:3 oh my goodness thank u so much!! I went scrounging for photos to kind of explain!

So I started with the digital piece, and then made a template of that. And then edited that down to account for how many tiles I wanted.

I opted for a simpler grid template due to size/time constraints but you get the gist! I rolled out tiles with my studio's slab roller they are almost 5x5 each.

They were then compressed, edges smoothed. I also went in very lightly over the paper with a wooden tool to press the design into clay leaving a small impression which would make the line art easier. Then it was off to the kiln for the bisque!

Using a technique called Cuerda seca, I lay down all my linework. The mix I used was eyeballed red iron oxide wash and wax resist. This causes the glaze to pull away from anything lined, and causes it to fire a darker more visible line.

With the lines down I was just applying glaze! I am using a variety of coloured majolica glazes as the base layer to essentially "colour block" and then going in over top of that with bentonite stain pastes to apply shading as an overglaze! This allows me to get a really dynamic colour palette while only mixing up 3-4 glazes!

This is what it looks like before going into the final firing! And then after!! Majolica is super shiny so unfortunately a bit hard to photograph, but if I can get some more shots of it fired I might also make prints of this!! The reception on this piece has been really lovely so far 🥺
