It was so cold in that house
No insulation, heat set as low as it could go
Lower gas bill that way
Window nearly frozen over at sunrise
The oranges and reds streaked into the room
Illuminating the bottles
The dumb posters
Hung up with putty and scotch tape
Mediocre 90s movie posters among them
Our breath showed
A reminder that despite it all we were there
Still
I looked at the window in that early morning
And all that remained from last night
Was the heart you’d drawn
And almost as if you knew I saw it
You drove your head deeper into my chest
And that said everything
