Because polls get the most engagement I’m making a poll lol

TIL that in 2003, there was a movement in America to rename the “French” part of French Fries, French Toast, etc, to “Freedom” (Freedom Fries, etc) after France refused to support the Iraqi war - Demonstrators even included government officials in Congress.

At the time, I was teaching la langue française in a conservative area. One of my more assholish students tried to make a thing of it, so I said “yes indeed I am a freedom teacher, would you like to hear about the Déclaration des Droits de l'Homme et du Citoyen?”

Holy shit. The idea that there are people young enough to not only not remember this but not know about it boggles my mind.
