Dear Liam, You probably find it strange that I am writing this letter to you... But I suck at goodbyes and this was the best I could do for now... It's not permanent, though. You will still get to see more of me if you wish. My husband, Matt, and I are moving out of Beacon Hills, all the way to Portland. For many reasons, the main being that we need a fresh start, and this is the best way of doing it. But I will not bore you with the details of my reasons to move out, I will just say why I am writing this letter. You have a lot of potential to be a powerful werewolf. How you choose to use that power, either to orotect or harm, is up to you. But I know you are good at heart, despeite your trouble with controling your anger, you are the kind of young man that would rather die before he hurt someone. So do not let anyone currupt you, don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. You can do anything you put your mind to, of this I am sure. Your first inpression of me was that I wasn't that bad. But then the second time we met, I unknowingly destroyed the little trust you had in me, and I sincerily wish I hadn't. I pushed your buttons the wrong way, and I can never word how much I regret that. I know we didn't have the chance to get to know each other better, but I wish I did. You are the kind of friend anyone needs in their life. Scott will take good care of you, and he will teach you all you need. That man is the epitome of righteousnous. He has never killed a soul, and does everything in his power not to hurt anyone, no matter what. So follow his lead, and you will live a life void of regrets. I hope you don't get yourself into much trouble while I am gone. But if you do, don't hesitate in looking for me. You have to keep this secret, but I would never turn you in to the hunters, I would help you in your times of need. So keep that in mind if you ever need a friend who won't judge you. Matt rolled his eyes again. “All right, all right. I’ll admit that. Do you want to have some beer with your sad letters? A massage? Blow job? Or do you just want to get them over with?”

“A cold beer and a massage sounds great while I’m writing them, thanks babe.” He kissed Matt, lingering against his lips, as if he was secretly trying to postpone the inevitable. Eventually, though, he made his way to the table, and resumed writing the letters. Now and then, he would have to stop to rest his hand and his emotions, which were starting to be heavy. When he would be done with the letters, all the ties keeping him in Beacon Hills would be loose and he could leave.

A new life awaited him. A fresh start with his marriage, the chance at true happiness, at a bliss he had only experienced momentarily. In Portland there was no Kate Argent shooting at the people ion their reception. There was no Peter Hale threatening their lives and mental sanity. There was no one who knew what Matt had done, and there was no corpse Lysander had helped hide.There was only Matt, and the pets, and happiness.

“Asshole.” But Matt laughed, because it would be expensive to fix the car, plus the fact that an accident bad enough might kill Jack and Silla. “And I always worry about you,” he replied, running his hands up Lysander’s sides. “Always. So you be careful too, okay?”

Lysander snorted and pressed a quick kiss on Matt’s lips. “You seem to forget your husband is the careful one in this relationship. I promise I’ll be careful, darling.”

Matt rolled his eyes with a smile on his face. “I jumped off an overpass and survived, babe. But yeah, yeah, I’ll be careful. I promise.” He pulled Lysander to the couch and brought him down to sit on his lap.

“Oh, I’m not worried about you, I’m worried how expensive it would be if you wrecked the car.” He stated playfully, as he sat on Matt’s lap, and kissed his forehead. “You know it doesn’t matter how invincible you think you are, I will always worry about you...” He wrapped his arms around Matt’s neck, focusing his eyes on his husband’s.

Matt nodded. “Yeah, that’ll be plenty of time for that. And I won’t waste any time, I’ll drive it all at once if I have to. Although I’d get tired. Portland is kind of in the north.” Kind of in the north…it was literally almost Washington. He smiled. “I’ll miss you too. Every second. But then we won’t have to be apart anymore.”

Lysander shook his head. “No, I’d rather you get there a few hours later than risk having an accident because you were driving while too tired. Promise me you’ll take breaks and rest properly, baby...”

“That sounds amazing,” he said quietly. But he didn’t do much else, he just wrapped his arms around Lysander and hugged him close. And stood there. For a good couple of minutes. “I can’t come until next week,” he said finally. “I put in a two weeks’ notice and I should really wait for the whole two weeks. Think you can handle it by yourself?”

