REMINDER: If you think Ryan is forgivable...

We’re all problematic.

We’ve all been toxic.

We’ve all made stupid mistakes.

But the thing that makes you the internet’s “unproblematic mom” is that you readily own up to your mistakes and that can’t be said for a LOT of people. A LOT. The majority of history’s most important figures couldn’t stand to own up to shit. People whom the masses admire. And you are an important figure in today’s world, but unlike so many others you hold yourself accountable all the time. We know you aren’t perfect – but you’re modest and compassionate and that’s worth a lot. Taking down your old videos cannot be an act of cowardice if you are simultaneously addressing them and specifically the parts that may have hurt people, AND APOLOGIZING PROFUSELY FOR IT.

You aren’t that person anymore. And we can tell because you’re willing to look her in the eye and tell her she’s wrong. It isn’t everyday that we hear a woman admit to internalized-misogyny. That’s a(n unfortunately) incredible stepping stone!

In terms of affiliating yourself with questionable people, we all do it. Constantly. The real problem would be if you endorsed their greatness and innocence after harmful actions come to light, which I don’t remember and cannot imagine you doing. Take it from someone who has superficially trusted people until they ended up in jail for assault. We all want to believe the best in everyone. That, in and of itself, does not make you a bad person. It makes you a regular person.

I think we can all understand needing to wipe the slate clean, to rid yourself of reminders of a painful past. So do what you need to do. And if that means taking a break, we’ll wait patiently until you feel it’s time to return. And if that means leaving Youtube altogether, we’ll miss our internet mom forever, but we’ll also support whatever you think is best for YOU.

We love you, Jenna. Truly. And this is coming from someone who has an extreme aversion to loyalty (as weird as that sounds). I wouldn’t have said any of this if I didn’t genuinely believe it. We love you. We see you for the complex person you are. And we’ll respect whatever choice you make.
