I went hiking today and I’m always so shocked by how many people are barely prepared to be outside let alone on a hike. I was in a national park on a moderate trail and saw a woman hiking towards a thunderstorm completely alone, wearing ugg slippers and sweatpants and carrying nothing but an empty Gatorade bottle. A family with young kids who only had a plastic bag full of sodas and flimsy rain ponchos. So many crocs. Like obviously you don’t have to buy thousands of dollars of hiking gear but also maybe don’t just wander into the wilderness to die???? At least wear sneakers and bring a rain jacket???? And food and water????
#most of these people will be perfectly fine and I hope all of them are#but this is a hiking trail loop in the mountains with limited cell service and no bail out points#also no shelters along the trail. just you and the woods#it feels very low stakes until a singular thing goes wrong#it’s also 4 miles for the ‘easy’ part so it’s not a super short loop.#luckily there were enough other hikers around and I know most people pack spare provisions just in case#and carry first aid kits and stuff. but Jesus Christ.#mine#text post#posts about nothing for no one
