have you seen ( Harmony Hunter )? They look a lot like ( Natalie Alyn LindΒ ). The (Β 30 ) year old (Β GardenerΒ ) is so (Β Confident, Self Reliant, WittyΒ ) but I heard they can also be really (Β Jealous, Impulsive, PettyΒ ). Can you believe theyβve been in town for ( 30 yearsΒ )?! They live in the (Β The OutskirtsΒ ) neighborhood and kind of remind me of (Β Old cowboy boots, dirt stained denim, red lipstick, a loud laugh, greenhouse glassΒ ). If I was asked, Iβd guess that they were (Β Most Likely to never leaveΒ Carroll) in their yearbook for the class of (Β 2014Β ).Β Β

nico had been put in charge of replenishing the brushes at the studio, which would have been easy enough if he had actually remembered to order them. as it turned out, he was not proving to be the worldβs greatest gallery assistant. what he lacked in experience, however, he made up for in enthusiasm or at least, that was the generous way to look at it. he had eventually placed the order, but the brushes would take a few days to arrive, and elio was not exactly known for his patience when his supplies were involved. so nico had found himself at the hardware store, hoping temporary replacements would be better than showing up empty-handed and admitting defeat.
he turned when he heard a voice nearby, assuming they were talking to him, and was relieved to find that they were. βoh, really?β he asked, glancing back toward the brushes with a faint grimace. disappointing. elio definitely wouldnβt love that. at least the girl helping him was cute. βno, no tourist,β nico said with a laugh, shaking his head. βiβm nico. i work at the art gallery and iβm elioβs cousin.β he assumed she knew who that was. his smile tugged a little higher as he looked back at her. βnot a tourist either. local?β
"Yeah. Not great. Sometimes, with things like brushes, you get what your paid for." At least in her experience. Coming up beside him, eyes scanning the wall of paint brushes, her teeth worried over her bottom lip in contemplation before she finally reached up and snagged a couple of mid range horse hair brushes from the lower rungs and held them out to him before offering a hand in greeting. "It's like the opposite of a bar, all the top shelf stuff is cheap because they want you grabbing from where your eye lands. So like a bar, the best bang for your buck is right here in at the bottom." The middle eye level part of the set up housing the more expensive ones.
There wasn't really much attempt to hide the slide of her eyes over him, not the flirtation from her tone as she held out a hand in offer of a handshake. "Local, huh? Well, Nico Russo, cousin of Elio from the art gallery," That she had yet to actually step foot into. "I'm Harmony Howard. The pleasure is all yours." She teased.
Irvin smiles." Hey Harmony, what do you have for me today?" He tries his best not to let her get to him, even if he's always been a bit of a sucker for nicknames. Easiest way to get to his heart.
" Is that so? Well, aren't I lucky then." He teased lightly." You need to be careful Harmony wouldn't want all the other florist to get jealous, they might start to think that I'm special."
"I got more than enough roses in all sorts of colours. There's an fushcia one that's to die for." She gushed, smile wide with prude at the blooms they managed to pull off this year. "But wait until you see the indigo irises, oh Specs, you're gunna die. I swear it almost brought me to tears when the first ones opened up."
Coming around the counter to link an arm through one of his, Harmony have him a little though toward the door and truck past it, excited to show him. "I also have a special one just for you." Now that grin grew a little. "You just wait."
Vale was headed into The Silver Bullet because he really, really needed to get shitfaced tonight. Work had been rough. It wasn't that he'd dealt with anyone particularly rude or anything, it was just...he'd met someone who reminded Vale of himself before everything fell apart. The girl had a bright future ahead of her if she stuck with the piano, and Vale hoped she would, even if he also felt unfairly bitter about it. He hated when he got like that, especially about young talent, so Vale needed to just forget about everything for a few hours.
