There isn't much to say about Charles Payne that hasn't already been said. He was born into a life of trouble - a gift passed down from his good-for-nothing parents who cared more about their vices than raising their kids. He has siblings and half-siblings scattered to the wind thanks to his mom's promiscuous ways. (She had an atm between her legs and sex was her main form of currency when it came to her addiction.) His dad ran a biker club just outside of Carroll, but because of some strings pulled his son was afforded the luxury of their beneficial school system. He too had a slutty side, fathering more than a few illegitimate children over the years. He followed more in his father's footsteps than his mother's, mostly because she was hardly around, and joined the gang as soon as he was big enough to ride on his own. There wasn't a cop in Carroll or the surrounding areas that didn't know Charles Payne of the goons he ran with, but their reach was far and long so not a day of jail or prison did he see.
He met Sada in high school and he was smitten the first time he saw her. She was one of the few who could call and he would come running no matter the time or day. He didn't care about the rumors swirling throughout town over their partnership, he was used to the whispers already, and it was never anything serious between them; Charles, despite his affections for her, preferred to keep his options open. To this very day their beneficial arrangement stands, both professionally and personally. He now runs the local mechanic shop and supplies Sada with product and rubs elbows with the bouncer at the local bar to push the goods. (It was during an out-of-town meeting to for a new pipeline for drugs that he ran into one Bee Carson, saving her from retched husband. Charles may be a lot of things, but woman beater is not one of them.)
Charles is straight and a fucking dog who will fuck anything pretty much with a pussy. he does not care if he is a side piece, main piece, one night piece, convenient piece, just as long as he's a piece. and not at all ashamed of it. but when push comes to shove, Sada is his woman regardless of their title/officiality. she will overrule every one of his flings. It would take a very special person to take her place.

Even though his sister, Birch, was the technical youngest out of the Rose children (and his admitted favorite sibling), John-Paul was the baby out of the boys. And every bit of it showed. He was a handful his entire life. As soon as he could walk he was getting into something, so it wasn't a surprise when he started having trouble in school. Academics had never been a strong suit thanks to very frustrating dyslexia, but as he got older late nights, wild parties, and fighting soon took precedence to what little focus he had for his studies. Especially when it was clear he wasn't interested in any of the girls like the other boys in class. Thankfully his family stuck by his side even when the truth came out and not many in town wanted to scrap with all four of the Rose boys, so they let it now lie.
Despite Birch ending up with one of their brother's friends, JP had never been too happy about it being the one it had been. He'd never liked the guy. Something about him just felt off and every time he saw him touch his baby sister, his stomach turned. It had only been Birch's begging that saved his life when John-Paul first saw the bruises. So needless to say, he was hardly upset when he perished in the car accident. The only thing that had hurt at the time was seeing his sister's sorrow - having dealt with whispered rumors for years. When she decided to move to Carroll, he followed suit. He now works as a bouncer for the bar and helps Sada and Charles move their drugs though its back door.
John-Paul is homosexual and honestly, very shy, though he loves his boyfriend, Maddox very deeply. He grew up in a homophobic town and Carroll is the first place he's been in where he doesn't have to hide that part of him. Because of his romantic sheltering, he isn't very experienced in serious relationships, but he is loyal, and at times traditional, and has always expected the same out of his partners.

Vincent was born and raised in Carroll. He's never been anywhere else in his life. Not even for a vacation. And he should probably change that, but the odds of that ever happening are slim to none. He's just too afraid to actually take that step.
He grew up with a relatively normal family. As the youngest of the two Holiday children he was a bit of a momma's boy and he took her passing when he was 15 extremely hard. He rebelled quite a bit and got into more than enough trouble for the both the boys, but Jayden was always there to save him. But he's not like his big brother, despite wanting to be. He was one of the more popular kids in high school, thanks to his brother's reputation preceding him. He was only successful in sports thanks to his brother's coaching. He was constantly protected and safe, thanks to his brother. (Well, his brother and his best friend, Ryden. Those three could settle any fight they wanted. Sometimes without even throwing a punch.) His brother was more like a father than their own and without him, Vincent didn't really know what to do with himself. Since Carroll was all he knew, he just stayed after graduating. He stuck to the only thing he did know - cars. It was the single difference in interests between the two boys; Vincent often choosing to street race on the weekends instead of drinking with the rest of the lifers in town. (Although he does plenty of that now.)
He works at the mechanic shop alongside its owner, Charles Payne and the shop's dog, Rex. Hits the bar after work for a few beers before calling it a day and heading home to relax before bed just to do it all over again the next day. Same shit, different day as he always said. He wished his life was more exciting, but what else was there to do in Carroll once you've seen and done it all?
Vincent has only recently discovered his bisexuality. He experimented very limitedly in high school, but has only ever really been with women, so believed himself to be straight. His experimentation just the shit adults always talked about and meaningless. In reality, he just loves the person, no matter who they are. And currently his heart belongs to Declan. He has been single a long time and hasn't made an effort to be abstinent over the year, being promiscuous with other single women in numerous one-night stands and short flings. Cheating is a no-go for him. He would never be the reason to break-up someone's home or happiness.