Lysander tilted his head pensively as he wrapped his arms around Matt as well. “A wek? That gives me just enough time to find a place and settle in, have it ready for when you come, so sure, I’m ok with that.” He smiled softly, and kissed Matt’s forehead. “I’ll miss you, though...”

Matt chuckled and nodded. It was good logic. He didn’t want to transport two dogs AND a cat AND a lizard at once, along with all his things. “Okay, do you want to take Lassie and Mittens, and I bring Jack and Silla later on?” He ran his fingers through Lysander’s hair and kissed him back, just as gently. “I love you too, baby. And this is…this is going to be tough but I know it’ll be good for us. Moving. Getting away from all this shit.” He pressed their foreheads together. “I promise I won’t burn the city down before I leave. I won’t get into trouble.”

Lysander nodded at the suggestion. “Sounds good to me.” He sighed as he had his forehead pressed against Matt’s. “Yes, it will be good for us.” He chuckled. “I know you won’t burn the town down, but if you did... Well, one more reason for us to leave.” He winked, and puled away gently. “I think I’ll spend one last night cuddling up to you in our old bed, though, how does that sound?”

Matt returned home from work, having given his two weeks’ notice about a week ago. He wasn’t sure how long these goodbyes would take but he knew they needed to leave, and soon. All that was left now was…Paul, Jackson, and Raleigh. Everyone else would be an easy goodbye, compared to them. Especially Jackson. (Although he wasn’t sure how any of them could be worse than Wyatt. That had hurt so damn bad.)

When he got in the house, Lysander greeted him…and he’d been crying. “Jesus, Lysander, what—” But he was cut off with an explanation. Writing letters? Wasn’t he going to say goodbye like Matt?

Lysander was being very tactile right now, and Matt could tell this was tough for him. He’d said goodbye to Raleigh first and now the rest were too hard. A part of Matt wanted to tell him to suck it up, that Raleigh’s goodbye being difficult was his own fault, but of course he couldn’t say that. So he listened, and stroked Lysander’s back and neck, and then he kissed him on the nose. “That’s okay, my love,” he mumbled. “You do what you need to do. If you go ahead earlier, you can set up an apartment, too. Make sure they take animals.” He smiled at the mention of Jai. “I miss that old guy, as weird as it sounds. You go ahead and write your letters, baby. Are you going to take the pets with you, or am I taking them?”

Lysander nodded. “Yeah, I can do that. I think it’s best if we take half the pets each with us, so it’s easier to transport them. You don’t want to have all of them in one car at once, do you?” Lysander made theatrically horrified face at the thought, and then chuckled. “I’ve written most of the letters, and I’ve packed, just need to send them in the mail, and I am good to go. I’ll stay the night at my grandparents’, and use it as... sort of a base of operations, you know, to find a place for us.” He smiled, and kissed Matt softly. “I love you.”

Lysander had finished packing when Matt got home. He headed to the living room, and kissed Matt slowly, his hands wrapped around his husband’s waist. It was clear he had been crying, and there was still a stray tear running down his cheek. “Hey...” His voice cracked and he cleared his throat as he wiped his tear. “Don’t worry, I’m fine, I was just writing goodbye letters...”

Lysander pressed his forehead against Matt’s. “I talked to Raleigh... Told him I was going to leave and I... I can’t do that again... I can’t... I’m sending letters to the people I am leaving behind. I thought I could but...” He ran a hand through Matt’s hair. “Listen I need... I need to go earlier. I have packed I just... I’m afriad that if I stay any longer than necessary, I will try to find reasons to stay, will try to go to Raleigh and... He was so hurt, Matty...” He closed his eyes and shook his head. “I think he hates me, now... And I want to go to him so badly. To tell him I will stay for him, but I can’t, Matty, I can’t because I can’t have both of you, and I chose you, and I always will, but if I go to Raleigh, I know I will ruin my chance with you...”

