he has a flower for you!
For anyone who doesn't know, this is from the Indy Drag Theatre where I live and these queens are SUPER talented. All of the shows are hilarious drag versions of popular movies/shows during which the audience is encouraged to interact like a drag show.
If you ever get the chance, come see a show! And obviously invite me to go with you since I live here!

What do you think about Michael not defending David on his comments as he is getting criticized by politicians and other powerful people? I hope they are okay.
If ever David needs defending, I have no doubt Michael will be there.
Being criticized by the Tories, on the other hand, is a badge of honour, and Michael didn't need David when the Tories went after him earlier this year for The Way. It's like being gummed by a toothless dog.
People are being so .... ugh about this.
"Why did he choose a black female tory to shit on"
Because if you didn't know. Kemi was the one actively gunning for trans youth in her leadership campaign.
KEMI was the one, while brianna gheys (a teenage trans girl who was BRUTALLY attacked) murderers were convicted, released an article saying trans youth shouldn't have safe spaces at school and should, BY LAW be outed to family and superiors by teachers who find out/or are confided in.
He called out kemi not because it's easier to shit on a black, cis female politition.
He called out kemi because SHE is the one who was the cause of terror and outrage of trans youth and their families. Which may I remind people, includes him and his family.
Have some links and screencaps
Conservatives would change law so trans people could be excluded from single-sex spaces, if party wins election
The equalities minister said protections for those using single sex spaces needed to be tightened.
Transgender activist and Liberal Democrat Helen Belcher criticises Kemi Badenoch's proposed changes to the Gender Equality Act.
This was at its most basic a parent challenging a right-wing politician for her ideologies that target his own children.
Badenoch is a Tory. She has privilege (and wealth) - furthermore she has real and genuine political power. She has a platform. She has the ability to drive her transphobic ideology into legislation. She is an actual danger to trans children.
And, as the prime minister said, free speech is a fundamental part of democracy. And that most definitely includes freely speaking out against politicians and policies that are harmful.
This was never a case of a wealthy privileged white man punching down at a woman of colour. That's how the tories and the terfs spun it. This is a father putting himself in front of his (and our, and your) kids.
You cannot in conscience speak from your position of authority as a politician, then claim victimhood when you are judged and challenged on what you say.
You cannot attempt to legislate people that make you feel icky out of existence then cry when someone turns the tables on you.

An end, once and for all
A cautionary tale.
The sad story of what happened to a married team of creators who lost millions - and their names - to a corporate takeover.
Hold on to those trademarks, kids.
This is lovely advice.

