smiled lazily against your skin. βBossy.β
βYou love it.β
βI really do.β
An hour later the two of you step out onto the Copacabana beach front together, sunlight already reflecting off the ocean so brightly it almost hurt your eyes.
Joe keeps one hand low on your back while you walk.
People pass by constantly.Β
Runners, tourists, beach vendors, locals carrying surfboards under their arms.Β
Joe is wearing his dark sunglasses and an open linen shirt over his swim trunks, curls damp from the shower still falling around heβs decided heβs growing it out.
You notice people recognising him almost immediately.
A few double takes, whispers, someone nudging their friend.
Joe notices too, but he stays relaxed beside you, fingers brushing yours every few seconds as you walk toward the sand.
The beach stretches endlessly ahead, crowded with umbrellas and sun chairs and bodies shining under the heat.
βWow.β Joe utters softly as he looks out at the water.Β
The ocean looks impossibly blue.
Thenβ¦
βCadeira? Guarda sol? Cold beer? Caipirinha?β
Three different beach sellers approach at once, all talking over each other while balancing chairs and umbrellas under their arms. One of them looks directly at Joe and immediately grinned.
βGringo,β he laughs.
Another recognises him two seconds later.
βStranger Things!β
Joe freezes beside you with the most guilty expression imaginable, like heβd personally caused the interaction.
You try not to laugh while another vendor starts gesturing toward empty beach chairs farther down the sand.
βGood price for famous couple.β
Joe looks at you helplessly. βDid he just call us famous?β
βI think so.β
βOh God.β
The man keeps talking quickly in Portuguese while Joe nods along as if heβs understanding a single word heβs saying.
Then Joe confidently answers, βNΓ£oβ¦ obrigada?β
The vendor blinks.
You burst out laughing instantly.
βWrong gender baby,β you whisper.
Joe looks horrified. βWhat do you mean wrong gender?β
βYou just called yourself a woman.β
βHow was I supposed to know Portuguese is gendered?β
βIt literally sounds gendered.β
The vendors begin laughing now too, mostly at Joeβs painfully American accent as he attempts to recover.
βDesculpa,β he tries carefully. βSem cadeira.β
The pronunciation comes out unbelievably awkward.
You physically have to look away because youβre laughing too hard now.
One of the older vendors smiles at both of you sympathetically before switching to broken English.
βNo chairs?β
You answer quickly in your own disaster mix of Portuguese and Spanish.
βNΓ£o, obrigada, maybe later.β
Joe looks over at you immediately. βThat was good.β
βIt was not.β
βThink it was significantly better than mine.β
The vendors eventually move on after friendly goodbyes, though one points at Joe while walking away and calls out another cheerful βgringos!β
You find a quieter spot nearer to the shoreline and dropped your things into the sand. Joe pulls his shirt over his head before laying back onto his towel immediately, eyes closing.
βBaby, youβre already burning,β you smile down at him.
βThatβs impossible. Weβve been here thirty seconds.β He reasons.
βYouβre literally pink.β
Joe cracks one eye open. βHm, I donβt feel it.β
You sit beside him laughing quietly.
The warmth settles over both of you slowly. Joe reaches for your hand without opening his eyes.
You stay like that for a while.
Listening to waves.
Watching people move along the shoreline.
Every now and then you notice phones pointed in your direction. Not obviously, but enough. Someone walking past filming casually.A girl pretending to take a selfie while angling the camera toward Joe.
You could always tell when people recognised him because they started lingering nearby a little too long.
Joe notices too eventually.
βYou see that?β he murmurs quietly, eyes now open behind his sunglasses.
βMhm.β
A group nearby is definitely filming now.
Joe sighs softly before turning his head toward you. βYou okay?β
βYeah.β
βYou sure?β
You nod. βAs long as they donβt come over.β
He sits up slightly then, reaching over to brush hair away from your face.
βThey wonβt.β
The way he says it makes you believe him immediately. Protective as always.
Joe leans forward and kisses you softly.
The ocean breeze moves through his brown curls as he pulls back slightly, forehead resting against yours for a second.
βYou wanna swim?β he asks.
You smile now with a nod as you pushed back some of the now damp hair that sticks to his forehead. βYeah.β
The sand burns beneath your feet as you walk toward the water together.
The second the waves hit your legs, Joe inhales sharply.
βOh-fuck itβs cold.β He whispers.
You laughed as another wave crashed against both of you.
You squeal as the water nearly topples you over, holding onto Joes arm for stability.
βI got you baby.β He murmurs next to as he drags you further in.
The water feels perfect once you get properly in, warm against your skin beneath the sunlight.
Joe moves closer, hands settling naturally on your waist underwater as you wrap your arms around his neck.
Around you, people swim and shout and splash in the waves, but everything feels strangely distant.
Joe looks down at you with that soft expression he gets sometimes when he forgets people are around.
βYou look really pretty today,β he states quietly with his big eyes.
βYouβve said that like three times today.β You manage to giggle back.
βBecause you do.β
βThank you baby.β You smile shyly.