He pointed at the table where there were a couple of envelopes. “I’ll send them through the mail. I got a letter from Jai today, so it gave me the idea...” He smiled weakly.

There is not a lot I can tell you...

Matt and I decided to move out of Beacon Hills. To find a better place to live, a fresh start.

I know you don’t agree with out marriage. And I know you think Matt doesn’t deserve me, and that I deserve much better than Matt...

But you also know what it’s like to love someone, despite all the wrong they have done, sometimes you can’t help but just love them, and all teh little things about them. How they are gentle with you when you know they could easily be ruthless. How they are kind when they could easily harm you. How they kiss you when they could easily rip your throat out.

Most people might not support your relationship with Peter. And I admit, Peter is not the person I like the most in this world, but I support you, and your relationship with him. It might not mean much to say this just as I leave... But hopefully it makes you feel a little better that, whenever someone criticizes your relationship with Peter, there is still at least one person out there who supports you.

I hope you find your way to happiness, if it is with Peter or not, it’s up to you to decide. But I hope you do find it...

Because I also know you don’t thinks so, but you deserve to be happy. You’ve had enough shit bad things happen to you in your life.

The katana is going to be a pain in the ass to pass through customs, so I need to drive all the way to Portland, but I could never leave it behind... Matthew and I are going to move out of Beacon Hills. This town has many bad memories, and we need a fresh start. You, however, were definitely one of the good memories.

I know this is sudden, and I should say goodbye face to face... But It’s not a permanent goodbye, of course. And I don’t... I don’t like goodbyes. I don’t want tears, I don’t want people to try to convince me to stay for their sake... I know you wouldn’t. I know you would support me. You are, after all, one of my closest and oldest friends in Beacon Hills.

I hope you visit us often. I know Matt and you don’t always see eye to eye - seems to be some sort of trend - but we would always welcome you at our place. And we will still visit Beacon Hills.

I guess I just wanted to say... Thank you for being there. For training me when Jai couldn’t, and even after he left. You gave me one of the most precious immaterial gifts I could ask for - the ability to defend myself and my friends, and thus gave me confidence in myself.

Dear Lysander, I know I haven’t talk to you much since I left and I apologize about that. I have indulged myself in the life I decided to have so much that I have forgotten about my family (Yes, I’m talking about you). Anyway, if you wonder where I have been? I have been all over the place. I decided to go back into the hunting wagon and met some old mates that I used to work with and got jobs. I have been hunting mainly, hunting creatures that are even rarely known to the world. It all kind of stopped when a mission got too dangerous in Germany. My wounds were fatal and in order to gain some hours I hid at a farm. The owners found me a day later. It was two boys, one who is nineteen years old and the other ten. Their parents had died not so long ago so it was just then running the farm with their grandmother, who is rather very old. The oldest reminded me a lot like you. He was blond, and naïve. They treated my wounds and let me stay for a few days. However, a few days then became weeks and now I have been here for months. I have helped them out run the farm. I have taken care of the boys. I suppose I have a weakness: parentless boys. Anyway, I like it here. I left because I wanted to know what I wanted and I think these boys are helping me out with that. I’m not sure when I’ll leave them. It took me years to leave you, so I’m sure this might be the same. When I do though, I plan on visiting you and your mother. I miss you both a lot and maybe this time I’ll have a serious conversation I owe your mother, but enough about that. Tell me about you. Write me back. I miss you son. I hope you are doing well. Lysander held the letter with shaky hands as he read it. He missed Jai more than he wanted to admit. but there was a smile on his face, a fond smile.

Dear Pops,

I was beginning to worry that you might have been killed on a hunt. But I am glad that you are alright and in good health. I wish to meet the family that helped you and thank them in my behalf for having saved your life.

So much happened since you left... But if you decide to visit, you won’t find me in Beacon Hills. I met a young man... Raleigh. I fell for him. He was wild, and dangerous, but with me always gentle always respectful. He didn’t treat me like I was breakable, and that made me feel strong... Alas, my feelings for Matt are still present. This whole situation has strained my relationship with Matt...

