This is just my opinion, but I honestly think I’d be okay if neither the Protector storyline nor the Storykeeper storyline returned in a major way.
If they ever wanted to acknowledge Sofia being the Protector again, I think they could simply explain that Miranda wanted Sofia to wait until she was older before taking on those responsibilities. That would be an easy way to recognize that part of her past without making it the focus of the series.

Of course, this is just speculation on my part, but I wonder if Disney looked at the ratings for season 4 compared to the earlier seasons of STF and decided that a school-focused series with friendships, family, and everyday magical adventures would connect better with the target audience. Whether or not that was the reason, I personally think it was the right direction.
That’s actually why the first three seasons of Sofia the First have always been my favorites. I loved the episodes at Royal Prep, Sofia spending time with her family, and all the friendships she built. Royal Magic really captures that same feeling for me, which is probably why I’ve been enjoying it so much.
I’m totally fine with the show mentioning that Sofia is the Protector or referencing that part of her journey from time to time. I just don’t think it needs to become her main role again. I’d much rather continue seeing her at Charmswell with her classmates, learning new magic, making friends, and growing as a person.
Again, that’s just my opinion, but I think the direction Royal Magic has taken is a big part of why the show has been so enjoyable so far!

I’m really hoping we get a few episodes in the show that focus on Sofia, Amber, and James together. 💜💛💚 I’ve always loved their sibling dynamic, and I feel like there’s still so much they could explore with the three of them. I’d also love a song featuring all three of them!