The next wave hits harder than expected, making you stumble slightly. Joe laughs immediately, catching you before you lose balance completely.
βCβmere.β
Before you can react properly, he lifts you easily, your legs wrapping around his waist automatically.
You laugh against his shoulder while he holds you above the water.
βThere,β he says proudly. βProtected.β
βThinkΒ someoneΒ just wanted an excuse to carry me.β
βObviously.β He rolls his eyes.
The ocean moves around both of you gently. Joeβs hands rests securely against your thighs beneath the water while you play with the curls damp against the back of his neck.
He looks ridiculously beautiful in the sunlight.
Wet hair pushed back, skin glowing warm from the heat, eyes nearly golden under the sun, with his chain reflecting off the sun and water.
You kiss him softly.
Joe kisses you back slower this time with a groan, smiling slightly against your mouth when another wave splashes against both of you.
Somewhere nearby you hear people reacting quietly, probably filming again.
Whatever.
But Joe barely seems to notice anymore, his attention stays completely on you.
When you eventually walk back onto the sand, Joe drops onto the towel beside you with a groan.
βIβm exhausted.β
βPoor baby.β You pout whilst rummaging for the sunscreen in your beach bag.
βSit up.β You state.
Joe looks over immediately groaning. βAm I burnt?β
βYes.β You laugh.
βHow bad?β
Instead of responding, you just place your hand on hisΒ veryΒ warm shoulder, waiting for him to flinch with the sensitivity.
βOkay-okay! Ouch baby.β He winces as you grimace, moving closer to him.
He now sits between your legs while you squeeze sunscreen into your hands.
The second your fingers touch his shoulders, he relaxes completely.
You rub sunscreen slowly across his back and shoulders while he sits there quietly, head tilted slightly back against your stomach like a little boy.
A few minutes later he turns around to face you when you let out a sigh.
βWhat?βΒ
βYou missed part of your face earlier silly.β You mutter softly, touching the side of his face.
Joe smiles lazily. βYou gonna fix it?β
You shift closer without thinking as he turns, you push him down onto his towel, straddling his lap so you could reach properly.
Joeβs hands settle automatically on your thighs.
The beach noise around you blurs together softly while you rub sunscreen carefully across his cheeks and nose.
He watches you the entire time, not even trying to hide it.
βWhat?β you ask eventually, smiling a little.
βNothing.β
βYouβre staring.β
βI know.β
His fingertips move absentmindedly against your legs.
You can feel the warmth of his skin beneath your hands, smell saltwater and sunscreen and the ocean lingering between both of you.
One of his hands slides gently against your waist as he tilts his head back slightly so you can reach his forehead.
While you begin to rub sunscreen across the area, you notice his curls immediately falling back down into the way again from the ocean water.
βStay still,β you murmur.
Joeβs hands rest lazily on your thighs again while he looks up at you from beneath the sunlight.
βHuh?β He hums confused.
You lean back slightly, reaching into your beach bag beside the towel until your fingers find one of your turtle shell headband tangled between your tanning oil and sunglasses.
Joe watches you quietly the entire time.
The second you move back toward him, he already tilts his head forward a little for you without even asking what you were doing.
You smile softly at that.
Carefully, you push the damp curls away from his forehead with your headband.
Joe doesnβt complain once. Doesnβt even question it.
He just sits there with his hands warm against your waist, letting you fuss over him while the ocean moves behind both of you.
βThere,β you say quietly.
Joe looks up at you through half closed eyes. βAm I beautiful now?β
βYou look ridiculous.β
βBut beautiful?β
You laugh softly. βSo beautiful baby.β
He grins immediately, still wearing the headband in his hair like he had absolutely no intention of taking it out, and it strangely suits him.
Later, a woman carrying bikinis over one arm stops beside your towels
βBiquΓni, linda?β she asks with a smile.
You sit up immediately, brushing sand off your legs while Joe looks over from beside you, sunglasses low on his nose.
The bikinis are actually really pretty. Tiny beaded ones, crochet ones, bright colors catching in the sunlight.
You pick one up uncertainly. βMuito bonita,β you attempt carefully.
The woman starts speaking quickly in Portuguese and your expression blanks halfway through listening, panic immediately creeping in.
βMaybeβ¦ pequeno? No, wait. Pequena?β you try, holding up the bikini top helplessly.
Joe laughs quietly beside you, one hand resting against your thigh as he sits up.
βYouβre creating entirely new languages right now.β
βIβm trying my best.β
The woman smiles politely while showing you another bikini, pale blue with tiny beads along the straps.
Before you can even properly look at it, Joe points immediately.
βThat one.β
You glance over at him. βReally?β
βYeah.β
βYou only like it because itβs tiny.β
Joe smiles lazily from behind his sunglasses. βMaybe.β
You roll your eyes, holding it against yourself anyway while the woman nods enthusiastically.
Joe stares for a second too long.
βWhat?β you ask.
βYouβd look really pretty in that.β
The way he says it is so casual and soft that it catches you off guard a little.
