The patrols that never return, the outposts cleaned out save for a lone survivor here and there- Week after week of torment, and she has the audacity now to claim that she isn't a danger??

Maddie just sighs again as the illager’s demeanor shifts, turning to face her, as the last anxiety and fear initially gripping him dispels. She opens her mouth to explain, hopefully deescalate whatever he's about to do, but as he shifts in his place, his eyes flicker to the stable entrance and he freezes-

The sound of an arrow whizzes by and she winces instinctively, but… feels nothing. Then the sound of another arrow-

The tension building in her since the sound of the first horn snaps. She takes care of them.

Dom is too delirious from the blood loss and anxiety combination to really register what's happening as she kneels beside him. Even through the sound of blood rushing in his ears, he hears her voice- stern but frantic. “Do not touch those arrows. Just stay still, I’m getting help-”

Her? help? A laughable notion really

Sorry I took so long to answer this! I wanted to do art and well. That never happened but this should probably be answered before this Sunday...

Honestly? I think he doesn't relax much, or rather patrolling IS his version of relaxing. He's been at it for such a long time, he's a classic case of 'guy who became his job', there isn't much more to him anymore. Not that there wouldn't have been otherwise but, that's kinda how things go if you're a dedicated pillager for so long.

There's a bit of conflicting lore about 'her kind'. Like oral tales passed down recounted and recounted over time with diverging mythologies, only written down after variations had developed and much of which seems to be speculation on the authors' parts anyway-

When Maddie first appeared, the average pillager wouldn't even connect any dots- this type of being would likely be a brand new concept to them. There are certainly old texts in the mansion libraries that the evokers have access to referencing such a figure, or sometimes several, sometimes entire societies- but no one has ever seen one, so much of it is chalked up to tall tales and myth, and a general understanding that while some person or people likely did exist like that, they’re long gone now. Many a mansion over time has ‘wasted’ plenty of effort researching down that rabbit hole looking for their answers to immortality. After a frustrating lack of progress it was kinda tossed to the side- besides, if these people were truly immortal, then where did they all go? Are they the zombies that fit some descriptions oh so well? Not so immortal then… So no sense in really ensuring it’s common knowledge among the ranks nowadays.

So it’s deeply shocking when someone who fits at least parts of the descriptions shows up then! Especially the most important part- the not staying dead bit. The mansions that learn about her are suddenly scrambling to make sense of the seemingly fractured mythologies afterwards (this will never happen sadly for them), and are absolutely SET of trying to capture her for questioning, experiments, ANYTHING to get their immortality answers.
