it's absolutely frustrating to see that for many people, the main point of contention with the internet archive lawsuit is that they personally do not feel like what the internet archive did in 2020 was copyright infringement. it literally does not matter if what the internet archive did was copyright infringement, because copyright is a blight on society and largely exists in service of whatever corporate entities can afford to "own" concepts or ideas. the art world suffers from people interacting with art within this framework. I don't understand how you can be someone who claims to hate corporate slop but endorse the right for branding to exist.

I don't know the case that you are discussing, but copyright has inherent value in our society. If there were no copyright protections for artists, it would actually be easier for corporations to cheat artists out of pay. Creators would not be able to make livable incomes if copyright didn't exist. You say that the art world suffers due to the existence of copyright, but there would be no art without it. Copyright is not purely branding, rather it gives creators the legal protections to make sure that they are able to profit off of their own works and do not have their works stolen by others, therefore helping small artists

i'm literally in school for copyright law. It really isn't that hard to file for copyright and the benefits of having it vastly outweigh the detriments. Signing bad contracts where you lose your ownership over your own material is your fault, not the law's. Copyright lawsuits are expensive but the way that the law works is that if you can prove someone stole your work, they have to pay for your lawyers. Literally how does that not benefit small artists??