His hand slides slowly along your leg while he keeps looking at you like youβre the only thing on the entire beach worth paying attention to.
You look back down at the bikini quickly to hide the fact youβre smiling.
βHow much?β you ask the woman in English first before attempting Portuguese again. βQuanto custa?β
Joe looks genuinely impressed at your very broken Portuguese.
The woman answers quickly and you immediately look at Joe. βNo idea.β
He laughs softly.
The woman ends up showing the price on her phone instead and you shake your head instantly.
βThatβs expensive.β
Joe takes the bikini gently from your hands, looking at it for another second before looking back at you.
βIβm buying it for you.β
βYou are not.β
βI am.β
βJoe.β
He smiles a little. βBabyβ¦cβmon.β
βYou donβt need to buy me bikinis.βYou reason.
βI know.β His thumb brushes slowly against your knee. βI want to.β
The woman is definitely listening now with the most entertained expression ever while Joe reaches for his wallet anyway.
βYouβre impossible,β you mutter.
βYou love me.β
Unfortunately, he sounds very confident saying it too.
A minute later the woman hands over the little bag and Joe passes it to you proudly like heβs just accomplished something important.
βThere.β He states.
βYou didnβt have to do thatβ¦but thank you.β You look at him, leaning in to peck his lips.
Joe laughs softly kissing you back, leaning closer until his shoulder presses against yours.
βYouβre wearing it tomorrow.β
βWeβll see.β
βNo,β he says, smiling as he looks at you properly again. βYou really will look beautiful in it.β
The beach starts getting quieter later in the afternoon.
The sunlight turns softer, warmer, casting everything in gold while music drifts faintly from somewhere farther down the shore.Β
Youβre sitting cross legged on the towel beside Joe, trying to braid your damp hair away from your face while he lazily flips through settings on his film camera.
A few people still glance over occasionally, recognising him, but most of the beach has settled into that sleepy evening calm.
Then an older woman walking along the shoreline slows near your towels.
Sheβs carrying sandals in one hand, smiling already before she even speaks.
βCasal bonito,β she says warmly.
You blink for a second before realizing what she means.
Pretty couple.
Joe looks over at you immediately. βWhatβd she say?β
βI think she just called us a pretty couple.β
Joe smiles instantly.
The woman keeps talking in soft, rapid Portuguese while gesturing between both of you affectionately.
You try your best to answer.
βObrigada,β you say carefully, smiling back at her.Β
Joe glances at you with visible surprise. βOkay wait, where was that earlier?β
βIβm adapting.β
The woman laughs softly before switching into gentle broken English.
βYou two very lovely together,β she says.
Your face warms immediately.
Joe, meanwhile, looks completely gone already.
The woman keeps smiling at both of you. βVery much love,β she says, pressing her hand dramatically to her chest.
You laugh quietly, a little embarrassed now. βThank you.β
βSheβs right,β Joe says softly from beside you.
You glance over.
Heβs already lifting the film camera toward you.
βJoe.β
βWhat?β
βYou donβt need photographic evidence of this interaction.β
But heβs barely listening anymore.
Because the older woman says something else in Portuguese that you only half understand, reaching over to touch your arm gently while smiling at you both.
And Joe just looks completely in awe watching you try to answer her.
Your broken Portuguese.
The way you keep laughing nervously halfway through sentences.
The sunlight catching against your now sunkissed skin and hair while the ocean moves behind you.
Click.
You look over immediately.
βDid you just take a picture?β
Joe lowers the camera slightly, smiling to himself. βYeah.β
βYouβre unbelievable.β
The woman notices and laughs warmly. βAhh,β she says knowingly, pointing at Joe. βApaixonado.β
Joe looks at you instantly. βWhat does that mean?β
You hesitate.
The woman answers for you with a grin.
βIn love.β
Joe goes strangely quiet for a second after that. Still looking at you.
The older woman waves goodbye a minute later, continuing her walk down the beach while both of you watch her disappear into the crowd.
Then you look back at Joe. Heβs still holding the camera loosely in his hands, staring at you with the softest expression youβve seen all day.
βWhat?β you ask quietly.
βYouβre so beautiful baby.β He smiles.
You just cover your face in embarrassment and chuckle.
His thumb brushes along the side of the camera absentmindedly while he keeps looking at you.
Then he lifts it again.
You laugh immediately. βJoe.β
βOne more.β He reasons moving your hands away from your face.
βYou already took like fifty.β
βAnd Iβll take fifty more.β
The camera clicks again while youβre still smiling at him.
βI think this mightβve been my favourite day weβve had in a long time,β he says softly.
βYeah?β You just smile back giddily, looking up at him.
The way he says it feels so sweet and honest enough to make your chest ache a little.
βGod youβre so cute baby.β You utter at him now, moving closer to take the camera out of his hand to kiss him.
βI love you.β He murmurs lips touching yours.
"I love you too.β You whisper back, playing with the ends of his hair.

no crazy warnings, just fluff and touchy joe with some kissing.
enjoy!
