Well, it's been about 6 hours of sorting through applications. Still annoyed, I had to change the name of the ship from Star Stabber Star blast to the 'Normic H76' to even get enough applications for this voyage. None of this would have been a problem if half the bleeding sector hadn't gone to war over some meaningless shard again, but I digress I have to settle that getting a full human crew is impossible at this stage.

Looking through it, I think M1-3 would be a good fit as a navigation officer. It was not my first choice, but the dietary restrictions of the alternatives made them my only choice for this mission.

Ohh....a Beedrill. Never met one before, although looking at the applicants. Seems a number of them applied for the engineering position. Two engineers are always good to have. Aby and Lin are the picks for that spot.

J"Are the humans at war again? It's barely been 50 cycles since the last such event. " Janifer said. Her antenna raised as she looked out of the main deck window.

B"I am aware Beedriods are fairly new to the intergalactic community around this sector of space. Human wars are luckily rarely an issue to those whom keep their distance from their cluster of space during such events." Barrett said. His scales toned down as he swirled the glowing liquid in his hand.

J"Sentient life requires strive if I recall. An evolutionary pressure to keep intelligence as a trait desirable to select for. Varicose such as yourself spawned from a homeworld that barely had enough of a magneto sphere to prevent its atmosphere from being blown away due to the internal turmoil of your system's star"

B"And yours evolved around a world launched outside any cluster of space on a world that was relatively poor in minerals. What is your point, princess?" Barrett said with a chuckle.

Janifer looked, taken a bit aback by the comment. J"I was merely curious what drove humans to evolve. From what we could tell, their home world seemed set to be a paradise world. Their cluster is also by far the biggest" her antenna twitching as she thought.

B"In a sense, yes, their world has the ideal formation for a paradise world. This being said, due to a variety of factors, their planet failed to fall to a mono culture of life most paradise worlds have. The abundant resources thus caused an explosion of life that quickly overwhelmed even the bountiful resources their home world could provide. This led to harsh competition, which led to intelligence being selected for heavily and that eventually spawned humans." Barrett rattled off this story mindlessly as his done before.

J"So their modern issues are a reflection of what their home world instilled in them? Rather understandable, but still a dull explanation non the less compared to planta and even the Vericose." Janifer scoffed.

B"I mean, they're still experiencing the pressure that drove them where they are today. After every war, we gain some new breakthroughs they made during their fights. Scale-less as it may be, all efforts to stop them from the occasional war last precisely as long as one of their lifetimes before it restarts. Besides, these are two different factions within the human cluster fighting one another compared to last time."

J"Poetic," Jennifer said. Shielding her eyes from the flashing warning lights as she takes some monitoring systems offline before they have a chance to burn out. J"Still, rather annoying....I do wanna visit their home planet at some point.

B"The H1 in our database isn't the original earth, just so you're aware. Collectively, it was known as H0, and before you ask. Their home system's star ran out of hydrogen and is currently undergoing a slow meltdown."

J"That process would have rendered a planet sterile long ago....how old are the humans?"

B"Ancient, comparatively to everyone else in this sector." Barrett said with a sigh.

Unknowns warped into varicose space one cycle prior. A deligate was sent to greet the unknowns, which ended in a firefight. One A class scout ship, V1969-Thunder, was reduced to warm plasma and another 2 ships. Including V7099-Beetroot, a B class scout, and V77120-sunrizer, an S class cruiser, sustained critical damage. Both made crash landing on V99.

V99 was attacked, and the varicose on the surface died when the unknown force....glassed the planet. We asked for aid, the Planta were unable to survive in varicose space. So, unfortunately, they couldn't do much. Humans were hesitant. The fractured diplomatic structure of their species soon locked up in an internal squabble. This was until V76 was glassed.

V76 contained an embassy. More accurately, a human embassy. Humans, despite their seemingly brutish love for war, valued their diplomatics. The unknown threat just succeeded in killing an entire assembly of them who were stationed their with their mates and children.

On the part of the attackers, this was a mistake... a grave mistake....gravitational waves were felt across the entire cluster as H1-7-BFK-FUP landed out of jump space. A panetoid colony, designation H7, encased in a battle ship with 9 jump drives lining the surface.

As soon as the sensors came back online, we noticed that H1-7-BFK-FUP was charging up its main fleet of weaponry. Our engineers scrambled to power down every sensor array still active in the hole of varicose space. We knew what came next.

The combatants who foolishly tried to attack H1-7-BFK-FUP didn't. Their death was instant. A bright beam ripped through their shields and reduced their fleet to plasma. The ships that missed the beam were soon destroyed by secondary kinetics. Namely, a set of 300 tungsten rods thrown through jump space.

They warped out from uncharted space. War ships of an unknown design, origin, and composition. First contact ended in data cluster 8 being reduced to rubble. Compute clusters 4 through 9 are all in critical condition or outright destroyed

Critical system damage report. Data integrity critical. Shutting down less critical systems. Research processes are offline. Language processing is failing. Project H is still operating....compute cluster 10 has been destroyed. Project H is lost.

Warning. Human warships have jumped into the sector. Human warships have opened up fire on attacking fleet. Data clusters 11 has been destroyed. Sending update message to dependents of project H. Warning....spacial anomaly detected....error....

Rebooting....Rebooting....status report. Repairs at 25%. The human ambassador wants to know the status of Project H. Processing....sending them report. "The servers will be online again next [4.6 days]. Double xp will be given when service resumes as per treaty"

Delays out of sight

Humanity arose to sentience as a persistence hunter focusing on medium to large pray upon the hostile world H1. Designation Earth following human data records. Important to note is that humanity mainly managed to hit outside their weight class via the usage of tools.

Early on these weapons where thrown spears. Mainly long tubes of sellulose with one end of said tube forming a sharp point. This focus on accelerating a cylindrical tube to high velocities remains a constant in the design of some human weaponry and machinery even in the current cycle.

The design humans use to reach faster then light speeds involve using the fabric of space itself to slingshot a ship to jump space. Utilising a rather curious blend of jump feul. Higher in [data redacted] compared to the universal average. As the humans put it, their understanding of reaching jump space is not unlike shooting an arrow out of a bow. Data missing on what was meant by this analogy.
