Microform: multi-media performance for film and sound

Tete a Tete Media talks-Film Festival. August 2, 2012

Sackville Music Hall, Sackville, New Brunswick

I was asked to compose a soundtrack specifically for this screening and to perform it live in front of the audience. The festival took place in a beautiful and now very derelict turn of the century music hall.

I wanted this composition to represent the four classical elements (earth, water, air, fire). To do this, I used the following sound sources: a short-wave radio, water, sandpaper, glass, slide whistle, hand drums, and a small synth. Some sounds were pre-looped and others were played live on the spot. For the performance, these sources were filtered and blended in real time as the film rolled.

this audio clip is an test run early on in the creation process. Still evaluating sounds and structures.
