Summary: When the Lion makes a short list of the alphas who he thinks could hunt him down and doesn't include Sanguinius, Sanguinius decides to issue him a challenge.
Sipping from the rosewine, Jaghatai raised a brow at Sanguinius. “Well, brother,” he said with a sigh, “it seems the Lion thinks even another omega could do what you can’t.”
The Lion smiled at Jaghatai’s teasing, but a rustle of wings beating the air caught his attention. When he looked back at his other brother, his survival instincts immediately pulled him straight in his chair, muscles and sinews tightening like the strings of the Chogorian lutes still playing lively tunes around them. Sanguinius's expression was alight with wrath and his wings unfurled wide behind him, now very clearly meant to impose. The astartes sitting at the heads of the tables closest to them instinctively ducked their heads as if someone had grabbed the backs of their necks and pressed them down towards their plates, moved despite the fact that most of them were alphas themselves. Even the Lion felt the burning force of Sanguinius's aura.
“You are very sure of yourself, Lion,” he said, a warning in his tone. The reddish hue of his hair had now spread to his eyes as well. “You should hope you won't be tested, lest you may have to eat your words.”
Though his first instinct seeing Sanguinius angry was to attempt to calm him, fond of him as he was, his pride could not abide the suggestion that he was a braggart.
“I don't fear any alpha trying to best me,” he answered.