So, Matthew and I want to have a fresh start, and we are making plans to soon move to Portland, Oregon. However, you are always welcome to come visit my mother. I am going to leave a lot behind - not nearly as much as Matt - but there are just too many bad memories in this town for our own good. We need somewhere new... Matt and I have worked our issues, and we are on our way to happiness, but as long as we are in Beacon Hills... There is no way we can be happy.

And that is not the only thing that will make your jaw drop... Nasir is dating Peter Hale. Yes. That Peter Hale. Hating Kate brought Peter and I into common grounds. I don’t call him a friend, of course, but I don’t consider him an enemy any longer. I don’t want to leave anything unfinished before I leave, so I tried to reach out to Nasir, to befriend him again, in the hopes we could repair the friendship we once had.

Mother misses you a lot. I do too. Make sure to finally make a move, Jai! I sometimes catch her staring at the picture I have of you and I in my bedside table. I gave it to her a few days ago, and she got emotional. She doesn’t want me to leave, but she supports me in my decision. But I am sure she will feel lonely, and will appreciate the company of a friend, even if only for a few days...

I will write back to you, and I hope you keep me updated.

He closed his eyes, praying Raleigh wouldn’t decide to kill him right then, and that he would be too shocked by Lysander’s nerve and boldness to react right before Lysander could get out. “I love you… And I’m sorry.” And with those words, he walked to the door, and out of the house, because Lysander was not going to let Raleigh have it his way this time. He was not going to allow this goodbye to be sour, because despite all, Raleigh was still one of Lysander’s closest friends.

Raleigh swallowed hard. The skin of his cheek burned like fire where Lysander had kissed him. He didn’t turn to watch as the other walked away—couldn’t bring himself to. Wasn’t strong enough for it. Raleigh Moreau, apex predator, ruthless killer, couldn’t bring himself to watch a man walk out of his life. It was only when he was certain that Lysander was out of sight that he turned and closed the door behind him before leaning against it and sinking to the floor. Had never felt more alone than he did in that very moment. He lifted his knees and rested his elbows on top of them, pressing the heels of his palms into his eyes. And then the tears came.

Their relationship had come full circle, but Raleigh knew that no matter how hurt he was, no matter how much he might have wanted to, there was no way he would be able to bring himself to harm Lysander. But there was no way Lysander would get the benefit of a cordial goodbye, not after wounding him so gravely. “Don’t tempt me,” was all he could offer as a murmur, coupled with a guttural growl.

Several moments of silence ensued. “I understand,” Raleigh announced finally, icily. The eye of the storm—a very temporary lapse in the wolf’s maelstrom of emotion, although it was without a doubt that the worst was yet to come. He flicked the fingers of his right hand outward, sending the blood from his hand spattering at the other’s feet. There would come a time when the hurt would pass, maybe. Not today. Not tomorrow. Probably not within the next week or month, but some day he would be ready to forgive Lysander. The feeling of betrayal would subside eventually. But for now, the hurt was too great a burden, and so— “Now I said get out.”

Tears. Angry tears had welled in Raleigh Moreau’s eyes for the first time since he’d chosen to leave his old life behind. “Get…” he spoke slowly, barely above a whisper, his tone quivering and sinister, raw with emotion. Claws dug into the palms of his hands, a last-ditch effort to try and keep him in touch with control. The quiet tap tap tap of blood falling from his knuckles onto the floor punctuated the silence. “….out.” He was being irrational probably, but he couldn’t help it. The hurt was too grave. This was karma. This had to have been karma for all the people he’d manipulated in the past.

