Mistreating service workers is a surefire way to incur my wrath.
I live in a pretty affluent town within commuting distance of a major city. So, soccer moms abound. You know the ones. With their bratty hellspawn and âI need to speak to your supervisorâ haircuts. Anyway, I was tired one evening and it was chilly so I decided to go to Panera to get myself a sandwich and some warm soup. Their app wasnât working, so I had to order the old-fashioned way. I walk in, and I am waiting in line to order, and this woman with her two bratty sons (7-8 and 9-10) are in front of me. The kids are kind of hyper, but whatever Iâm just trying to get my food. So this woman gets up to the counter and is THE BIGGEST BITCH. Itâs like an hour before closing, so, obviously, they may be out of some items for the day. The guy behind the register (VERY POLITELY AND PROFESSIONALLY) tells her that they are out of side baguettes and asks if sheâd like to swap in another item instead. She snaps back with âUgh, Iâll have a croissant and my son will just have white bread.â So I give the cashier a sympathetic look and think what a huge bitch this woman is, and order my food.
She and her hellspawn are eating at Panera, but my order is to-go because tbh I have had enough social activity that day and just want to go home to my cats. Anyway, Iâm standing at the counter waiting for my food when she walks up with her little pager thing. Her plates are on the counter, but they are warming the bread for them. She (again, rudely) asks why her pager didnât buzz if her plates were ready. The girl preparing everything miraculously doesnât point out the obvious fact that the plates arenât ready and simply tells the woman that they are warming her breads. She does that uppity mom scoff (you know the one).
Let me preface this by saying that every single worker in this Panera was BUZZING. They were all busy. All doing something. No one is standing around doing nothing. This woman loudly proclaims that the staff here is horrible and that she wished she would have gone to the Panera in Huntersville (next town over). At this point Iâve had enough, and I just look at her and say, âLady, everyone in this restaurant wishes youâd gone somewhere else.â She just gives me that appalled uppity white lady look, but doesnât say anything. After several more rude comments to the staff, my food is ready. I walk up to the counter (like a foot away from her) and say to the people behind the counter âIâm sorry you have to deal with people like her. Iâd probably be a huge bitch too if my kids acted like that.â And just walked out.
TL;DR: If you are rude to service people in front of me, I am coming tf after you.
