Today in Gion Kobu: Misedashi of Maiko Katsuemi from the Odamoto Okiya!

Gion Kobu’s Misedashi race is not stopping yet! Katsuemi’s is Gion Kobu’s tenth Misedashi up until now, and there are already two more set for the next two weeks and not even half of the year has passed yet! A big district like Gion Kobu or Miyagawacho might have 10 Misedashi in an entire year, but even that is rare!

Katsuemi is also the third Maiko from Odamoto to debut this year, after Kazsuharu in January and Katsumomo in February, and thus, Odamoto has four Maiko now, which is average for such a big okiya like them. It’s good to see that Odamoto has been so successful, with two Geiko having their Erikae last year and at least three Misedashi this year.

Katsuemi is also the first imouto of young Geiko Katsue, who had her Erikae just last year in May and became independent just 6 months afterwards, which is very impressive! The fact that her and her sister Katsuhina are taking up imouto so early is a great sign as to them wanting to stay in Gion Kobu for longer.

Katsuemi means “Beautiful Laugh”, which seems to be very fitting, because Katsuemi has already been noted for her very cute, enchanting laugh. It will help her a lot as a Maiko!
