The rain had passed. A thin pink streak in the east illuminated the fire-scorched earth and shimmered like fish scales on the surface of the water. It reeked of burnt meat, sour filth, and wet wool.
After the last flooding of the Yaruga, swampy land covered in mire remained on both sides, stretching all the way to the swamps of Ysgith. Walking was difficult, especially ascending the hill. After the rain, it had become slippery, and a thin layer of fragile ice had formed from the frost. Boots sank into the mud that hadn't had time to freeze properly, and wheels slid downward, nearly dragging the horses in the tandem harness with them. The soldiers held them by the traces so they wouldn't break formation. They pushed the wagons, even though they could barely stand on their own two feet.
A portion of the Temerian army was grouping on the right flank alongside Sodden and the free condottieri. They had it easier ā they bypassed the hill almost along the edge, taking cover in the Mehun Forest to the south, which was rather sparse in that area. The night, which had not yet fully retreated, masked the soldiers quite well amidst the windthrow. It was a good thing there were hardly any deciduous trees here ā only evergreen pines.
They marched in small groups, without heavy weapons or horses. The silence pressed on their ears, but everyone remained quiet, contemplating their role in this battle. Some were coming to terms with the fact that they would not see the next morning. There was no fear. Only cold calculation and despair, which mingled with the sweat of every soldier.
Vernon Roche looked over the soldiers marching beside him. He knew most of them personally; they had drank together and fought together many times. They were battle-hardened ā not green peasants who had picked up a household axe for the first time instead of a real weapon. True soldiers had gathered here ā the backbone of all Temeria. And for Roche himself, it was an honor to be right here.
Parallel to the forest marched the main body of the Temerian army. The cavalry advanced in a wedge, keeping the heavily armored shield-bearers in the center, followed by regular foot soldiers with small shields ā and further back rode the ballistae and marched the archers. There were several such wedges, but Roche could no longer see how things were further back. The army was boundless, like a swarm that blanketed the entire earth.
Before the edge of the woods, the commander gave the order to halt. Jan Natalis ā still quite young but already an experienced general ā raised his hand, and others repeated the gesture so the command would reach everyone behind them. The man himself was rather short, with a sparse blond beard that had grown out during the campaign. He hid his baldness under a hounskull helmet, to which a metal gorget was attached instead of standard chainmail, protecting his neck and throat. The visor of the helmet was flipped up so that Jan could better see what was happening around him.
I ignored the world for several days, played through The Witcher trilogy, and finally sat down to write the sequel to my enormous story about the life of Vernon Roche (and more). And how difficult it is to describe the Battle of Sodden Hillā¦

Yes, I watch Eurovision and I don't hide it. And damn, I don't care who wins this year, but my heartthrobs -LAVINA, I've already listened to everything on their channel. I really like the singer's voice, and he himself is so nice and sweet. I hope they do great after the contest. I want to see their new releases.

Currently Watching: Not a damn thing. I've got two things I'm supposed to be watching (because of Harrison Ford), but it truly takes me a LONG time to watch things for the past decade or so, especially TV Shows/Series.

Current Obsession: I don't think I have anyā¦ I sort of like/love something once and it's pretty locked into my DNA/Soulā¦ forever. š¤£
Currently Reading: I haven't picked up a book sinceā¦ I was probably 18 years old, to be honest. Never been much of a reader of books, but does proof reading your own fan fanfiction before you post it count? Because if soā¦ then that's been it, aside from random articles about current news in the world and everything else, really.
Currently working on: Lots of things. Lifestyle/health stuff to better my new health issues. Trying to keep on track with my handmade work (I'm into Fiber Arts). Also trying to stick to recording/creating a YouTube series I started with my favorite video game of 26 years.

Life has put a mental debuff on me, so I did absolutely nothing for two weeks to avoid a nervous breakdown. And now, I don't know how to start creating again because everything feels pointless.
My sister asked me yesterday if I was finishing my fanfic. But I did it better. I created characters in The Sims 4 and am bringing them together there.

I think the most unexpected thing that happened was that she was saved just when she'd given up hope of being saved. And in general, she's surprised when people actually act kindly, and not like jerks. and thanks for the questionā¤ļø
