Lovelock in Old World Blues -  “I woke up two times during the freak circus surgery. Maybe more than two but this is all I can remember. The first time it felt like the Auto-Doc were shoving hundred of tiny wriggling mechanic spider arms through the back of my skull…the sensation was unreal. I remember opening my eyes and not knowing what the hell was happening and saying "I don’t think I want to be awake for this.“  The second time, I could hear a drill and a slight pressure behind my back as it were working on. The worst part was feeling my blood rush up inside and pour out over my sides. I can’t describe it, just - it was hot and the sound it made when it hit the floor still haunts me. I started screaming for dad, then it hit me with another dose of anaesthetic, and bonk I was out like a light. Exactly 72 hours later, I woke up drenched in shocked and sweat. I keep hearing what my father said.”