The Lockmoores had about as normal a life as you could have - from the outside anyway. They put on the perfect family facade so well no ever questioned when they materialized in a new neighborhood or when they left it. Behind closed doors however the patriarch of the familial unti was a black arms dealer working for both the US government and some of their underground partners. “It’s a living,” he would reply whenever asked about it from those in the know.
And it was. A very good living, but it didn’t come without its costs. Neither of the children were ever to really form bonds with friends until adulthood when they were no longer being carted around the world for ‘dad’s work’. And their family outside of the four of them was nonexistent. Their father had long before cut ties with his and their mother had been an only child whose parents had already passed by the time she met Frank.
Oscar was first, then Emily five years later. The two of them became thick as thieves from day one. Oscar is extremely protective of his sister - sometimes to the point of secluding her from the world. He means well, but it can be a little much for Emily at times. Shortly after her birth, Millie was diagnosed with cancer and survived another year before perishing to the disease. Frank did his best to keep things the way they’d always been, but Millie was a big part of keeping the children fed, clean, and happy when he was gone.
For awhile it was just Oscar and Emily at home, but it wasn’t long until her big brother was expected to join in on the family business. He doesn’t talk about that time period of his life very often. Consider yourself lucky if he ever brings it up. Her father died a few years later during a deal gone bad, leaving Oscar and Em on their own. It was at that point that Oscar joined the military using his last tie to the black market to get in and the two of them began their own nomadic lives. Oscar was stationed all over the world - some places even a close call to those who recognized him from his days of working with his father. Even though he was technically part of the Army’s branch, he collaborated mostly with the Navy.
The bases he was sent to include but aren’t limited to Marine Rotational Force in Darwin Australia (briefly), Greece Naval Support Activity Souda Bay, Naval Air Station in Sigonella Italy, the marine Corps garrison at the Værnes Air Station in Norway, the MCAS Yuma Arizona (briefly), Quantico in Virginia. His work always involved small to solo missions, never lasting very long with his efficiency. After his discharge from the military after his last mission (a failed mission that garnered him an honorable, medical discharge) he became employed by the FBI working in their homicide division. His usual caseload consists of cold cases, but occasionally he gets a fresh one to crack. Rarely he will call upon a contact or two from his dark days working with his father if particularly stumped, something the feds push him to do more often, though he refuses.
He now resides in Carroll, CA relocated to work on cold cases in the state.
Oscar is straight and very traditional. He doesn't care who others love, just as long as they keep their hands off who's his.

Holden was never one to rock the boat. He was the eldest and was raised knowing one day he'd take over the ranch just like his old man. A legacy he took pride in. He was the shining example for his siblings much to their dismay at times and Holden took his role as eldest child seriously. He was always the one called on when one of his brothers or sisters were in a bind. He was always the one counted on to pick up where the others slacked. He was the one expected to wrangle the brood when his parents were busy or absent.
Honor roll, baseball, student council, pep rallies, he thoroughly involved himself in high school and was every bit the golden child of Carroll. And when he and Autumn started dating, the world was his for the taking. He fully expected the two of them to rule Carroll once they graduated, even going so far as to pick a ring even though his mother begged him to reconsider - their relationship hadn't been the most solid after all. But he hadn't cared. A Reynolds and a Manchester. That was what was supposed to happen.
Well, what should have happened anyway. The day he had planned to propose, Autumn took off without warning, leaving not only Holden, but the rest of Carroll in the dust. His heart was broken, but like every other disappointment in his life, he picked himself up and dusted himself off and carried on. What good would dwelling on it do? He had a life he loved in Carroll and he intended on living it. With it without her.
Now he runs the ranch with his father and spends his nights with friends, around a fire, or down at the Bullet chatting up that pretty little bartender.
Holden is straight and hasn't settled down with anyone since his heart was shattered by Autumn and Jesse's betrayal. Needless to say, he is not down with any form of cheating. He always wanted a bigish family on the ranch and is honestly fairly traditional in his values despite his current refusal to take any of his late nigh romps seriously.

