Yu takes a deep breath. If he tells Yosuke the truth, there’s no going back… but he’s already screwed things up enough trying to handle everything on his own.
“I’ve been lying to you for a while now. All of you,” he says softly, bracing himself for Yosuke’s reaction. “After that night we almost threw Namatame into the tv, I figured out who the real killer was, and I met up with him alone.”
He forces himself to keep his gaze locked with Yosuke’s. “It’s Adachi.”
Adachi...
For a moment, Yosuke was frozen like a block of ice as they locked gazes. It all fit...Adachi had access to a lot more through the police, not to mention the ability to cover up his tracks even during an investigation. But the real question was why did Yu meet up with him and meet up alone at that? And why didn't he say anything?
"It's - It's Adachi?" Yosuke made sure to keep his voice low, not wanting anyone else to hear.
"I can work with that but why the hell did you go in alone?!" Yosuke's voice gave the faintest waver, hands balled into tight fists. If one looked close enough, they would actually see him trembling.
"Do you realize what could have happened to you...? If I lost you I-" He trailed off, shaking his head. His eyes stung but he blinked back the tears. It didn't happen. Yu was safe. He wasn't dead like Saki-Senpai. He was here and real.
"Did you not tell us because you were worried Nanako-chan would get hurt?"

God, he didn't deserve someone as kind and understanding as Yosuke. It just made him feel even shittier for not coming to him about this sooner.
"How can you say that when you don't even know what I-..." The words die in Yu's throat as he forces himself to look back up at his best friend. He wants to cry, but he manages to hold it back for now.
"...If I tell you, you have to promise not to tell anyone. Not even the other IT members. At least not until I find a way to make sure Nanako stays safe." Maybe he hadn't had enough faith in Yosuke before, but he knew he could trust him not to do anything that would endanger Nanako.
Whatever was going on, it had to be serious. Especially if Nanako was caught in the crosshairs of it. The serious look on the others face only further cemented that. It was almost enough to send a chill down his spine. Yosuke swallowed hard, nodding. If Yu wanted him to keep quiet, he would. He would take whatever it was to his grave. "You have my word...I won't tell a soul. I would never do anything to hurt you or Nanako-chan. Whatever it is, I'm here to help and support you in any way that I can." Yosuke vowed, his own expression lacking the usual teasing nature.

"I may retract my statement and the aforementioned energy drink but you have to admit it would be interesting."

Pointless little headcanon but if any of you enjoy Don't Starve/Don't Starve Together... Yosuke is a Willow main. Do with that what you will.

"Yosuke..." His heart sinks. He'd always depended on Yosuke before, so when did that stop? Why had he felt the need to confront Adachi alone instead of trusting his partner? None of this would have happened if he'd just been honest from the start.
Yu looks down, unable to meet Yosuke's gaze. He wants so badly to just tell him everything, but he's so scared.
"...I'm sorry. I know I've been a horrible friend lately," he says quietly. His fists tremble at his sides. "I... I made a mistake, and I don't think I can fix it. I don't want to get you mixed up in it too..."
There it was...He was finally getting through, even if only a little bit. That was still one step closer to finding out what was happening to the person who was quickly growing to become the most important to him. Important in a way that he couldn't quite understand yet. His heart swelled, a mixture of fondness and sadness for what Yu was shouldering on his own. What could it be? "You've never been a horrible friend...I know you've had a lot on your plate lately so I never judged you for it. Just worried. Whatever this mistake was, I won't hate on you for it. And I don't mind getting mixed up in it so long as you aren't alone. I'm not going to force you into it or anything but at least you know now I'm here to help." He replied softly, hoping the emotions could be heard in his voice and just how much he meant every word.
