Okay, that's that done. Hello! My name's Grizzle, or Mayfly! I'm a wolf and I make art! My main blog is @oughtful.
I'm a self-taught digital artist. I draw a lot of animals and animal-like mythical creatures, with one of my long-time favourites being dragons! That said, I love branching out from my comfort zone too... I play around with different styles and subjects a lot.
I'm proudly alterhuman! A lot of my art is related to this, or to the communities I'm part of as a therian, otherkin, plural and daemian. Some of my art is also related to my original fiction ideas or OCs. ^u^
All my art is always SFW! (I'm aroace and sex-repulsed so you can be sure of that ahah)

I like to make resources for other folks to use - one of my big projects at the moment is free animal ref bases! I have a wolf base which is available to use already. My current WIP base is gulonids (marten, wolverine and relatives)! Once that's done I'll be expanding the wolf base. ^^

Figured out some things in my last attempt at digital painting and applied them immediately... learning is fun :0 Makes me want to bang my head against the wall sometimes, but still fun
(I've now switched back to working on lined stuff, so the guloninae base is underway! Sadly I can't work on it as often as I'd like cause of chronic migraines aghh)
Art tip: finding human ref images that look like real people...
... Rather than models or stock images!
This was a big, big hurdle for me when I decided I wanted to learn how to draw people
The thing is, I didn't want to draw only people who align with western beauty standards - I wanted to draw all kinds of people. And I want them to feel like diverse, everyday kinds of people, y'know? Rather than having a bunch of OCs that are basically supermodels (get enough of that from TV and film, bleh).
But finding candid photos of random people is pretty hard by conventional routes, especially if you want to draw fat people, children or elderly folks, or people of colour.
However! I did find a very fun solution!
Enter: Wikimedia commons (my beloved)
Wikimedia Commons has creative commons photos of damn near everything. I've often used it for animal reference photos, but that's pretty intuitive - you can hop straight from the Wikipedia page to the Wikimedia Commons page for that species, and there you go.
Finding human reference images is a little harder, but it's more fun imo!
What I personally do is search for something specific where there's likely to be photos of crowds. For example, you could search for the name of a specific city, or a type of event (I have a great time scrolling through the results for pride parade!!)
Then you can scroll through the results and grab any images which appeal!
It's a great way to find candid photos of real, diverse people. And also it's honestly lovely just to browse through and see what pictures people have taken and decided to share.
What I do from that point is grab a few different images to use as inspiration, but I don't copy anyone 1:1 (that would feel a bit weird for me ahah).
The point isn't "turn this random pedestrian into an OC", just that I now have some images of actual people going about their lives that I can use as inspiration when drawing my characters.
I figure I'm not the only one who's run into this hurdle of wanting to get into drawing people but not knowing where to get reference images!! So I hope this can be helpful. ^u^

Since I love doing linework, I always wanted to try my hand at making complex colouring pages. I've made a few attempts in the past but never got very far. But this latest try is going really well and I'm planning to stick with it!
I would love to make a set of these featuring some of the cool and unique wildlife native to Scotland's coastlines.
The UK government doesn't take very good care of our oceans, despite Scotland's west coast having some of the most naturally vibrant and nutrient-rich oceans anywhere outside of the tropics. It's a unique and vitally important wild habitat that needs better protection.
My ultimate goal with this project would be to create a small book of these designs which can help raise awareness of the issues facing Scotland's coastal ecosystems, and raise money for charities that work to protect them. <3
There's so many cool species to choose from, but I started with the recognisable Atlantic puffin! The next design (if I can keep my focus) will be basking sharks. From there, I'm not entirely decided yet but I would love to do something with white-tailed sea eagles, and a design featuring our beautiful kelp forests!
I didn't do much digital art for a while cause my PC broke... and also I maybe slightly burned out a little bit '^^
But I'm enjoying this!! The noodlebeasts...
Sketches for some different marten species for ref base purposes. I am,, considering expanding my plans for the mustelid ref base a little bit... I was going to just do the Euro pine marten but the temptation to do some other species variants was too strong!! It's really fun figuring out all the species unique traits.
Species here are Euro pine marten, American marten, and yellow-throated marten. Will also be adding a fisher!

I'm considering making a pack of colourable, realistic wolf markings that folks could optionally use to help colour the base. Wolf markings are complex and honestly pretty difficult to get right, but I've drawn a lot of wolves in my time and have a bit of experience there. xD

Bonus rough OC design!
Ni-ti-li-pip, or Pip for short, (it/its) is a magical carder bee and the player character for a chill educational video game idea I have. (I am not a game developer. I don't know how to make a video game. No, I will not let that stop me).
I put together this pic to showcase some of the different features available. Most of them are quite subtle, so you'll have to see for yourself!
The file currently includes a summer and winter coat base, four ear variants, four snout variants, and a variety of facial expression options. All head features are available on the headshot as well as the fullbody, and all features are compatible with both the summer and winter bases, so you can mix and match!
There's also two sets of text boxes, two palette options, and some public domain photograph backgrounds to pick from.
I'd like to expand it further in future, but I'll be taking a breather first. It's been a lot of work making this! Worth it though, I think. ^^

You may not use this base for profit, advertisement, or commissions without my clear, written permission. You may not use any generative AI tools at all in relation to this base. Making really good progress on this, and had some new ideas which may or may not pan out - we'll see!
Here's the winter version!
All the variants of base, ears, tail, and snout are on their own layers and interchangeable! So you could make, for example, a summer base wolf with the winter fluffy tail.
Added some more ear variants in as well! Here's the current set! In order: summer, winter, arctic, and mexican wolf. ^^
Next up for expansion is the snout options!
Current plan is to add some more snouts, and then start working on a front view of the face (with all the different facial features available, ofc)!
Once that's done, I'll publish version 1! I'd still like to build on this beyond that though. First follow-up addition I'd like to add is body variants based on the Indian wolf and arctic wolf.
One last thing you might notice: the eyes are finished! I even made some expression variations for the eye, pupil and mouth. You can create some fun combos!
