Kolkata Metro Gets Green Signal for Driverless Trains on Green Line After CRS Approval
Kolkata is set to join India's growing list of cities with driverless metro services as the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) has approved operations on the East-West Metro (Green Line) following successful safety inspections and trial runs. The automated trains will operate between Howrah Maidan and Salt Lake Sector V, powered by advanced Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology. The approval also covers the iconic 520-meter underwater tunnel beneath the Hooghly River, where test runs were completed successfully. Once officially launched, the new service is expected to offer safer, smarter, and more efficient travel for millions of daily commuters.
