True story : I was almost arrested by the Austrian police for painting this picture last june, making it #controvesial What happened : I found this area with a good view of the mountains over Innsbruck, appropriately just in front of the Tirol Panorama Museum. It was around 7pm and the area was almost desert. I searched for a good place to sit and paint the sunset. Only two good spots : - a little kiosk over the cliffs, which already had 5-6 people crammed in, so I disounted it for Covid reasons, or : -the empty benches outside of the closed museum café. I sat there undisturbed for about an hour, then suddenly a police car rolls up un front of me in the still desert plaza, and I hear "the restaurant is closed, you cannot be here, you must leave". I don't know if they mistook my painting supplies for hard drugs, but they did make sure i was packing everything up and leaving before they pulled away. I have been practicing gouache for a while now, and I have a huge backlog of images like this, because scanning and retouching the pictures to put them online is soo boring! It's super time consuming to make gouache look half as good as it does in reality. But yesterday I gathered my courage and treated more than 30 pictures at once. I'll be releasing them bit by bit.