But as he was walking toward the bar, he saw someone trying - and failing - to start her car. He was going to ignore it - he really needed that drink - but just as he was opening the door, Vale stopped. "Fuck," he muttered under his breath, letting the door swing closed again. Instead he headed over to the car, knocking lightly on the window. "You good?" he asked, trying to smile, though it felt weird on his face. "Sounds like your car has seen better days." He said all of this through the window, and because Vale realized he was a stranger to this woman, a total unknown, he offered, "My name is Vale by the way."
The unexpected knock at her window had Harmony giving off a sharp yelp as she jumped about right out of her skin. "Oh, oh my goodness you scared the bjesus out of me." Speaking on the back of a relieved sigh, hand resting over the furiously beating heart it had flown to. Didn't help that the guy was smiling at her in a way that almost made it seem like it was painful to his face.
"Oh, um... yeah." Shaking herself back to the moment, she let her hands rise and fall back onto the steering wheel. "This old girl has been a little saucy as long as I've had her." Not that that helped her now. "You wouldn't be able to give a girl a boost would you?" For a guy who had an air about him that said 'resting bitch face' he was pretty cute at least.
He spotted sight of the old jeep, recognizing it despite its fresh paint job, and sidled over as the sounds of a sputtering engine filled the night. Jesse's arms came to rest in on her door, as Harmony sat there with her head on the steering wheel, probably cursing her life to hell and back. "Y'know, I mean it," he said then, to bring awareness to his presence, "I do kinda miss fightin' with my old girl to start." His old truck had been put into retirement for the time being, ever since Autumn got him the new one. Jesse had plans to restore it one day, though. "I'm takin' it that you need a jump."
Of course he recognized the old Jeep. If anyone would know the distinct old man cough of it's sputtering engine, it'd be him. There'd more than a few times he'd have to tow her to Uncle Chuck's garage when even a boost didn't do the job. She just refused to give it up on her, they'd been through too much the two of them. The sight of his iconic curls materializing out of the darkness of the parking lot bright a wash of relief along with him. "Damn, Jesse, you had me out here sweating. I already know Uncle Chuck isn't going to let me hear the end of it if I end up towed in there again."
Harmony had so succinctly clocked their behavior in the past several months, that Claudio sat upright once more. Embarrassed by that. Yet another person who had somehow so easily spotted their obsession with the record store owner. How long had others noticed this in them? Why had it taken so long for them to even realize it themself?
They hung their head, picking at their burger.
Not wanting to admit now, that their question had been about Asher Stone himself. But it was too late for that.
"Asher, actually," they confessed, before suddenly laughing. Reaching out to touch Harmony's arm as they quickly added, "No, don't run over him though, I'm kidding." Claude knew hers had only been a tease as well, but he wanted her to understand that Asher hadn't actually done anything wrong to warrant even a metaphorical jeep running him down.
With a deep inhale, they closed their eyes tightly and blurted quietly, "I told Asher I wanted him, and he doesn't feel the same way." Now, their dark, doe eyes looked a bit suspiciously bright as they opened back up, and shot a miserable glance Harmony's way. "He's been so sweet and understanding about it, too.. And now he's spending more and more time with Hattie, which.." Sucked. Now, they exhaled that breath, heavily. It wasn't about the feelings anymore, even. They were jealous. Jealous that Hattie was now getting more of Asher's attention, to the point where they were here on the beach, without their best friend, on the fourth of July. "I don't know what to do. I feel like I haven't seen much of him at all lately and we work together.. Like.. what if it's because of what I told him? What if he's not comfortable being around me?" What if Hattie was now becoming his best friend?
No matter the case Harmony totally got it. Not only was Asher giving them a job and a place to live, but the man was a certifiable grade A hottie and she couldn't blame Claude one bit.
She was a little surprised though when they revealed at Asher was the cause of their dour mood, blinking at Claudio in confusion. "Trouble in paradise already? You're really sure I don't need to run him over though? I will, even if it'd be a shame to lose a face like that." The teasing was mandatory to make sure that his brilliant smile returned.
