Here is a project I did for my Comic Art class about the animal-centric webcomics I grew up with! They were vital to the way I created (and still create) art and stories, and I also wanted to share some of my favorite webcomics! I think xenofic is very underrated as a whole, and I’m always an advocate for supporting indie artists.
I actually finished this a few months ago at the end of my school semester, but never got around to uploading it till now. (With the mastercard/visa stuff going on I thought this was a relevant time to post as well).
(Note, this was written to be understood by people both within and outside of the community)
The more I think about it the more I want the Warriors movie to be just like Felidae. Everyone says “Felidae is too dark to be like Warriors” or its “An amped up warriors.” Well it’s not. Felidae is the closest thing to Warriors out there.
The first arc handles Firestar and Tigerstar. In my mind Tigerstar is such a Cloudandus like character in the way he executes his motives I’m almost certain Erin Hunter based him off of Cloudandus. On the other hand Firestar is very much like Francis I how he goes about solving finding out Tigerstars plan.
Another thing that proves my point. Tigerstar’s death and just the insane amount of violence in Warriors.
They die exactly the same way.
Both are cut open from their neck to their hind legs to bleed out and die.
Also in Warriors cats shred each other, burn alive, freeze to death, die of sickness, maul, poison, drown, crush, and run each other into the road to get hit by cars. Tigarstar sends dogs that kills kits and clan mates, Brokenstar kills his father, clan kits, runs out a clan, and is then poisoned and killed by his mother.
There’s more to this that I’ll add on later but this is the first basic point,
i dont know if the erins were actually like fully influenced by felidae, but I do know that tigerstars obsession with eliminating “half clan” cats is VERY similar to claudandus killing male cats to preserve his supercat bloodline or whatever. theyre both delusional and suck.
Warning I’m spoiling a lot of warriors novellas and later arcs but
Warriors has to sneak around and dumb down a lot of topics that should not be dumbed down and need to be expanded on for a story, it sort of treats the audience like kids (because they are) and completely glosses over the fact that the cats are literally racist and in cults where once a cat was literally told to murder his son on no basis besides clairvoyance bullshittery
Felidae is able to get away with different stuff though, like sexual themes and (spoilers for the second felidae book) cannibalism
I feel like warriors would make more sense on felidaes audience level, honestly, obviously I dont want to hear about sexual themes in the warriors universe (even if the actual canon does hint at stuff sometimes, like two cats going to hunt alone together and having kits after and bluefur and oakheart “sharing a nest” the one time they meet up and bluefur being pregnant after) but as of recently it also literally touches on the topic of pedophilia and child grooming
so? I feel like theyre almost on equal footing, but warriors ends up seeming more tame in comparison because it literally presents you with EQUALLY fucked up shit, it just refuses to actually take it seriously because… its a kids book.
and the deaths arent any less gorey! so felidae is essentially in terms of gore and violence, the same as warriors, its just considered adult because of sexual themes that it could really stand without (we did not need like three pages in the first and second book describing cat sex dude)

i don’t know if this a novel idea but i rly think it would have been cool if that there was more weight to the nine lives thing by connecting it to fading starclan cats thing
like imagine how insane it would be to be given lives by your friends and family that they kept for you and gave back but in turn you will never ever even see them in your afterlife
AND this would be a cool element if the leader had a spirit guide for each life, and when they lose that life, they lose that spirit forever until their last one and they are alone. it would be so fucked up 😍
