"so what? was i supposed to let that kid suffocate to death alone and terrified?" while adrian valued their captain and highly respected them, there were certain orders he would never be able to understand. risking their lives to save others was the essence of their job. sure, it was different when the people dying were your responsability but he had accepted the fact he could die the day he enrolled in the academy. "ok, look, i get it. but i never asked anyone to follow me."

"MAYBE," her words slurred as she spoke. "i should have that glass of water. what would i do without you?" she offered him a flirtatious smile."

"we're closing in thirty minutes, pretty sure we can consider the night over." he muttered dryly while gathering some empty glasses from the bar and rinsing them off underneath the streaming faucet. despite years of experience as a bartender, he still grew uncomfortable at the sight of drunk people-they were embarrassing themselves. yet when alma was at the risk of diving face─first onto the floor, he darted forward too, attempting to grab her hand. no need. "is that common sense i hear? consider me surprised." amir had already fetched a bottle of water from the fridge behind him, presenting it in front of her. "also, do not give me that smile. it's not working." it kind of was.