You and the group had landed early that morning, dragging suitcases through the airport, half asleep and slightly delirious, all of you running on festival energy and last minute decisions from the night before.Β
With that, Joe isΒ barelyΒ awake.
Heβs got his favourite Boston cap pulled low, hood up over it, sunglasses on, and heβs leaning into you as you walk, his head tipping slightly toward yours, shoulder brushing yours every few steps.
But still, your hands are linked.
βYouβre actually asleep,β you mumble, glancing at him.
βIβm not,β he says, voice rough, not convincing at all.
βYouβre literally walking into me.β
βOn purpose.β
βWhy?β
βWarm,β he mutters.
You laugh softly, squeezing his hand. βYouβre funny.β
βMm.β
He doesnβt elaborate.
Just tightens his hold on you slightly as you make your way toward baggage claim.
The carouselβs already going when you get there, people gathered around it, watching their bags circle like itβs the most important thing in the world.
Joe doesnβt move to the front.
He just stays behind the line with you, shifting closer until heβs basically leaning on you completely now with his head dipping for a second like he might actually fall asleep standing up.
βJoeβ¦baby,β you say, nudging him lightly with your shoulder.
βYeah?β
βStay conscious.β
βI am.β
βYouβre not.β
He huffs a quiet laugh, eyes still hidden behind his sunglasses. βIβm trying so hard.β
Your suitcase comes around.
You spot it first, stepping forward slightly but Joeβs already moving before you can say anything.
Still half asleep, but he lets go of your hand just long enough to grab it off the belt, pulling it down with one easy motion.
Then heβs back, dropping the handle into your hand before slipping his fingers back through yours like itβs automatic.
βThank you,β you say.
He just nods, leaning into you again, head tipping slightly toward yours.
You reach up without thinking, brushing your fingers lightly along his cheek.
βPoor baby,β you tease softly.
He turns his face into your hand for half a second with a small pout.
His suitcase rolls past but neither of you notices.
βJoe.β
βMm?β
βYour bag.β
βOh.β
He straightens slightly, just enough to grab it as it comes around again, dragging it back over with minimal effort before settling right back into your space.
You shake your head, smiling.
βHopeless.β
βYeah.β
The walk toward the exit is quicker now.
You can feel it before you see it, the shift in energy, the noise picking up slightly and loads of people lingering near the doors.
Joe straightens a little more now.
His hand tightens around yours, and he subtly shifts so heβs slightly in front of you as you get closer.
βStay with me,β he murmurs.
βI am.β
The doors slide open, revealing a swarm of people shouting almost immediately.
Phones come up almost instantly.
βJoe!β
βOh my god hi!β
βCan we get a picture?β
Joe exhales softly, but thereβs no annoyance in it.
His hand squeezes yours once before he gently pulls you slightly behind him, positioning himself between you and the crowd without making it obvious.
βHey,β he says, stepping forward just enough. βYeah, of course.β
He doesnβt let go of you completely.
Your hand stays tucked behind him, his thumb brushing lightly over your knuckles.
It starts quickly.
The photos, smiles and quick half conversations.
Heβs warm and patient, even though he still looks half asleep answering people, thanking them, leaning in for pictures.
Thenβ
βHiβsorryβcan Iββ
You look up.
A girl, a little nervous, phone in hand.
Sheβs looking atΒ you.
βCan I get a photo with you?β she asks.
You blink.
βMe?β
She nods quickly. βYeah, if thatβs okay.β
You glance at Joe instinctively.
Heβs already looking at you, a small smile pulling at his mouth like heβs just as surprised but also not.
βGo on,β he murmurs.
You turn back to her, smiling. βYeah, of course.β
She lights up immediately, stepping closer.
Joe shifts slightly to the side, giving you space but not moving far still right there, still close enough that his arm brushes yours.
You lean in for the photo, smiling naturally as she takes it.
βThank you so much,β she says quickly after, lowering her phone. βYouβre so beautiful, by the way.β
You pause for a second, caught off guard.
βOhβthank you,β you say, a little softer. βSo are you!.β
She smiles again, clearly a bit nervous, then glances at Joe.
βAnd you guys are really cute.β
Joe lets out a quiet laugh at that.
You feel his hand brush yours again.
βThanks,β he says easily.
She says goodbye, moving back into the crowd.
And youβre left standing there, still processing slightly.
βThat was new,β you say under your breath.
βYeah,β Joe replies.
You glance at him. βPeople donβt usually ask me.β
βThey should.β
You snort. βShut up.β
βIβm serious.β
He looks at you properly now.
Still sleepy.
But thereβs something softer there. Proud, almost.
βYou handled that well baby,β he adds.
βI said thank you.β You reason.
βExactly.β
You shake your head, smiling despite yourself.
βCome on,β you say. βBefore more people show up.β
βYeah,β he nods.
β
Lollapalooza was still in full swing, and Joe was already being pulled straight into rehearsal the second you got in.
Youβd tag along for part of it, standing off to the side, watching him run through things, the stage bigger than it looked on screen.
