Human beings are a part of the whole, called by us the universe, a part limited in time and space. We experience ourselves, our thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest—a kind of optical delusion of our consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our own personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.

Beer + climbing + friends + autumn = very happy Calder.
The tiny town of Rovana; quietly nestled in the dry high-desert of the Eastern Sierras, just north of Bishop, Ca. One of my favorite places I visited while living there. It was built in the early 50's, and had it's own high school with a football team, that the whole town turned out to watch on Fridays. Seeing it in this decade, it's rundown, quiet, dirty, and ghostly. But isn't that awesome? #california #rovana #easternsierras #bishop (at U.S. Highway 395)
They call me Cheese Danish. Got to play rock guide for a couple buddies today out at Auburn Quarry and show em how to get grizzly on some chossy walls. Hoorah! @william.grubb @b_personius #rockclimbing

I HAVE FINALLY MET ANOTHER CALDER!!! His middle name is also Calder! And he's cool too! Sweeeeet!!
I know some people are allergic to fur but why does this cat have to be so sweaty
Definitely the hardest -and coldest- sport climbs I had ever attempted. Short, steep, and thin!! "Atomic Gecko" .12b at Pine Creek Canyon, outside Bishop, CA. Brings new meaning to the term "sandbagged".

my favorite thing about winter ever
Solar energy that doesn’t block the view
A team of researchers at Michigan State University has developed a new type of solar concentrator that when placed over a window creates solar energy while allowing people to actually see through the window. It is called a transparent luminescent solar concentrator and can be used on buildings, cell phones and any other device that has a clear surface. And, according to Richard Lunt of MSU’s College of Engineering, the key word is “transparent.”
