According to data from the Pew Research Center, about 79% of Black Americans say they feel a responsibility to look out for other Black people. That number reflects a strong sense of shared identity and collective awareness rooted in history and lived experience.

For many, this shows up in everyday decisions. Supporting Black owned businesses, putting others on to opportunities, mentoring, or simply being mindful of how actions impact the broader community. There is a recognition that individual progress is often connected to group progress.

This mindset is also shaped by common experiences across different environments. When people feel that they are navigating similar challenges, it creates a natural pull toward unity and mutual support. That sense of responsibility becomes part of how people move through the world and relate to one another.