Crew members moving around, adjusting cables, calling things out in quick Portuguese. The sun hits everything harshly, but once Joe stepped under the lights, it was a different kind of heat entirely.
Heβd been focused, quieter than usual, but every now and then heβd glance over at you like he needed to check you were still there.
He grabs his guitar, rolling his shoulders once like heβs settling into it.
He runs through a few chords, sounds echoing out into the empty space. Someone from the crew adjusts something, giving him a thumbs up.
βCould you turn down my in ears please.β He calls out politely, tapping his ear.
Then he glances over straight at you.
You raise an eyebrow, already smiling.
He smirks slightly, then leans into the mic.
βTesting,β he says casually. βOne, twoββ
Then, quieter, like itβs not meant for the whole stage
βYou good over there?β
You laugh, shaking your head. βIβm fine.β
One of the crew guys looks between you both, confused, but Joe just keeps going like nothing is happening.
βCool,β he utters into the mic. βJust checking.β
You roll your eyes, but you canβtΒ Β stop smiling.
He starts playing properly then, running through part ofΒ Roddy, but every so often, his attention drifts. A quick glance in your direction, like he needs that anchor.
At one point, he stops mid run.
βActually, wait,β he begins, stepping back from the mic. βCome here for a second.β
You blink. βWhat?β
βCome here.β He repeats, summoning you with his index and middle finger.
You hesitate at first, then walk closer, stopping just at the edge of the stage.
βWhat?β you repeat.
Heβs crouching slightly, resting his forearms on his knees, looking down at you.
βHow does it sound?β he asks full of pride.
βGood,β you mumble, trying not to boost his ego.
βJust good?β
βYouβre sweaty already.β
βThatβs not what I asked baby.β
βHot though,β you add, shrugging.
He lets out a short laugh, shaking his head. βYouβre unbelievable.β
βJust being the supportive girlfriend I am.β
βYouβre distracting.β
βAnd yetΒ youΒ called me over.β
βYeah, thatβs on me.β
You smile, stepping back again. βGet back to work dork.β
He watches you go for a second longer than necessary.
Then stood up again, adjusting his guitar.
β
Afterwards, though, everything loosened again.
The rest of the group disappeared pretty quickly, someone mentioned food with Wes loudly insisting he needed both and plans split off in every direction.
You ended up back outside with Joe, the afternoon sun still high, neither of you really in a rush to go anywhere.
The noise and constant movement, like the city doesnβt really pause for anything, and you either keep up or get swallowed by it.
Youβve got one of Joeβs capsΒ Β pulled low, sunglasses on, and a Brazil football top tied slightly at the waist. Joeβs wearing the same one, his hanging looser, sleeves rolled up, sunglasses doing absolutely nothing to make him less recognisable.
You clock that immediately.
βYou know this was a bad idea,β you say as you walk down the street, fingers loosely laced with his.
βWhat was?β he asks, glancing at you.
βThe matching shirts.β
He looks down at himself, then back at you. βWhat? Itβs a good shirt.β
βItβs a very good shirt. Thatβs not the point.β
βWhatβs the point?β
βThe point is people are going to notice us from a mile away.β
βUs?β he raises an eyebrow.
βYou,β you correct quickly. βYouβre the problem.β
He laughs under his breath, squeezing your hand slightly. βYou agreed to it.β
βI didnβt think it through.β
βClearly.β
You bump your shoulder into his. βDonβt get cocky.β
βIβm not cocky,β he says. βIβm right.β
βYouβre annoying.β
βMmm, you like it.β
You donβt answer that.
But you donβt let go of his hand either.
You turn the corner, scanning the shops, and then something catches your eye. A small vintage store tucked between two louder storefronts, slightly hidden, racks visible through the glass.
βOoo, there,β you say, pointing.
Joe follows your gaze. βThat one?β
βYeah.β
He squints. βLooks interesting.β
βExactly why itβs good.β
He lets you pull him toward it, your hands still linked, his thumb brushing lightly over your knuckles as you walk.
βYou survived rehearsal, by the way,β you add, glancing at him.
βBarely,β he exhales. βItβs so hot on stage. I donβt know how Iβm supposed to function.β
βOh Iβm sure youβll be fine.β
βI was sweating through everything.β
βSuper hot,β you mumble immediately.
He turns his head, giving you a look over his sunglasses.Β
βWhat? Iβm boosting your confidence.β You smirk.
βBy calling me sweaty?β
βBy calling you hot.β
He shakes his head, smiling slightly.
Before he can say anything else, someone approaches.
βSorry, are you Djo?β
Joe sighs softly under his breath, already nodding. βYeah, hi.β
You step back automatically, letting go of his hand so they can take a picture.
It happens fast. It always does.
A quick photo, a thank you, a compliment, and then theyβre gone.
Joe turns back to you immediately.
βSee?β you say. βThe shirts.β
He shrugs. βCouldβve been anything.β
Another person approaches.
Then another.
You donβt even say anything this time, you just give him a look.