"Facts are facts"
Sure, but also.
TiLĀ (click to go to the thread, which probably has more interesting tidbits I missed).
Bonus:
These are my people.
Betting Iāve reblogged this before. Betting Iāll reblog it when it turns up again.
In addition to the print terminology stuff: the visual shorthand icons and ad graphics for something about writing are still often pen-nibs, fountain pens and typewritersā¦
ā¦while graphics of a monitor, keyboard and mouse remain visual shorthand for computingā¦
ā¦even though most writers now use monitor /Ā keyboard / mouse or even laptop / touchpad.
In addition, headers for āthis blog / website is about writingā are often in one of the many imitation typewriter fonts complete with smudges, or just Courier.
The start and end call icons on most / all smartphones is still the handset of a classic desk telephone, and sometimes the open-app icon is a complete phone.
The term āhang upā for āend the callā refers to something even older - one of theseā¦
And of course the Save icon is indeed a 3½ inch floppy disc.
Why it wasnāt a 5¼ floppy is a mystery. The icon version is just as distinctive.
Also, why various OP updates never changed āSaveā to the graphic of a CD / DVD or flash drive is another mystery, and nowadays a Save icon should probably be a cartoon cloud.
Graphics and terminology are funny things.
reblogging this again for EVEN MORE information.
Iām mostly entertained by the guy who thinks you need to know that ācaseā means āboxā in French as though thatās not what it means in English.
skeumorphism my beloved
Itās fascinating. This post alternately made me feel old and taught me something. Tumblr is amazing.
And because we continue to use signs of ancient hardware, youngsters come up with questions like āwhy is the icon for āsaveā a vending machine with a can of soda?ā (One day Iāll find that post and link it)
One thing that pisses me off is people seeing fish in aquariums (the establishments, not home aquariums) and being like āItās so sad because the ocean is so big and the tank is so small and theyāll never know freedom blah blah blah-ā Iām not talking about sharks and marine mammals here but the majority of fish are not at all bothered by being in an aquarium instead of the open ocean. Like, I personally would love to be a little clown fish in one of those big reef tanks. Fed regularly. Whole team of people monitoring my health and well-being. No predators. Medicated if I show signs of illness. Aquarium fish have cushy gigs in comparison to their wild companions.
I saw someone say this about a blue lobster that was wild caught and brought to an aquarium. Like dude. Itās a lobster. Theyāre solitary sedentary creatures. They live in little crevices and they donāt move from them often. They abhor other creatures. Also, this lobster is distinctly bad at being a lobster because it is bright neon blue. I donāt think heās yearning for the open sea. Heās probably yearning for his next mussel. Which is, coincidentally, the same thing heād be doing if he wasnāt in an aquarium.
Once when I worked at an aquarium in the Pacific North West a visitor stopped me to talk about how sad she was to see all these animals in tanks. (This is surprisingly common from visitors.) She mentioned the sunflower sea stars (Pycnopodia helianthoides) in particular. They were her favorite, and she used to see them all the time while diving locally and suddenly there were none, but we had them and that just didn't seem right.
We ended up having a lengthy conversation about how a disease, sea star wasting syndrome (SSWS), decimated the wild populations of that species and many sea stars a few years prior and how that aquarium was actually one of the few in the country exhibiting Pycnopodia that didn't lose their entire population to the disease. We talked about some of the research that was happening to help protect them and she started to feel a little better. She wanted to feel like it was okay for her to visit the aquarium and that she wasn't just staring at caged animals.
Pycnopodia are now listed as critically endangered. They are a keystone species in their environment and SSWS is estimated to have killed 90% of the wild population. Without them, the shores of the entire west coast have changed. Now, ten years later, that same aquarium was the first to establish a successful treatment for the disease. Before that, most aquariums had the protocol to remove symptomatic animal and generally had to euthanize them because nothing could be done. Within a matter of days, they were completely melted. Now, there is a treatment. It's not a cure, but there's hope that something can be done. That same aquarium is also part of efforts to work towards reintroducing Pycnopodia to the wild to help restore the ecosystems.
People have started to understand that zoos work in conservation and education, but aquariums do, too. We talk about the California condor and black footed ferret as success stories and Panamanian golden frogs and rhinos as works in progress, but aquariums are doing that same kind of work! There are coral conservation labs, efforts to reintroduce wild animals and remove invasives (looking at you, Florida), housing of non-releasable marine mammals, research into new medical procedures and treatments, and breeding of endangered species. The fish (and inverts!) in aquariums have an easy life, and might even be part of something so much bigger.
This is your permission to feel good about visiting reputable aquariums! Enjoy looking at the pretty, and not so pretty, fish (and inverts! please give the little sea bugs some love), and know that your admission is helping to keep them healthy and well cared for, and might even lead to something that can change the world.

"That sounds like a good idea......."-"Is there something bothering you with the idea?"-"No, the idea is GOOD.....š"
Can someone explain this to me?
Old people use quotation marks to indicate emphasis, as a substitute for italics (which many of them could not produce on the old typewriters they learned to write on), whereas young people use them to indicate sarcasm or falseness. Theyāre used as āscare quotesā.
And old people use ellipses simply to indicate a pause, or for some other incomprehensible reason Iām not aware of. But young people use ellipses to indicate passive-aggression.
So an old person could type something like:
how are things going with your āboyfriendāā¦.
and what they mean is
How are things going with your boyfriend? [Im so excited for you, sweetie, and I wanna hear about it]
But a young person would interpret that sentence as
How are things going with your so-called boyfriendā¦. [I say, while seething with contempt for him and possibly for you too]
The linguistic difference across generations is beautifully explained here thank you