Brows only rose higher toward her line of blond hair atop her forehead as she took in everything that had been spilled into her lap. "Well dang, that really is messy. First things first, he's a top of the line idiot for not liking you like that. His loss like a hundred percent. A generational fumble. Secondly second, Harriet? As in McLaughlin?" She couldn't help the little cringe she gave, adverse to most of the town's wealthier residents, the Reynolds and their supporters most of all. "She's probably rebounding from the entire Reynolds family with him. Sorry, that was mean. I just... Don't blame yourself. Everyone knows Asher has been up that girl's ass since the stone age."

He needed a distraction. His phone had gone silent. Lilith hadn't even bothered a fuck you text. Or jealousy inducing proof Grady was nothing, showing off whoever she'd ended up with after their tiff. Not a peep. And trust that he had been checking. And typing and deleting his own messages. And hovering his fingers over her name to call, on the brink of apologizing to go along with whatever she wanted just to have her back. But he was just as stubborn and his and feelings were still hurt - he hadn't been wrong in liking her.
So he needed to get his mind off of Lilith and his crush.
He headed into the greenhouse and just breathed deeply. Being among the plants, he could almost feel his mama's arms wrapping around him in the hug he so desperately needed. He started looking through the flowers, debating on what to pick for his sister's place and which to chose for his new one. "You go' a great selection here," he told the woman who came up to him and offered help in his search.
Harmony had been working all day setting out recently bloomed six pack of rooted petunias and dead heading the rest. This season was the busiest they'd had in years, Howard flowers spilling from pots and planters all over the yards of Carroll.
Pulling off her gardening gloves at the sound of the main door bell, she slid them into the pocket of the apron the bore the Howard's Greenhouses logo as she came out to play welcome wagon. To maybe the cutest tall drink of water she'd seen in a hot minute. Grin turning coy she sidled over to offer any help.
"Thanks." She accepted of his compliment with a nod. "Been family run since before my Dad's time. A lot of these blooms are unique to us. Harmony Howard," an introduction paired with a bright smile. "How can I help you?"
Everything was pretty much set for the kids to come on in for summer camp at the rink, Ash had a few staff assigned from the school to handle the admin while he, the school coach and a fee extra helping hands handle them on the ice during the day. When there's work to do it's easy to feel better, or at least forget about everything that might be weighing his heart down. The days are easy, the nights are harder to get when you lay in bed and have to surrender to your thoughts. So he kept busy as much as possible, ironic when summer should've been more of a break for him. Even as he locked up the rink for the day, he still had the face sheet in hand of the kids coming in for the first age group camp of the high schoolers.
He locked the front door of the rink, seeing Harmony still hanging around after all the work is said and done. "Huh?" He frowned slightly at the beer at first, "I didn't even say anything yet," he huffed because she knew he'd nag. And mag he will, "these better not be here once the kids show up," still he sighed and accepted the bottle, clinking glass to glass, "to summer camp season." He loved it so much too, usually would be beaming and full of joy, this year unfortunately, will be putting him to the test to put up the best front he can for the kids.
He drank it down fast, bottle down by half as Harmony continued talking. "Oh, anytime you guys are ready I guess, I'll drive over. Mom's practically on summer break too so she's excited to get her planters. I'll let her know you guys got special ones for her." She did absolutely love her garden. Ash paused as he put the papers of face sheets and camp schedules under his arms and leaned by the wall with her, because deciding to ask, "actually I was wondering if you guys have a specific flower I could ask for. Don't need it now, or anytime soon just, enquiring in advanced."
"Of course not, Because we'll have drank them." Studying him over her bottle as she took her celebratory drink, his usual enthusiasm for the camps felt dulled down to matte and it had a hint of concern painting around her features.
Sure, when all had been said and done she'd ended up closer to Claudio, but Ash was still a friend, and something about the look on his face pulled at her heartstrings. The way he inhaled half the beer in almost one go only stood to confirm.
"You okay? I mean not to pry or anything, but that chug didn't exactly day 'woo hoo' to me." The question of the specific flowers catching her a little of guard and definitely piqued her curiosity. "I guess that depends on what you're looking for. Then again, if we don't grow it, I can absolutely find it."
