I just saw an Ateez clip where the english subtitles translated the caption "๋นํฉ" as "shook" and I fucking flew from how funny the translation is omg
like that's literally such a good translation of the word considering that it doesn't have a proper english equivalent that expresses the same level of nuance
I need all kpop variety translators to translate ๋นํฉ as shook from now on

Korean Swear Words
if you're a frequent k-drama watcher, then you probably know a thing or two about swearing in Korean. but it actually goes so much deeper than what is popularly known on the internet so here is a list of the more common Korean swears! obviously, this is just for funsies and you probably shouldn't be going around saying these words to people.
๋ฐ๋ณด (babo) - dummy, idiot, stupid
๋ฑ์ (deungshin) - dumbass
๋ณ์ (byeongshin) - literally translates to "diseased body (็ ่บซ)", and has a similar connotation to the English r-slur (but is very rarely used in that way)
์จ๋ฐ (shibal) - fuck, comes from archaic verb ์นํ๋ค shibhada (to have sex)
์๋ผ (saekki) - literally means "animal offspring" but is used as a swear in certain circumstances, it's also used affectionately when mothers refer to their children. you might hear a Korean mom say something like, "๋ด ์๋ผ~~" (nae saekki) which literally means "my babyyyy" in English.
๊ฐ___ (gae___) - literally means "dog" but is used in front of other swear words to increase the severity and offensiveness
eg. ๊ฐ์๋ผ (gae saekki) - son of a bitch
eg. ๊ฐ์จ๋ฐ (gae shibal) - FUUUUCCCCCK
๋ฅ์ณ (dakchyeo) - shut up
๊บผ์ ธ (ggeo-jyeo) - fuck off
๋์ง๋ค (dwejida) - to die and go to hell
๋/๋ (nom/nyeon) - bastard/bitch, can also have other words in front of it to describe the person
eg. ๋ฏธ์น๋/๋ (michin nom/nyeon) - crazy bastard/bitch
eg. ์ ๋/๋ (shyang nom/nyeon) - fucking bastard/bitch
์ง๋ (jiral) - speaking nonsense/spouting bullshit
๋๋ผ์ด (ttorai) - a freak
์ฟ ๋จน์ด (yeot meogeo) - literally means "eat yeot" (a traditional Korean confectionary), it basically means "fuck you", "eat shit", etc
์ ์ฅ (jenjang) - interjection such as saying shit! fuck! damn it!
์ข (jot) - dick
๋ณด์ง (boji) - pussy
์ด๋ (chonnom) - country bumpkin
One-Page Masterlist
์๋ ํ์ธ์! Hey everyone! I recently got an ask about my old masterlist, which is the same as my broken-down masterlist except it has all of my lessons on one page, rather than on multiple separate posts. Some may find this expanded version easier to navigate, so Iโll keep this up for yโall! My broken-up masterlist, of course, will still be available for those who find that more helpful :)

In Korean, we say โ๊ฝ๊ธธ๋ง ๊ฑท์ (kkotgilman geotja)โ which literally translates to โLetโs only walk on the flowery pathโ to wish other people โGood luckโ, that theyโll only walk on a path full of happiness and success along with all the flowery stuffs and I think thatโs really heartwarming.

Duolingo Sucks, Now What?: A Guide
Now that the quality of Duolingo has fallen (even more) due to AI and people are more willing to make the jump here are just some alternative apps and what languages they have:
"I just want an identical experience to DL"
Busuu (Languages: Spanish, Japanese, French, English, German, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Arabic, Korean)
"I want a good audio-based app"
Language Transfer (Languages: French, Swahili, Italian, Greek, German, Turkish, Arabic, Spanish, English for Spanish Speakers)
"I want a good audio-based app and money's no object"
Pimsleur (Literally so many languages)
Glossika (Also a lot of languages, but minority languages are free)
*anecdote: I borrowed my brother's Japanese Pimsleur CD as a kid and I still remember how to say the weather is nice over a decade later. You can find the CDs at libraries and "other" places I'm sure.
"I have a pretty neat library card"
Mango (Languages: So many and the endangered/Indigenous courses are free even if you don't have a library that has a partnership with Mango)
Transparent Language: (Languages: THE MOST! Also the one that has the widest variety of African languages! Perhaps the most diverse in ESL and learning a foreign language not in English)
"I want SRS flashcards and have an android"
AnkiDroid: (Theoretically all languages, pre-made decks can be found easily)
"I want SRS flashcards and I have an iphone"
AnkiApp: It's almost as good as AnkiDroid and free compared to the official Anki app for iphone
"I don't mind ads and just want to learn Korean"
lingory
"I want an app made for Mandarin that's BETTER than DL and has multiple languages to learn Mandarin in"
ChineseSkill (You can use their older version of the course for free)
"I don't like any of these apps you mentioned already, give me one more"
Bunpo: (Languages: Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Korean, and Mandarin)
me shoving more information i think is super useful and interesting onto my main blog sorrryyyyyy not sorryyyyyy--
โGhosts are realโ I can see how you could believe that
โGhosts arenโt realโ itโs very fair and rational that you believe that
โGhosts arenโt real anymoreโ Iโm about to hear a poem or very sad story
โGhosts arenโt real yetโ the fuck are you going to do

my dearest sunflower~
Hiiiiiii again, thanks for responding the last question about the languages that you speak. If you do not mind me making another question, what is your favourite art technique? I have read that you use models in case the anatomy is hard.
my fave would be~~ chromatic aberration!
it's super subtle, but the after effects is really nice. ^v^~
oh yes, and the subtle blur around the edges & the sharpen on the characters. :D