Let's back up a little, yea?
If you asked Orion or Ophelia Lovelace who Beau and Blair Montgomery were, they would wholeheartedly tell you they died years ago. The truth of the matter was they had been brainwashed into joining the Starlight Oasis. And the first rule of membership was giving over your previous self to new identities, hand-chosen by the benevolent (what a fucking joke) leader. They would be reborn to the cosmos and reunited with their true spiritual beings. It was all a crock of shit for the biggest asshole in the world to fuck whoever he wanted, whenever he wanted, and have control over the people he was meant to lead.
February 29, 1996 the Lovelace family was graced with a beautiful demon of a daughter that they named Petronella. Though she will tell you she feels like being yanked from the pits of Hell, her parents always gushed how Heaven had delivered her personally to their growing family. Pet and Knox weren't the only children growing up in this community but they certainly stood out in the peace-loving, permanently high community from day one. They were mischievous, and feral, and inseparable. They had a pet rattlesnake, Noodles. Things The Starlight Oasis owned were only interesting if the leader deemed them forbidden, which is precisely why the Lovelace siblings came into possession of a VHS copy of The Fifth Element and played it on repeat, becoming fluent in the diving language of Leeloo Dallas. They only cared about those pages in books that had been ripped off. Rules only made sense if they could be broken.
Unfortunately, punishment came along with their disobedience. And Petronella especially was one of Auron's favorite subjects to redirect. All it did was deepen her hatred for the man. Her parents refused to believe he could do no wrong, and she began to hate them as well. The Oasis was going to end up killing her if she didn't get out soon. Once Knox found out about his genetic link to Auron, it was the last straw for Pet and she made sure the two of them go out and never looked back.
She suffers from hemophobic conversion disorder - her disgust for blood a result of abuse she endured at the hands of Father Auron. She is pansexual. Demiromantic. She can be a tough nut to crack, but is worth it if you have the patience. She runs the projector at Wheels Drive-in and helps out with the animals from time to time at the Reynolds' ranch.

Vera Cowen was always a quiet child. Mostly because her homelife was shit, and there wasn't a reason for her to involve anyone outside, in. She didn't have the defenses like her brother, Jesse. She was tender hearted and soft spoken and too good for a man like Ivan Cowen to raise, but his one night with Olivia Robshaw solidified her miserable existence under the man's roof. Her mother wasn't an upstanding citizen of Carroll like the rest of her family, instead she frequented the bars and picked up the one far too often at them - Ivan Cowen included. Their brief tryst the only one resulting in offspring. One he hadn't wanted and one he'd gotten stuck with after a car accident took the life of Olivia.
Lucky for him, Vera was an easy child. She was smart and picked things up quickly. She walked early. Talked early. Was in advanced classed once she started school. She was everything he wasn't, as if the universe knew she was going to have to take care of herself as soon as possible. There was a reason Matilda was her favorite movie. She always dreamed of one day being whisked away by some loving teacher to live a life of happiness. But it never happened. Instead, she got Melinda. A junkie who could give two shits about the daughter that came along with Ivan. The only good thing that ever came out of her was Jesse, Vera's younger brother. Who she loved with all her heart.
As soon as she was able, which was far from old enough, she took care of Jesse as best she could. There were lots of meals made of mac-n-cheese or spaghetti-os or whatever mystery donated meal the pantry gave them. There were loads of mornings of toast and stale, plain cheerios. But the two of them always had a meal to fill their bellies. She made sure he at least graduate high school, helping him with his homework through many an argument. She read to him, sharing all her favorite stories and taking trips to the library as soon as he could walk. But most of all she, kept Ivan off of his back as much as she could, hiding the tears and the bruises behind makeup and excuses of allergies.
Until that wasn't enough and she needed a little something more to ease the pain the deeper the contusions became. And then she needed a little something more to combat how tired the pills made her. And the days just blurred together: pills to numb the pain, graduation came and went, pills to make time go faster, ivan beat them, job after job, a drink here, a drink there. Before she knew it, she had turned into Melinda and the Cowen house had become suffocating. She had to get out, but she refused to leave Jesse behind. At eighteen though, it was hard to convince the courts to give her custody, no matter how big of a piece of shit their father was (or unbeknownst to them how hard it had been to get clean while enduring Ivan and hiding it all from Jesse). She tried. She tried until she was twenty and by then it hadn't mattered. Jesse forced her out. Told her to save herself and get out while she still could. Lied and said he'd catch up later. And just like Matilda, she'd hoped one day he'd show up at her door to live out their days together in happiness.
That day never came either. Instead, she got Scott, who she met halfway through her junior year of college. Three years after leaving home. He was charming, handsome, attentive, romantic, and everything she'd never thought she'd ever get. They dated until graduation, when he proposed, her fairytale seemingly coming true. As soon as Vera said yes however, things began to change. His metamorphosis wasn't immediate or blatant. It was slow and cunning. Manipulation hidden behind calculated care. Scott cut her off little by little until he was all she had. For the next three years anyway. Vera found herself pregnant and ecstatic to be a mother. Scott was neutral, couldn't care less about becoming a father, and his reaction to the news - more worried about having to feed another ungrateful mouth - was the first time her eyes had started opening to the kind of man he really was. Yet she held onto the hope that once he saw their daughter, because there wasn't a chance she wasn't finding out what she was having at her ultrasound appointment, that he would change his mind and fall in love with her.
He only got worse. Vera's hope hung on for another three years before she left him for good, moving her and Francis as far away from him as possible. Only it hadn't been far enough, and after three years, he found them, forcing her to move again. And another six months after that, forcing her to add a new phone number into the mix with the move and a restraining order after a violent confrontation. An order he defied four months later, tracking her down and showing up at her apartment's doorstep in the middle of the night. Vera begged him to just go and to keep quiet, that Franny was sleeping, she didn't want to wake her, just please go, they didn't have to fight, they could talk in the morning when they didn't have to whisper. But her wouldn't hear it, and she refused to let him in.
Before she knew it, he pulled a gun out and tried to force his way inside the apartment. She struggled to keep him out, her heart pounding with fear that if she died, Francis would be next. When the shot rang out, and pain shot through her side, she was sure her worst fears had been realized. It wasn't until Scott fell to the ground that she realized she had only been grazed by the shot and its discharge. She rushed inside, locked the door, called the cops, and waited in Francis' room until they showed up. That was the last time they ever had to move until recently, Vera having more than one reason to make one last move back home to Carroll.