He smiles, slightly apologetic but not surprised.
βTwo minutes,β he murmurs to you.
βTake your time baby,β you say lightly, but youβre already stepping aside again.
You watch him for a second.
The way he switches so easily, kind, patiently taking photos, making conversation like it doesnβt cost him anything.
You canβt even be annoyed.
When he finally makes his way back to you, he reaches for your hand again without hesitation.
βSorry,β he says.
βYou say that like I didnβt warn you.β You reply.
βOh, you did.β
βRepeatedly.β
βStill sorry.β
You smile a little. βStop apologising, itβsΒ Β fine.β
He studies your face for a second, like heβs checking if you actually mean it.
Then nods.
βAlright,β he says, squeezing your hand. βLetβs go before it happens again.β
You push open the door to the shop.
A small bell rings above you.
Inside is packed with racks overflowing, denim, dresses, random pieces hanging off hooks like theyβve been there forever. It smells like old fabric.
Joe steps in behind you, looking around.
You drop his hand as you move toward a rack, already flipping through clothes.
βDonβt wander too far,β he says.
You glance back at him. βWhy, youβll miss me?β
βYeah,β he says easily.
That catches you slightly off guard.
You try to play it off, turning back to the rack. βYouβre clingy today.β
βYouβre the one dragging me around.β
βYouβreΒ soΒ enjoying it.β
He doesnβt deny it.
You pull out a couple of things, a skirt, a top, something youβre not even sure about, and hold them up against yourself in the mirror.
Joe watches from a few steps away, arms crossed loosely.
βThoughts for Coachella maybeβ¦if we decide to go?β you ask, turning slightly with a smile.
βTry it on.β
βThatβs not a thoughtΒ sir.β
βItβs a direction.β
βYouβre bossy.β You utter.
βJust helping.β He smiles.
You roll your eyes with a huff but head toward the changing area anyway.
The curtain barely closes properly, but you make it work.
You change quickly, then step out, doing a small spin.
βWell?β
Joe looks up.
And this time he doesnβt answer straight away.
βWoah, yeah,β he says slowly. βThatβs good.β
βJust good?β
He steps a little closer. βBetter than good.β
βBetter?β You grin, disappearing back behind the curtain to change again.
A few outfits later, youβre laughing more, getting more comfortable, stepping out without even thinking twice.
Each time, his eyes linger a little longer and each time, his comments get a little less casual.
At some point, he disappears.
You donβt notice until he comes back holding something.
βWhatβs that?β you ask.
βTry it.β
He hands it to you.
Itβs a dress.
An olive green, somewhat fitted yet still flowy dress. Very beautiful nonetheless.
You raise an eyebrow. βYou picked this?β
βYeah.β
βInteresting.β
βYouβll look good in it.β
βOh yeah? I donβt know, donβt really have an occasion for it.β You smile.
βJust try it.β
You take it, brushing past him slightly as you head back behind the curtain.
βDonβt get your hopes up,β you call out.
βTheyβre already up.β
βShut up.β
You pull the dress on.
It fits perfectly.
Of course it does.
You look at yourself for a second, adjusting it slightly, smoothing it down.
ββ¦okay,β you mutter to yourself.
Then louder, βJoe.β
βYeah?β
βCan you zip it?β
Thereβs a small pause.
Then, βYeah.β
You pull the curtain open just enough.
He steps in.
The space feels smaller with him in it.
You turn around, lifting your hair.
βCareful. Donβt rip the zip with your strong hands.β You joke.
βI wonβt.β He smiles back through the mirror.
His fingers find the zipper, light at first. Then steady as he pulls it up slowly.
You feel his hand brush your back as he finishes.
He doesnβt move away straight after, staying quiet.
You glance at him over your shoulder. βYou good?β
His eyes drop, taking you in properly now.
βYou look so beautiful baby.β
You smile slightly. βYeah you think so?β
βYeah.β
You turn to face him fully.
Thereβs barely any space between you now.
βThank you. You picked it,β you remind him.
βI know.β
βGood taste hm.β
βClearly.β He nods.
His hand finds your waist.
Slow, like heβs giving you time to stop him.
You donβt.
Your fingers drift up to his arm, then to the back of his neck without really thinking.
βYouβre staring,β you say.
βCan you blame me?β
βMmm, maybe.β
He steps a little closer.
βTurn around again,β he says.
βWhat?β
βLet me see it properly.β
You laugh softly but do it anyway, turning slowly.
You feel his hand brush lightly down your back, following the line of the zipper he just pulled up.
βYeah,β he says under his breath. βYouβre getting that.β
βI donβt even need it.β
βNo you definitely do.β
βJoeβ¦β you begin, looking up at him through the mirror.
βI wanna see you wear it again.β He reasons near your ear as his hands move up and down the fabric.
βBut-β
βBaby, you clearly like it. Let me buy it for you.β He replies.
You look back at him again, as he looks at your reflection in the mirror with his big puppy eyes you could never say no to.
βFine.β
You turn back to him.
βYouβre evil.β You utter.