Suddenly, he exploded. Raleigh reached out and grabbed a candle—it was the closest thing within reach—and sent it careening into the floor at Lysander’s feet. Glass went flying. Wax and blood from Raleigh’s hand marred the floor. It was as though all the progress he had made with Lysander was suddenly for naught, like in that moment, he had returned to the way he had been before meeting him, before getting close to him. “Fuck you, Lysander,” he spat, thick with venom. “Fuck you! I don’t—” Raleigh’s demeanor faltered momentarily and his voice broke, threatening to break and give way to the sadness. Defense mechanism. He was obviously trying to make himself appear ten times bigger than he actually felt. “Get out. Leave. I don’t want to see you again. I don’t ever want to see you again, and if I do, swear to God, I’ll—”

Lysander felt his heart rising up to his throat when Raleigh told him to leave. He saw the blood, and he almost couldn’t resist the instinct of crowding Raleigh’s personal space to check if he was alright. But then Raleigh tossed something at him. There was glass on the floor. Lysander tensed. He narrowed his eyes, as Raleigh threatened him. “You will what? Kill me?” He hissed out, then opened his arms. “Maul me? Or convince someone else to do it for you?” He was reacting defensively, towards someone he never thought he would have to. But he was aware that Raleigh was stronger than him, and that Lysander wasn’t as good at fighting as most people in Beacon Hills. If Raleigh did really want to kill him, Lysander was a dead man walking.

“I’m-” He paused, having regretted his last words. “I understand if you don’t want me in your life. But I can’t guarantee you you won’t see me again. Like I said, I will still visit Beacon Hills. This is still my home.” Lysander closed his eyes and swallowed. “And I don’t want us to part like this, Raleigh, please... I don’t want to argue with you... Not with you...” His voice was pleading. “I’m not asking you not to be mad, I’m not asking you not to be hurt... I’m just asking you to please understand... I have to do this. For me, for my marriage...”

“You’re leaving.”

The numbness that had initially protected Raleigh wore off very suddenly.

It left him feeling as though he had been punched in the gut and completely winded, with a maelstrom of emotion that he had no idea how to handle, that felt to be completely beyond his control. It was reminiscent of when he had first been bitten, during the build up to his first transformation, how helpless he’d felt, how far out of his control everything had felt. Raleigh couldn’t control his emotions, and they were running rampant.

"I trusted you,” Raleigh spat accusingly, baring his teeth at Lysander and furling his hands into fists. Like an agitated bull, he breathed noisily through his nose. There was really no point in even trying to compose himself, it was already too late for that. “Don’t fucking come near me. I gave you everything I had. I opened up to you. You let me—” A frustrated noise. His ability to put his thoughts into words had been compromised. “You let me care about you. You let me fucking—-fall in love with you. I trusted you, and you’re just leaving.” He had raised his voice at some point, wasn’t entirely sure when. Couldn’t even see straight at the moment, too blinded by the notion that he had been betrayed, that he was being abandoned by the one person he had let himself care for.

Lysander bit his lower lip, allowing Raleigh to express his feelings. It wasn’t easy for him to hurt Raleigh, of course, but he didn’t tell him that. Because that might just make it harder for him to move on. If he hated Lysander for this, then maybe it would be easier for the both of them to move on from the feelings they had for each other. “I am sorry, I really am. I wish I didn’t let you fall for me. I wish I had just pushed you away instead of letting you in. I wish I had stayed in my place instead of letting you care about me... It would make things easier, but I was blinded by...” He shook his head. “I was blinded by my own feelings, and I let it go too far.”

He could tell Raleigh was angry now. More than anything he was angry at Lysander. And he deserved the werwolf’s hatred. After all, Lysander and Matt had been the first people that he cared about for years. Lysander more than Matt, which made this goodbye even worse. “I’m still going to visit Beacon Hills now and then... And I still would want to fight for our friendship, but as long as we have feelings for each other we can’t.” Lysander shook his head. “We can’t be together, Raleigh. When I’m with you, I want to giv eyou everything I have, but I can’t. And it’s not fair to tie you down to something like that, it’s not fair to nurture your feelings for me when I know there is someone else out there that can give themselves to you... It would be selfish of me to keep you hanging, to not allow you to find the person that’s right for you, that will not hesitate to give everything to you, that will put you before anyone else...”
