she was standing by his berth, smiling down at him. her brown curls fell across her shoulders. her warm brown eyes were bright with amusement.

"wh--what's going on?" he asked. "are we there?"

like imagine a little 13 year old will solace shivering and covered in blood and he’s kept it together so far but he just can’t anymore and mr d is the first adult he finds and he’s just trembling before him bc he doesn’t know what to do with himself and mr d just can’t leave him. he can see in will’s eyes that if he doesn’t help him he’ll break forever . so… cause i was always astounded at how will seems … relatively okay even though he wouldn’t seen so much carnage and been responsible for healing so many kids….. so……. it makes sense to me.

i think it would feel like, for will, like all of his most gruesome memories from that time are like. wrapped in a layer of gauze. he remembers it but they aren’t so vivid, he can make out the shape of them but not every detail. there’s a buffer

like his brain already processed the pain and grief and horror before he could feel it emotionally. idk if that makes sense. but like he obviously can still be upset and riddled with grief and miss his siblings but it’s as if his brain won’t let him experience the full horror yk?

they’re like if percy never went home during the year from camp to stay living with sally as he got older. it’s so genuinely fascinating to think about what it must do to a mother and son bond to love each other a lot but have completely seperate lives since will was at least 10

both him and her mentioning that “she has her life and he has his” is so insane to me like it’s been like that since he was younger than percy at the start of tlt, they don’t see each other often, they don’t everything about each others lives it’s just. IDK. makes me ponder……..