He just smiles and leans in slowly.
Like heβs giving you every chance to pull away.
You donβt.
Your lips meet, soft at first, then warmer, closer.
Your fingers tighten slightly in his hair as his hand presses more firmly into your waist, pulling you in.
The curtain shifts slightly behind you, the outside noise faint but still there.
It makes it worse. Or better.
Youβre not sure.
βYouβre gonna get us caught,β you whisper against his lips.
βWorth it,β he murmurs.
You laugh softly, but you kiss him again.
Then the music cuts through the shop.
You freeze for half a second.
Then your eyes widen with a gasp.
βWaitββ
Joe barely pulls back, lips still brushing yours. βWhat?β
Your jaw drops. βYour song.β
It clicks for him a second later.
Basic being BasicΒ starts playing properly through the shop speakers.
You gasp dramatically again, grabbing his arm.
βBaby itβsβyour song is playing!β
He groans immediately, dropping his head slightly. βOh my god.β
You step back just enough to look at him properly, eyes lighting up, already mouthing the words as the intro plays.
βDonβt,β he warns.
You ignore him completely.
You start lip syncing, pointing at him like youβre putting on a full performance just for him.
βStopββ he says, laughing now, trying to grab your hands.
βNo,β you grin, dodging him slightly.Β
You keep going, dramatic, over the top, spinning slightly in the dress just to annoy him more.
He watches you for a second.
Really watches you.
And something in his expression shifts again.
βYeah?β You tease, still mouthing the lyrics. βYou like this one?β
He steps forward.
βYeah,β he says.
But heβs not looking at the performance anymore. Heβs looking at you.
You barely get through another line before his hands are back on you, pulling you in again.
βJoeββ you laugh, cutting yourself off.
βI donβt care,β he murmurs.
He kisses you again.
Like the song isnβt even playing.
You laugh into it, trying to keep lip syncing between kisses.
βYouβre missing your own song.β
βIβve heard it before.β
βThatβs notββ
He cuts you off again, lips moving from yours to your jaw this time, slower, warmer.
Your breath catches.
βOhβokay.β You mumble, completely losing your rhythm.
The music keeps playing in the background.
You try to keep going, mouthing a few words, but it falls apart when his lips trail just slightly lower, brushing your neck.
βJoeβyour songββ you say again, weaker this time.
βYeah, yeah,β he murmurs against your skin, clearly not listening.
His hand slides along your side, pulling you closer again, like he forgot where you were for a second.
You let out a small laugh, head tipping back slightly.
βYouβre soββ
He kisses your neck again.
You forget what you were saying.
The song keeps playing.
You completely give up on performing.
βOkay, wow,β you breathe, fingers tightening in his hair. βYouβre actually ignoring your own music.β
βPriorities,β he says simply.
Happy 1 year to the crux

summary: just a cute moment in the backstage of lollapalooza
warnings: suggestive, established relationship, fluff, making out
a/n: all these new content made me want to write againβ¦
You could hear the crowd chanting his name from the other side of the barricades.
βDJO! DJO! DJO!β
You leaned against one of the metal railings in the backstage corridor, arms crossed, a soft smile tugging at your lips as you listened to it echo through the humid Buenos Aires night.
You had seen him perform hundreds of times.
Tiny venues.
Secret shows.
Crowded festivals.
But this one felt different.
Maybe because it was Lollapalooza. Maybe because Argentina crowds were insane. Maybe because you had watched him rehearse this exact set in your living room for months, headphones half-on, guitar balanced on his knee while he said:
βIβm gonna come and find you.β
The stage lights finally dimmed.
Crew members rushed around with cables and equipment, and then you spotted him.
Joe appeared from the side entrance of the stage, hair damp with sweat, guitar still strapped across his chest, cheeks flushed from adrenaline.
For a second he didnβt see you.
He was still half in performance mode β smiling at the crew, thanking people, running a hand through his messy and recently blonde hair.
Then his eyes landed on you.
And everything softened.
His grin turned into something quieter. Warmer.
βHey,β he said, walking straight toward you.
You pushed yourself off the railing.
βHey, rockstar.β
He laughed under his breath, dropping the guitar to a stagehand before reaching you.
βDid you watch the whole thing?β
βFront row of the side stage,β you said. βBest seat in the house.β
He exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck.
βI swear that crowd was insane. I thought my in-ears were broken because I could hear them over the band.β
βThey were screaming every lyric,β you said. βYou realize that, right?β
Joe looked at the ground, almost shy.
βThatβsβ¦ weird to hear.β
You stepped closer, reaching up to brush a damp curl away from his forehead.
βThey love you.β
Your voice softened.
βAnd Iβm really proud of you.β
That made him look up.
For a moment the chaos of backstage faded into background noise β people walking past, carts rolling, someone shouting in Spanish across the corridor.
Joe studied your face like he was memorizing it.
βYouβve been saying that since the first show,β he murmured.
βBecause itβs always true.β
His hand slid around your waist instinctively.
The two of you had been together long enough that the touch felt automatic β natural in a way that barely needed thought.
