When it comes to organic personal care products, deciphering 'organic' can be tricky. It’s about to get clearer than a tube of organic waterproof mascara.

1   When the Dell Reconnect program was preparing to exhibit at South by Southwest — a popular music, film and interactive conference and festival held every year in Austin, Texas — they wanted to come up with a good way to showcase just how easy and important it can be to reuse or recycle computers. The solution? A retro game arcade. Chances are, if you were an adult attending SXSW, you grew up with some kind of old-school game, be it Pong or Donkey Kong. So Dell Reconnect turned to Goodwill Industries of Central Texas, which is a founding partner of the Dell Reconnect program, to turn computers dropped off for recycling into a vintage arcade machine. Mondays in Memphis with The Baker Team

Sometimes Mondays are crazy busy and stressful and you just need to take an ice cream break!  That is what Mary and I's Monday was like so we went to La Michoacana Paletas Y Ice Cream on Germantown Pkwy in Cordova.  If you have never been, you need to check them out.  Their ice cream is homemade and some of the creamiest ice cream I have ever tasted.  They also make Ice Popsicles with great flavors like Pineapple with Chile!  They have 5 locations in Memphis and MS with the one of Summer Ave being the first and most popular.  The service was friendly, the restaurant was clean, and we had some delicious ice cream!

Mondays in Memphis with The Baker Team

This week The Baker Team decided to visit the Fire Museum of Memphis at 118 Adams Ave.  Turns out that they are closed for renovations but some of the super nice firemen that we met gave us a small tour of the bottom floor and told us about the museum and renovations.  One of the interesting things that we learned is that the museum does not only exist to honor the fire fighters, past and present, of Memphis, but its largest mission is to promote education of fire safety to the children of the area!  Wonderful!  Current exciting news for the Fire Museum of Memphis is the Grand Opening of a new exhibit, "Honoring Our Heroes," on September 11, 2014 at 8:45am.  They will be unveiling a 14'X9' American flag made of tiles and honoring the nearly 403 first responders that lost their lives at the World Trade Center on 9-11.  This exhibit opened in Central Park, NYC on the 10th anniversary of 9-11, has traveled the country, and will now be housed at the Fire Museum of Memphis.  What an honor!  For more details on the Fire Museum and the Grand Opening of the "Honoring Our Heroes" exhibit go to http://www.firemuseum.com/ .  I hope to see you all at 8:45am on 9-11 at the museum!

Mondays in Memphis with The Baker Team

Mary was out of town today so this Monday, I decided to visit one of my favorite places in Memphis, the Shelby Farms Greenline!  I love to ride my bike on the Greenline!  This is an urban trail that connects Midtown to Shelby Farms Park.   It is great exercise and it clears my head.  I love to check the water to see how many turtles I can see as I ride by!  There are markers all along the Greenline so that you know how far you have gone (and how far you have to get back hahaha).  The view is beautiful as you can see from the pictures so, if you have never been on the Greenline, go today!  Take a walk, ride a bike, or run, but get out there and enjoy!

Mondays in Memphis with The Baker Team

Today, we decided to visit the Best Main Street in America!  The Main Street in Collierville, TN was just voted the Best Main Street in America by Parade Magazine!  This precious square has so much history!  We happened to run into EDCO Title and Escrows very own Dee Dee Mizell who is also on the Main Street Board of Directors .  Dee Dee gave us a tour of the square and took us to lunch at The Silver Caboose that still has the original soda fountain ( SO cute)!  There is an old stage coach rest stop that was restored and moved to the square that is darling.  There is a bed inside that has ropes across the bed frame and Dee Dee explained to us that the saying, "Sleep Tight" came from tightening those ropes!  Very neat!  There are so many cute shops, restaurants and businesses in this square that it is very easy to spend a day there!  They have Sunset on the Square Summer Concert Series and on Fridays, there is live Bluegrass music played in the gazebo!  The next big event that they will have is the Downtown Derby Party to help raise money for the ongoing preservation of Main Street.  There will be live music, live and silent auctions and tastings from local restaurants.  From what I hear, it is a GREAT event!  For more information on this event and the absolute awesomeness of the Collierville Main Street, go to http://mainstreetcollierville.org/ .  This main street is a must visit!