Grady Rose came out the womb ready to go. He crawled early. He walked early. He talked early. Just about everything he did in life he took on at full speed without a second thought. Even though he may come off as some dumb hick at times, he is as smart as a whip. He graduated high school a year early and started working along side his brothers and father on the farm the very Monday after. There is hardly a beat of rest for Grady, his energy is never-ending. Not to anyone's surprise, he was the first one to leave the farm to try and find his own way. Busy as the work kept him, Grady was always meant to see the world. He was too restless for a town as small as Brantley. He started travelling when he was twenty-one, taking odd jobs here and there, and hasn't stopped since. He frequently stops in on his family along the way, choosing Brantley more often than not thanks to the rising age of his folks, but he never sticks around too long. Grady Rose is like the wind, here one day, then gone the next, never knowing where he'll end up next.

If Gus Reynolds was the apple of Bartholomew Reynolds' eye, then Dominic was its core. Even as children their father always seemed to favor the eldest son, leaving Dom to fend for himself. When the boys were old enough to be useful, the comparisons came and the constant reminders of how very much NOT GUS he was. It wasn't much longer before his precious older brother gave the Reynolds legacy its next generation, having Holden just as Dominic entered high school. Being pushed even further away, he initially resented his nephew - jealous of the new wave of love and affection Bartholomew showed his grandson. He spent more and more time away from home and more and more time among the only people who accepted him - The Beverly Slums. His drinking started soon after and he got into just as much trouble among the crowd as one would expect and even more when he was returned home.
It was no surprise that he didn't graduate and after his first DUI, Bart worked tirelessly to keep his troubled son's indiscretions quiet - Dom can only assume using his new sister-in-law's connections - and sent him off to his first stint at rehab. A thirty day facility (spa at best) in Malibu. He had only just turned twenty-one. Barely legal to even drink and already an alcoholic while Gus had a nice brood, giving birth to his third daughter shortly after Dominic left.
His sobriety lasted three years. That was when mom left. Even as an adult, it hit hard. It didn't help things that she never looked back after leaving the men in Carroll. Dominic started again. It went on another six years before he was sent off for his second stint in rehab, two DUIs and his siter-in-law's court ordered sixty-day treatment behind his brother's urging.
That patch of sobriety lasted almost as long before he found out his mother had died. At least now he didn't have to drink alone, Holden now by his side more often than not. Another ten years would pass before his nephew would come to him with the loss of his child and the deepest Dominic had ever seen him fall, and that was saying something coming from a drunk like him. A heated argument broke out between Dominic and Gus that would send him off on his third and final court-ordered stint of unsuccessful rehab - ninety days of pointless sobriety.
He immediately relapsed upon returning home and reignited the argument between the brothers - Holden the topic of discussion (because how dare he question Gus' son, since he was such a disaster). He left Carroll for good that day much to his nephew's dismay and hasn't looked back, living in North Dakota as a carpenter peacefully. Well, at least that's what he'd thought until a job sent him nearby. The annual fair was enough of a pull to pop in and see just how the family was doing after all these years.
