Guts Man was formerly a famous waste disposal robot from the Hard Ages that everyone admired and looked up to. Not only did he create (and become one of) several efficient ways to get rid of trash and make Silicon City a cleaner place, he also used the strength he gained from in battle, earning him even more praise. Unfortunately, once the Hard Ages ended, and more eco-friendly methods of waste disposal were discovered, he practically became obsolete. Even when he ate trash just to get stronger to help out around town, he was just seen as weird and gross to both humans and robots, so he stopped eating it but got weaker, leading to more ridicule as he couldn’t complete the labor that used to be so easy for him. Eventually, he finally gave up on himself and went into isolation, sleeping in the dump with the rest of the appliances that have outlived their usefulness. Once Guts Man saw that Dr. Light had an eco-friendly garbage disposal, he became hysterical, haunted by his memories of being rendered obsolete. Once he started eating again, he finally started to feel like his usual, powerful self again and wanted more, his gluttony being a direct result of his need to be and feel powerful in order to feel good about himself. He needed to be powerful so he could do anything the eco-friendly garbage disposals can do but better. He needs more power to be able to earn back his glory any way he can.