Fans had known about your relationship for years now. It wasnβt a secret anymore.
But moments like this still felt private.
Like something that belonged only to the two of you.
βYou were amazing tonight,β you continued, thumb brushing the edge of his jaw. βSeriously. The songs? The crowd went feral.β
Joe huffed out a quiet laugh.
βFeral is the word.β
βEspecially during End of Beginning.β
βOh god,β he groaned.
You leaned closer, teasing.
βThey were screaming your name.β
He tilted his head.
βYou were screaming too.β
βThatβs different.β
βHow?β
βIβm allowed.β
Joe smiled slowly.
βAnd why is that?β
You raised an eyebrow.
βBecause I knew you before the screaming.β
He looked at you for a second longer.
Then his hand slipped lower on your waist.
The gesture was casual at first β until his fingers hooked lightly at the back pocket of your shorts.
You felt the familiar pressure of his palm resting just a little too low.
Your eyes widened.
βJoseph.β
βWhat?β
βYou know there are cameras everywhere.β
He glanced around the backstage corridor like he was considering the risk.
The area was quieter now β most people had moved toward the dressing rooms or equipment trucks.
You were standing near a stack of lighting crates, half hidden from the main walkway.
Joe looked back at you with that slightly mischievous grin he always got when he knew he was being a menace.
βI donβt see any.β
βThat doesnβt meanββ
Your sentence cut off when his hand squeezed your hip β very deliberately.
βJoe!β you whispered, trying not to laugh.
βWhat?β
βYouβre impossible.β
βYou love it.β
He leaned closer, his forehead almost touching yours.
Your voice dropped to a murmur.
βYou just performed for fifty thousand people.β
βAnd?β
βAnd maybe act like a normal person for five minutes.β
Joe tilted his head.
βDefine normal.β
Before you could answer, he kissed you.
It wasnβt dramatic.
Just a warm, lingering kiss that tasted like adrenaline and sweat and the faint sweetness of the drink heβd chugged before the set.
Your hand instinctively slid into his hair.
Joe deepened the kiss slightly, his other hand settling firmly on your waist while the first one β still very much on your backside β gave another playful squeeze.
You pulled back with a laugh.
βOh my god.β
βWhat?β
βYou are literally grabbing my ass backstage at Lollapalooza.β
He shrugged.
βYou started it.β
βI did not.β
βYou said you were proud of me.β
βThat doesnβt meanββ
He kissed you again.
This time shorter.
Just a quick, affectionate press of his lips against yours.
When you pulled apart, both of you were smiling.
βYouβre ridiculous,β you said.
Joe nodded.
βProbably.β
A distant cheer from the crowd echoed through the night again.
He glanced toward the stage.
βI still canβt believe that just happened.β
You squeezed his hand.
βGet used to it.β
Joe looked back at you.
βOnly if youβre there.β
βAlways.β
He leaned down and pressed a quick kiss to your temple.
Somewhere behind you, a camera shutter clicked.
Neither of you noticed.
Later that night the internet noticed.
Very quickly.
Within an hour, photos started circulating across social media.
Grainy backstage shots taken from the edge of the restricted area.
One picture showed Joe with his arm around your waist, smiling down at you.
Another captured the exact moment you were kissing β half hidden behind equipment cases.
And the thirdβ¦
The third photo was the one everyone was losing their minds over.
Joeβs hand very clearly gripping your butt while you laughed into his shoulder.
@indiedjo: JOE KEERY GRABBING HIS GIRLFRIENDβS ASS BACKSTAGE AT LOLLAPALOOZA ARGENTINA IβM SCREAMING

And somewhere in a Buenos Aires hotel room later that night, Joe scrolled through the posts with a quiet laugh.
βUh oh,β he said.
You looked up from the bed.
βWhat?β
He turned the phone toward you.
Your eyes widened at the photos.
βOh my god.β
Joe grinned.
βGuess they found us.β
You buried your face in your hands, laughing.
βI told you there were cameras.β
βWorth it,β he said.
You peeked at him through your fingers.
βJoe.β
βYeah?β
You smiled.
βIβm still proud of you.β
He set the phone down and leaned over to kiss you again.

For showing her support against genocide she was FIRED from Scream 7. An article states itβs because she was leaning into antisemitism by an Instagram story she posted in which she said the media is not showing both sides of Palestine and Israel. Personally I feel itβs a way for producers or the studio, whatever, to tip toe around the fact that Jenna Ortega also voiced her support for Palestine and they donβt want to fire her to continue to bring in her audience.
To say that she denounces genocide and the murders of innocent people, she was fired from a franchise that she was their lead for the last two films raking in Millions. Sick af. If Scream 7 goes forward, Iβm not watching it. I donβt care how stacked the cast is or even if Neve Campbell returns. Itβs over for them.
Theyβve killed the franchise for me. Iβm good.
Donβt come in this post talking out the side of your neck about Palestine & the genocide. Iβm pro Palestine and thatβs all that needs to be said today.
